ABSTRACT Cystic hygroma (CH) is the most frequently seen fetal neck mass on the first-trimester ultrasound (US). Overall prognosis is poor with a high association with chromosomal and structural anomalies. When diagnosed prenatally, fetal karyotyping and detailed US evaluation should be offered. Prenatal and postnatal surgical or nonsurgical treatment options are available. Fetal goiter (FG) and fetal thyroid masses are rare fetal conditions and may occur as part of a hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, or euthyroid state. This thesis undertakes a comparative analysis of quality control practices in Japan and Australia in the 1980s and the 1990s. The methodology employed consists of two main components. The first is a comparative analysis of the literature in Japanese and in English, to highlight the differences in the interpretation of quality management systems. The second is the analysis, through extensive interviews, of five case studies (including Japanese firms in Japan, Japanese subsidiaries in Australia and Australian firms) to identify the differences in actual practice in the two countries. Abstract Hypoxia is a common characteristic of solid tumors, typically resulting from abnormal and inefficient tumor vasculature that fails to meet the high oxygen demands of rapidly dividing tumor cells. While healthy tissues generally maintain oxygen levels around 5%, most tumors exhibit median oxygen levels below 1%, a condition known to cause radioresistance. This observation has led to efforts to reverse tumor hypoxia or, alternatively, to exploit the hypoxic environment to ensure selective cytotoxicity of drugs, particularly in the context of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC)

Abstract:
Cervical spine loads are complex, with different head and neck movements producing different spine loading conditions. Imagine performing a chin tuck, (this simple action predominantly utilizes mostly upper cervical segments), or stretching out your neck to look down over something (this action requires the utilization of lower level cervical segments). The effect in both cases is neck flexion, but cervical spine loads may vary greatly. With a trend towards increasing fidelity and in vivo applicability of in vitro simulations [1], this study aimed to provide a novel biomechanical assessment of

Abstract:
In order to provide high-quality radiation therapy at the National Cancer Center of Belarus, a group of medical physicists developed the first local protocol in Belarus for radiotherapy treatment planning of head and neck tumors patients. The protocol contains grounded practice-oriented recommendations based on the long-term clinical experience of qualified medical physicists in treating patients with head and neck tumors for irradiation using modern linear accelerators.

Abstract:
In-vivo measurement of loads and displacements in the head and neck is very difficult. Musculoskeletal biomechanical models are useful tools for investigating biomechanical phenomena in this system, but they require several assumptions and simplifications regarding tissue mechanical properties and intervertebral kinematics (IVK). In particular, IVK show considerable variation among subjects [1], and quantifying the influence of this variation on model estimates is important for the application of models toward understanding neck biomechanical function. Variation in IVK parameters may affect mo

Abstract:
This study examines the evolution of mechanisms for conflict management since 1998, and their effectiveness in preventing conflict escalation during the general elections of 2003. The study draws on extensive field research carried out by CDRI researchers on the 1998 and 2003 elections, and on the practical experience of conflict management gained by staff of CDRI’s Centre for Peace and Development which, through its Committee for Conflict Prevention in Cambodian Elections, hosted a four year programme of meetings between election organisers and representatives of political and civil society.
