We describe the spatial distribution of Pinus uncinata individuals classified according to their growth-form and size at two undisturbed altitudinal treeline ecotones in the Spanish Pyrenees (Ordesa, O; Tessó, T). At each site, a rectangular plot (30 ´140 m) was located with its longest side along the altitudinal gradient, and encompassing treeline and timberline. At both sites, living individuals were bigger and had a higher number of needle cohorts downslope. The distribution of size and growth-form classes at site O followed a neat sequence of increasing size downslope, from abundant shrubb

Abstract Nowadays, needle artifacts are an essential restriction for MRI-guided interventions, as they influence the visually perceived needle size and needle destination. Standard MRI needles made of Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) alloys still produce massive artifacts in MRI due to materials’ interactions with the magnetic environment. The use of non-metallic materials can reduce these artifacts. Therefore, we propose a nonmetallic concept of a coaxial needle design concept with a fiber-enforced inner core and an outer polymeric hollow sheet. However, in practice, the choice is difficult, namely due to the lack of quantitative data that may support the empirical evaluation made by the sewing technicians. Abstract:
AbstractClostridium botulinum toxin (BT) must be administered intramuscularly with a syringe, but dead space in the syringe–needle complex may cause product waste and result in cost implications for the patient and provider. Syringe dead space is the volume of residual fluid that remains within the syringe after the plunger is fully depressed during medication injection. We calculated the average volume of remaining product in a syringe–needle complex and cost loss implication of this volume of BT. This is a single-center, analytical study using saline and four different sized needles for anal
