Abstract:
Traditional methods for teaching negotiation have required both instructor and student to be physically present in the same location. With the advent of the Internet and associated technological advances, however, instructors may now transcend geographical barriers and effectively deliver the same content virtually. In this article, we present an exploratory study comparing two masters-level negotiation courses: one taught using a traditional in-person method and the other taught online. Results showed no significant difference in knowledge acquisition as quantified by objective measures, including mean grades. In addition, self-report data indicate that, although students' skill and mastery of negotiation improved in both courses, online students reported that they experienced less interaction and social engagement with their classmates and instructor. Several course development strategies and best practices are discussed.

This paper discovers the link between corruption and general government deficits in European countries. A short review of concepts such as agency theory and principal-agent problem is made. After introducing a simple model of corruption-deficit relationship, the correlation is tested by regression analysis for years 2003-2009. Besides the year 2008 (the first year of financial crisis) are the results significant on the 5% confidence level. The regression of means is significant on 1% confidence level. The deficits are statistical significantly correlated with the level of perceived corruption.

Sánchez, Valdez Carlos Eduardo, Rivasplata Sergio Alvaro Mavila, and Chira Alonso Prado. "Caso Nexo Lubricantes." Master's thesis, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2018. http://tesis.pucp.edu.pe/repositorio/handle/123456789/12656.

Full text
Abstract:
Nexo Lubricantes case describes the problem faced by the company from the perspective of Carlos, the "new" General Manager, in the context of his first year. Nexo Lubricantes (Nexo) was a subsidiary of Primax (Grupo Romero) created in 2011 to be Shell's lubricant macro-distributor in Peru. The Shell brand decided to close its direct lubricant business operations in Peru in 2010 and delegate this responsibility to Nexo. The Shell brand was the number one lubricants brand in the world based on its technological leadership derived from a large investment in research and development, working together with the main OEMs and an important investment in marketing. This global leadership had a long tradition in Peru where the brand had managed to be the leading brand with over 30% market share; It was a brand recognized by consumers and industrial customers with a Premium positioning. It had national distribution, a professional commercial team with well structured processes, consistent investment in marketing over time, mainly concentrated in the channel, and a complete technical service. Under these conditions, Nexo received the duty to represent the brand in the country. For its part, the Romero Group offered financial strength, investment capacity, knowledge of the country and a network of service stations that was an interesting channel to sell lubricants. The results for Nexo were worrying, from 2011 to 2016, every year, sales volume had fallen consistently, losing market share; and in the last year, reducing its margin. This situation could not continue because the board of Nexo and Shell, expected sustainable growth and maintain the leadership in the market. Carlos believed that the loss of competitiveness was mainly due to high prices, derived from a succession of cost increases that Shell had transferred to Nexo. He also recognized that business processes and sales discipline had declined as time passed and the team rotated. The market grew moderately as lubricants were a mature industry; Growth was driven by the increase in the automotive park and sectors of the economy such as mining, fishing and construction. The competitive context was intense; In the B2B, Mobil was the most important competitor of Shell and it kept operating in the country directly, with a local production plant, which gave it a shorter and more efficient value chain and this was reflected in the market with a aggressive offer in prices and a full-level technical service. Castrol brand was the other classic competitor of Shell, focused on the B2C market; this brand was also in an indirect model and had lost market share due to its high prices. To compete in the B2C market, they had entered a group of new brands known as "new entrants", these brands were growing significantly based on aggressive prices, good margin for the channel and a portfolio of quality products similar to premium brands. How to recover the lost competitiveness? This case can be applied in postgraduate leadership and strategy courses. The objective is to introduce students to a real dilemma to solve, analyzing the internal and external key factors that determine the results of the business and through this analysis, identify opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses. Then the students can propose commercial strategies to solve the problem.
Tesis

Abstract:
The thesis is mainly focused on the analysis and evaluation of the effects influencing the sex ratio of live births. After studying of the foreign language literature, main factors influencing the sex ratio are defined. Data used in the thesis (births by the sex) are retrieved from The Human Mortality Database, database of United Nations Statistics Division and from particular statistical offices. Based on the results of the exploratory data analysis, countries with unreliable data (data skewed due to the manipulation or due to the not appropriate standard of the registration of born) are specified. Subsequently, the countries with abnormal values of the sex ratio at birth resulting from the cultural traditions or technological development are defined. For countries with not evident influence of the factors mentioned the analysis of the relations and dependencies between sex ratio at birth and variables chosen (groups of the geographical, socioeconomics and demographical impacts). On the basis of this analysis it has been proved that the sex ratio at birth depends primarily, but not exclusively, on the total fertility rate and life expectancy.

My analysis started in a children?s daily at school and how they noticed the play value od dominant society. Our propouse is think about the linking between ideology, representations and gender like the children?s knowledge in the school activities. The toy, an instrument which is noticed and exist in the funny activities, is full of cultural concepts of male and female parts. Your color, lines, functions and the way you manipulate is driven of gender cathegories. In the scool, the ideological concepts have it?s important way which is to domesticate the feelings, the desires; categorize and normalize them without be known by the educational employers. In the children?s education, the funny time is noticed by others ways and turned as important as others subjects. By the way it?s not noticed by the school, like another thing which isn?t a funny moment. And it?s exactly here in the school funny time, the school did your cultural power of separete the gender and your extencions, feed by the society, generaly, in favor of the man whose woman is your subordinate. This ways of analysis help the society and the school universe about the funny time e how they are important in the Man made life. And how the toys bring the concepts and addicted thinking, ideological which put the power in the stages, without equal, addicted feelings around the gender concepts. Abstract:

Abstract:
Coal is regarded as important fuel because of its stable supply and low price, but coal is blamed for its CO2 emission. Japanese utilities are making efforts to improve thermal efficiency and to expand biomass co-firing. On the other hand, CCS technologies are under development as a countermeasure for global warming and demonstration projects planned in several power stations are announced in world wide. As CO2 capture from power station requires huge in-house power, thermal efficiency is deteriorated. To make a breakthrough, NEDO started a project to develop the high-efficiency oxy-fuel IGCC system. This system recirculates gas turbine exhaust gas to both gasifier and gas turbine combustor. Recirculated exhaust gas is used both to feed pulverized coal to gasifier and to dilute syngas in gas turbine combustor. The target efficiency is 42% at HHV basis, equivalent to state of the art coal-fired power station. Various studies were done to confirm the concept of this system and to develop fundamental technologies necessary for the system since 2008 to 2014 as NEDO project. Based on the achievements, the project made another step since 2015 as a five-year joint NEDO project with MHI and MHPS. This paper introduces the latest status of this project executed by CRIEPI by referring several related papers.

Abstract:
The storage of liquid CO2 at an ocean floor, one of promising measures to mitigate the global warming, requires 3500 m depth for the gravitationally stable storage, a breakthrough technology and a reasonable cost to realize, although it has large advantages such as the sequestration term longer than 2000 years. However CO2 can be sent to the ocean floor by shallow release, if we can use the nature that the cold CO2 to be shipped by a CO2 carrier is much denser than the ambient seawater even at shallow depths. The National Maritime Research Institute (NMRI) conducted several joint field CO2 release experiments with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI, USA) since 1999 under the auspices of the NEDO, and proposed the improved COSMOS, CO2 Sending Method for Ocean Storage, in which CO2 is released into 200 m depth as slurry masses (mixture of dry ice and cold liquid CO2). Since 2002, under the NEDO Grant, the NMRI started a new international joint research, OACE, Ocean Abyssal Carbon Experiment with the MBARI and the University of Bergen (UoB, Norway), in order to accumulate the basic data on the long-term stability of stored CO2 and its environmental effects around storage site.

Abstract:
Consideration of a hydrogen based economy is attractive because it allows energy to be transported and stored at high densities and then transformed into useful work in pollution-free turbine or fuel cell conversion systems. Through its New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) the Japanese government is sponsoring the World Energy Network (WE-NET) Program. The program is a 28-year global effort to define and implement technologies needed for a hydrogen-based energy system. A critical part of this effort is the development of a hydrogen-fueled combustion turbine system to efficiently convert the chemical energy stored in hydrogen to electricity when the hydrogen is combusted with pure oxygen. The full-scale demonstration will be a greenfield power plant located sea-side. Hydrogen will be delivered to the site as a cryogenic liquid, and its cryogenic energy will be used to power an air liquefaction unit to produce pure oxygen. To meet the NEDO plant thermal cycle requirement of a minimum of 70.9%, low heating value (LHV), a variety of possible cycle configurations and working fluids have been investigated. This paper reports on the selection of the best cycle (a Rankine cycle), and the two levels of technology needed to support a near-term plant and a long-term plant. The combustion of pure hydrogen with pure hydrogen with pure oxygen results only in steam, thereby allowing for a direct-fired Rankine steam cycle. A near-term plant would require only moderate development to support the design of an advanced high pressure steam turbine and an advanced intermediate pressure steam turbine.

Abstract:
Cell and stack life and reliability is one of the biggest issues to realize solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power generation systems. The R&D investigation on reliability has been carried out under New Energy Development Organization (NEDO) program by authors. Endurance tests were implemented for tubular type SOFCs, and performance analysis results were compared to post test analysis results. The performance was analyzed by using performance estimation equations developed by CRIEPI and longitudinal increase of cathode overpotential was observed. Comparing to the post test analyzed by AIST, Cr poisoning was also observed at the cathode. These results indicate the adequacy of performance estimation method.
