Abstract:
Two species of Cenomanocarcinus (Cenomanocarcinidae) from the late Albian and Turonian of Spain are reported herein, increasing the number of Iberian Cenomanocarcinus species. Likewise, Necrocarcinus woodwardii (Necrocarcinidae) is reported for the first time in the Iberian Peninsula and constitutes the southernmost record for the species. As well, the features of the posterior margin of the cenomanocarcinids Cenomanocarcinus and Hasaracancer, are reviewed and clarified.

Abstract:
Identification and utilization of proxy characters in extant families has been accomplished with success for fossil members of the Calappidae, Hepatidae, Necrocarcinidae, Matutidae, and Hexapodidae. The fossil and extant Raninidae have been revised using primarily hard-part morphology preserved in the fossil record although formal designation of “proxy characters” has not occurred. Hard-part characters can also be used to differentiate among members of the Atelecyclidae and the Cheiragonidae. Thus, the method of using proxy characters is demonstrably suitable for application to a difficult gro

Abstract:
The Callapoid family Necrocarcinidae Förster, 1968, was a successful group of crabs distributed worldwide and ranging in age from the Early Cretaceous to the Oligocene. Included taxa appear to have preferred littoral to sublittoral environments (e.g., Fraaye, 1994), have crawled closely appressed to the bottom and/or to have sheltered in muddy bottoms (Bishop and Williams, 1991), and probably were adapted to temperate to tropical climatic settings (Schweitzer and Feldmann, 2000). This lifestyle is similar to that of extant calappids. Before the present study only two calappids were known from

Abstract:
Brachyuran decapods (crabs) are rarely preserved in coastal environments and have not been documented in close association with dinosaur fossils. A crab referable to the Necrocarcinidae Förster, 1968, is here described from the Cenomanian Bahariya Formation, Bahariya Oasis, Egypt. The occurrence of a crab in a mangrove setting in association with terrestrial vertebrates is extremely unusual in the fossil record. Review of decapod occurrences from the region has resulted in placement of Portunus sp. of Roger (1946) within the Raninidae de Haan, 1839, and Lophoraninella cretacea (Dames, 1886) in

Analysis of dorsal carapace characters of fossil and extant genera of the Calappidae sensu lato supports Bellwood's (1996) assignment of the group into four families based upon phylogenetic analysis, which was also supported by previous larval and morphologic studies. The Calappidae sensu stricto, Matutidae, and Hepatidae, recognized by Bell wood (1996), embrace both fossil and extant genera. The Orithyiidae is known from a single extant genus. Additionally, the Necrocarcininae Förster, known only from extinct genera, is elevated to family status. New taxa includeMursia aspinaandEriosachila ro
