<strong>ABSTRACT:</strong> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; The full primordial god Shiva&#39;s name as Shivaperuman is not found in the Sangam literature. But there are many other names that can refer to Lord Shiva such as Mazhuval Nedion, Nankatha Muthuvan, Neelkandan etc. Among them, eight books are about Lord Shiva in Puranahundu, known as the Tamil Treasury. Also, many serials like Tripuram Eritavan, Neelnimir Sadayan, Kukumidathan, Pirainutula Bolintha Senni, Mukkan Selvan, Neelmani Midatan etc. are meant to refer to Shiva. Thus, Purana Hundred has explored in detail the fact that Lord Shiva has ruled under various names denoting his origin, even if not as Lord Shiva.

Abstract:
<em>Mythology has always been a crucial part of human culture, significantly shaping beliefs, values, and social structures. It influences human consciousness by offering stories that explain the mysteries of existence, the natural world, and moral challenges. Myths often form the basis for religious practices and cultural identity, affecting everything from personal behavior to community traditions. However, as societies change, myths are reinterpreted through a process called demythologization, where traditional tales are analyzed with modern perspectives to uncover their symbolic meanings rather than their literal interpretations. The reinterpretation of mythology is becoming increasingly popular, with various scholars and authors shedding new light on ancient myths and questioning their relevance today. Writers such as Devdutt Pattanaik, Amish Tripathi, and Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni have made significant contributions to this conversation, reshaping mythic narratives to align with contemporary values like equality, justice, and self-empowerment.</em> <em>In this landscape, Anand Neelakantan&rsquo;s works, especially the Ajaya and Asura series, have been instrumental in promoting the trend of mythological reinterpretation. Neelakantan examines mythology from the viewpoint of the defeated and marginalized, providing an alternative narrative to the conventional heroic stories. His works challenge the moral absolutism found in epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana, fostering a more inclusive and humanistic understanding of these ancient tales. Neelakantan&rsquo;s reinterpretation adds a vital perspective to how mythology is viewed, establishing him as a key figure in contemporary Indian literature.</em> <em>This research paper will examine how Anand Neelakantan's Ajaya series reinterprets Vyasa's Mahabharata. By focusing on the narrative through the eyes of the Kauravas and other marginalized characters, it seeks to reveal the deeper meanings behind Neelakantan's revisionist take on the epic.</em>

Abstract:

Abstract:
The recent research paper expounds the rendering of love, fate, beauty and life in the novel, Nala Damayanti. Anand Neelakantan is back with a striking new novel from the epic characters of Nala and Damayanti from Mahabharata. It is a factual that the story has persisted comparatively indefinite for the current generation, and this book is an effort to convey it to the younger generations of today. Nala Damayanti story is expressed from the outlook of Nala and how destiny arbitrated in his life. From an overemotional story of despair, it develops a stirring tale of a woman of substance. Neelakantan relates this timeless love story through Damayanti and the golden swan Hemanga's viewpoints. The eternal love is beautifully explored in this novel. Nala Damayanti is not only a love story with a joyful conclusion but it is also a stimulating leader to life. It is the tale of how humans can subjugate even gods if they have confidence and hope in themselves. A considerate tone is frequently used to express such tales in literature from the standpoint of a female and her close confidante and messenger of love, Hemanga, the golden swan. The author purely indicates that, the world can be protected even by a woman and a little swan and their sense of wit, and it can be ended without violence and wars.

Abstract:
In the contexts of deep learning (DL) considered in artificial intelligence (AI) efforts, relevant machine learning (ML) algorithms adopted refer to using a class of deep artificial neural network (ANN) that supports a learning process exercised with an enormous set of input data (labeled and/or unlabeled) so to predict at the output details on accurate features of labeled data present in the input data set.&#x0D; In the present study, a deep ANN is proposed thereof conceived with certain novel considerations: The proposed deep architecture consists of a large number of consequently placed structures of paired-layers. Each layer hosts identical number of neuronal units for computation and the neuronal units are massively interconnected across the entire network. Further, each paired-layer is independently subjected to unsupervised learning (USL). Hence, commencing from the input layer-pair, the excitatory (input) data supplied flows across the interconnected neurons of paired layers, terminating eventually at the final pair of layers, where the output is recovered. That is, the converged neuronal states at any given pair is iteratively passed on to the next pair and so on. The USL suite involves collectively gathering the details of neural information across a pair of the layers constituting the network. This summed data is then limited with a specific choice of a squashing (sigmoidal) function; and, the resulting scaled value is used to adjust the coefficients of interconnection weights seeking a convergence criterion. The associated learning rate on weight adjustment is uniquely designed to facilitate fast learning towards convergence. The unique aspects of deep learning proposed here refer to: (i) Deducing the learning coefficient with a compatible algorithm so as to realize a fast convergence; and, (ii) the adopted sigmoidal function in the USL loop conforms to the heuristics of the so-called Langevin-Neelakanta machine. The paper describes the proposed deep ANN architecture with necessary details on structural considerations, sigmoidal selection, prescribing required learning rate and operational (training and predictive phase) routines. Results are furnished to demonstrate the performance efficacy of the test ANN.

Abstract:
This paper primarily focuses on the delineation of relationship between masculinity and mythology in selected Indian fiction in English of Anand Neelakantan and Usha Narayanan. It attempts to re-access several critical facts of Indian mythology and related literary pieces that goes beyond the parameters of colonial and postcolonial viewpoints in India. The paper offers some points where the mythological characters took contemporary form surpassing the conventional treatment of masculinity, class, caste and gender performances. The connection between the social divisions like caste, class and gender performance is clearly presented. The paper through qualitative interpretations also tries to interrogate, negate and create new critical points of interpretations that reconstructed various theoretical dimensions and definitions. It also directs the studies on mythology in a new pattern presenting mythology as an important and essential academic discourse. It makes the discussion highly significant to meet the academic and scholarly demands of recent and upcoming time.

Abstract:
Anand Neelakantan's retelling of Tataka's story in <em>Valmiki's Women</em> (2021) offers a compelling narrative that intertwines environmental consciousness, ethical considerations, and gender dynamics. Tataka's tale serves as a metaphor for the intricate relationship between humanity and nature, illustrating the dire consequences of unchecked greed and exploitation. Through Tataka's character, Neelakantan underscores the importance of preserving the delicate balance between civilisation and the natural world, urging readers to reflect on the repercussions of their choices and advocate for sustainable coexistence with the ecosystem. By framing Tataka's narrative through an ecofeminist lens, the text sheds light on broader systemic issues of patriarchy and environmental exploitation, offering a timely exploration of gender, power, and the environment. Neelakantan's retelling of Tataka's story prompts critical reflection on the interconnectedness of social and ecological justice issues, advocating for systemic change and collective action in the face of ongoing environmental crises and gender inequality. This paper delves into Neelakantan's portrayal of Tataka as an eco-warrior, challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes while highlighting the parallels between the subjugation of women and the degradation of nature. In its study, the paper integrates various ecofeminist and gender theories to substantiate the arguments.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT To improve clinical use of nickel–titanium (NiTi) endodontic rotary instruments by better understanding the alloys that compose them. A large number of engine-driven NiTi shaping instruments already exists on the market and newer generations are being introduced regularly. While emphasis is being put on design and technique, manufacturers are more discreet about alloy characteristics that dictate instrument behavior. Along with design and technique, alloy characteristics of endodontic instruments is one of the main variables affecting clinical performance. Modification in NiTi alloys is numerous and may yield improvements, but also drawbacks. Martensitic instruments seem to display better cyclic fatigue properties at the expense of surface hardness, prompting the need for surface treatments. On the contrary, such surface treatments may improve cutting efficiency but are detrimental to the gain in cyclic fatigue resistance. Although the design of the instrument is vital, it should in no way cloud the importance of the properties of the alloy and how they influence the clinical behavior of NiTi instruments. Clinical significance Dentists are mostly clinicians rather than engineers. With the advances in instrumentation design and alloys, they have an obligation to deal more intimately with engineering consideration to not only take advantage of their possibilities but also acknowledge their limitations. Abstract:
In his seminal work, Ecoprecarity: Vulnerable Lives in Literature and Culture (2019), Pramod Nayar defines “ecoprecarity” as the representation of “the precarious lives humans lead in the event of ecological disaster” (7). This concept of ecoprecarity also brings to the surface the numerous ways the dialectics of the environment get “rendered precarious due to human intervention in the Anthropocene” (7). Ambikasutan Mangad’s acclaimed Malayalam novel Swarga: A Posthuman Tale (2017), translated into English by the eminent historian Jayakumari Devika, canvasses the years-long battle against the devastating impacts of endosulfan usage in producing extensive cashew crops at Kasaragod district, Northern Kerala. Neelakantan and Devayani, outraged by the mechanisms of the capitalistic gig economy of the metropolitan space, decide to settle in the remote, peaceful, dense jungles of Swarga to live in a deep symbiotic relationship with non-human entities. The ruinous consequences of chemical pollution at this indigenous site prompt this couple to protest against the degradation of environmental resources in association with the brave, honest journalist Jayarajan. This article maps how the prevailing idea of “ecoprecarity” as an “intertwined set of discourses of fragility, vulnerability, power relations across species” (6) pinpoints the “vulnerability of all lifeforms, their attendant ecosystems and relations between and across lifeforms” (14) in Mangad’s eco-narrative. By foregrounding Hindu mythology as a living ontological framework, this paper further interrogates how the climate catastrophe has become a peril of the rich Keralite culture and heritage as God’s own country in this fiction.

Full text
Abstract:
Mythology has often been shaped by the victors, and in Indian epics, the Asuras have predominantly been cast as the antagonists, symbols of arrogance, chaos, and destruction. Traditional retellings of texts like the Ramayana and Mahabharata reinforce this binary division between the noble Devas and the villainous Asuras. However, modern reinterpretations, particularly those by Anand Neelakantan, challenge this long-standing perception by presenting the Asuras as complex, multi-dimensional beings driven by their struggles, ambitions, and ideals. This article explores the Asuras from an alternative perspective, emphasizing their role as symbols of resistance rather than mere forces of evil. By revisiting the tales of figures like Ravana, who is often depicted as a scholar and a visionary, and Mahabali, whose reign was marked by justice and prosperity, the article critiques the dominant narrative that brands the Asuras as villains. It also delves into the inherent moral ambiguity within mythology, illustrating how Devas and Asuras are not purely good or evil but products of their circumstances and beliefs. Furthermore, the discussion highlights how mythology reflects societal structures, power struggles, and the erasure of marginalized voices. By questioning the divine order and the selective retelling of history, the article urges readers to reconsider the legacy of Asuras not as demons but as misunderstood entities whose stories deserve a fresh, unbiased evaluation. In doing so, it opens a dialogue on the importance of perspective in shaping historical and mythological narratives.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction To assess the amount of debris extruded apically during instrumentation of distal canals of extracted primary molars by three instrument systems [ProTaper Universal (PTU), ProTaper NEXT (PTN), and self-adjusting file (SAF)] compared with conventional stainless steel hand K-files (HF, control). Materials and methods Primary mandibular molars (n = 120) with a single distal canal were selected and randomly divided into four groups (n = 30) for root canal instrumentation using group I, HF (to size 0.30/0.02 taper), group II, PTU (to size F3), group III, PTN (to size X3), and group IV, SAF. Debris extruded during instrumentation was collected in preweighed Eppendorf tubes, stored in an incubator at 70°C for 5 days and then weighed. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Turkey's post hoc test (p = 0.05). Results All the groups resulted in extrusion of debris. There was statistically significant difference (p &lt; 0.001) in the debris extrusion between the three groups: HF (0.00133 ± 0.00012), PTU (0.00109 ± 0.00005), PTN (0.00052 ± 0.00008), and SAF (0.00026 ± 0.00004). Conclusion Instrumentation with SAF resulted in the least debris extrusion when used for shaping root canals of primary molar teeth. Clinical significance Debris extrusion in primary teeth poses an adverse effect on the stem cells and may also alter the permanent dental germ. Debris extrusion is rarely reported for primary teeth and it is important for the clinician to know which endodontic instrumentation leads to less extrusion of debris. Abstract:
The present research paper is intended to explore the selected three novels in South Indian languages through an ecological perspective as the comparative study in this particular area has not been conducted so far. Carvalho (1980) by K.P. Purnachandra Tejasvi in Kannada, Enmakaje (2009) by AmbikaSutanMangad in Malayalam, Ini&hellip; by MalanmyPonnuchami in Tamil are the selected novels to be investigated. Though the Novelists of South India are unfurling the local ecological concerns, they also reveal the global connections behind these issues. Therefore, the hypothesis here is that ecology-based local novels are having dialogues with global issues.&nbsp; Carvalho, a scientist with an international background and funding, fails to find a flying lizard and Mandanna, a rural truant claims to have seen the flying wonder. Thus the dialogical imagination of the global and local knowledge of ecology has been depicted. Devayaani and Neelakanta in Enmakaje discard their urban life and wish to lead a peaceful rural life. They reach Enmakaje and witness the sufferings of the people due to the aerial spray of the pesticide over the cashew grove. The novel Ini strongly argues that agriculture is not merely a job but is a culture. Chemical fertilizers infused into the soil will delete the goodness of the earth. In depth study of these three novels as a part of the ecological discourse in Dravidian languages will provide a vivid picture of Human-Nature, Urban-Rural conflicts also.

Abstract:
The history of origin and development of dance and music tradition of Tamils in the ancient period can be traced merely from Cangam literature-Ettuthokai and Patthuppattu . The period of this literature is considered from 200 BC to later period of 300 AD or early part of the 4th century AD. There is no other evidences excavated about the ancient dancers from archeological sources. K.A Neelakanda Sastry, historian of Tamil Nadu used Ettuthokai and Pattuppattu as a significant source to write the ancient history of Tamil Nadu, as evidences for the history because of non availability of archeological evidences at that time.&#x0D; Ancient Dance tradition of Tamils was originated from the indigenous dance tradition of Tamils, lived in Kurinji (hill Countryand nearby lands) Mullai (pastoral region) Marutham (rivarbanks) Neithal (Coastal Area) and Palai (desert).Cangam literature shows that the tribal people of these lands performed ritual dances . These performances are the roots to the origin of Tamil dances , after that, with the establishment of stateformation of Tamil Nadu skill dancers and minstrels developed new forms of dances and music, in later period these dances were being called as Vettiyal.&#x0D; Dancers and minstrels were lived under the patronage of the kings of Tamil Nadu and loved by the kings. These performers praised the kings’ victory, their patronization and nvolved in their patrons’ family life also.&#x0D; Ritual dances were performed in Cult spots and war front. The literature shows that some of these performances have been developed as classical dances.&#x0D; Nowadays there is an opinion about Baratha natiyam that it was originated from sanskrit sources. But the ancient history of this dance tradition clearly shows that Baratha natiam was originated from the ancient dance tradition of Tamil Nadu.&#x0D; This study focuses the origin and development of dance tradition of ancient Tamils and the performances of female dancers of thisera, and flourished life of the the mas well asin the decline of the kings of three monarchy and other patrons how the dancers lost their wealthy life in the period.

Abstract:
Abstract Background: Monomorphic Epitheliotropic Intestinal T-cell Lymphoma (MEITL) is a rare extranodal intestinal PTCL. It is an aggressive disease with an overall poor prognosis. However, the disease presents a diverse spectrum of survival outcomes. We conducted this study to develop a provisional MEITL prognostic score (MPS) for this rare disease. Methods: We used our updated MEITL database, which contains retrospective data on 218 cases. Such data included demographics such as sex, age, and race. It also included disease presentation symptoms, duration of symptoms before diagnosis, site(s) of the disease, stage, blood counts, disease immune and molecular phenotype, types of treatment, quality of response, and survival outcomes. Out of the 218 cases, only 140 cases had complete survival and outcomes data, the sample chosen for this study. Cox proportional-hazards model and Log-rank tests were used to assess the influence of clinicopathologic factors on overall survival (OS). Due to the relatively small training cohort, we included factors that statistically impacted OS as well as factors that numerically trended that way. Results: The median OS of the cohort was 11 months. The following dichotomous variables were identified as impactful prognostic factors in this cohort: Bone marrow involvement (9 vs. 14 months), Non-biclonal TCR status (10 vs. 17.5 months), CD56+ (10 vs. 26 months), Ki67&amp;gt;70% (4 vs. 8 months), cMyc expression &amp;gt;15% (7 vs. 12 months). A prognostic model was devised using these variables to identify different levels of risk. Each variable was assigned a score of 1 when present, except for cMyc, which was assigned 2 points for having the highest hazard ratio among all the variables. In this exploratory cohort, low risk was assigned a score of 0, intermediate risk a score of 1-2, and high risk a score of 3-6. This prognostic score system led to our cohort's most optimal risk discriminatory model, where low, intermediate, and high risk had a median OS of 26, 12, and 4 months, respectively (p=0.002). Conclusion: This MPS is a promising new tool for risk-stratifying patients with MEITL. However, it still needs prospective validation. Citation Format: Philip A. Abstract:
Abstract Background Cytokines are key signalling molecules of the immune system that play critical roles in immune regulation. Cytokine ligands binding to their receptors initialise signalling cascades, culminating in the regulation of downstream target genes, including other cytokines. Thus, cytokines can form complex networks of interactions, in which cytokines regulate the production and activity of other cytokines, thereby organising immune responses. Such cytokine–cytokine interactions are important for maintaining the proper balance and specificity of immune responses. However, when dysregulated, chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disorders such as ulcerative colitis (UC) can develop. Despite the advent of advanced therapies targeting cytokine signalling, treatment outcomes for UC patients remain suboptimal. As such, there is a pressing need to better understand the cytokine regulation in UC by comprehensively mapping the interconnected cytokine signalling networks perturbed in UC patients. Methods We undertook single-cell systems immunology modelling of colonic biopsies of treatment-naive and treatment-exposed UC patients and healthy controls using harmonised single-cell transcriptomics data from the scIBD atlas [1]. This dataset allowed us to build condition specific cytokine signalling networks underpinned by putative cytokine–cytokine interactions. Results The generated cytokine networks effectively captured known physiologically relevant cytokine–cytokine interactions, which we recapitulated in vitro using UC patient-derived colonic epithelial organoids (n = 4). The resulting cytokine networks revealed new aspects of UC pathogenesis, including a cytokine subnetwork unique to treatment-naive UC patients. We identified highly rewired cytokines across UC disease states (TL1A, IL22, IL23A, and OSM), and JAK paralogue-specific cytokine–cytokine interactions that may inform the broader cytokine network effects of JAK inhibitor treatment. The cytokine network captures all significantly downregulated cytokine targets of anti-TL1A treatment shown in Hassan-Zahraee et al. [2], highlighting TL1A as an important upstream regulator of TNF and IL23A. Conclusion These findings open up novel avenues for guiding future cytokine-targeting therapeutic approaches in UC, by highlighting the likely downstream cytokines perturbed by cytokine inhibition, and elucidating the cytokine signalling differences in treatment-naive and treatment exposed UC. The presented methodology [3] can be readily applied to gain similar insights into other immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs). Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Prophylactic regimens with coagulation factor in patients with hemophilia A have been designed to maintain FVIII activity above 1 IU/dL, based on previous studies demonstrating that joints can be preserved and bleeding is minimized when circulating factor levels remain above this level (Nilsson IM, et al. J Intern Med 1992). Collins and colleagues confirmed this observation and demonstrated that increasing time spent under 1 IU/dL FVIII activity in patients on prophylaxis with recombinant FVIII (rFVIII) was associated with an increase in bleeding episodes and hemarthroses (Collins PW, et al. J Thromb Haemost 2009). The pharmacokinetics (PK), safety, and efficacy of rFVIII Fc fusion protein (rFVIIIFc) have been evaluated in the A-LONG study and recently reported (Mahlangu J, et al. J Thromb Haemost 2013). Briefly, previously treated male patients, ≥12 years old with severe hemophilia A, were enrolled in A-LONG and allocated to 1 of 3 treatment arms: Arm 1) individualized prophylaxis with dose and dosing interval adjustments (25–65 IU/kg every 3–5 days) based on PK and clinical indications, Arm 2, fixed dose (65 IU/kg) weekly prophylaxis, and Arm 3, episodic treatment (10–50 IU/kg) for bleeding episodes. The median annualized bleeding rates for individualized prophylaxis and weekly prophylaxis were 1.6 and 3.6, respectively, and 33.6 for episodic treatment. In this analysis, we evaluated the bleeding tendency in relation to predicted FVIII activity levels in 163 subjects in the A-LONG study. Methods A 2-compartment population PK model of rFVIIIFc was developed based on activity-time profiles in 180 severe hemophilia A subjects aged 12 – 65 years old (16 from a Phase 1/2a study and 164 from A-LONG collected over ≤ 52 weeks of treatment) (Neelakantan S, et al. J Thromb Haemost 2013). Individual post-hoc PK parameters were derived to construct continuous FVIII activity-time profiles for each dose administered over the course of the study for 163 subjects in A-LONG. The cumulative time under 1IU/dL FVIII levels for each individual on study was calculated and normalized to obtain annualized time under 1IU/dL. Negative binomial regression models were used to evaluate associations between the number of bleeding episodes (overall, spontaneous, traumatic, and joint) and annualized time (days) under 1IU/dL FVIII activity. Models were adjusted for age, body mass index, baseline HIV and HCV status, baseline von Willebrand factor, number of bleeding episodes in the 12 months prior to study entry, and each subject’s time on study. Results The predicted median annualized time under 1IU/dL FVIII activity for subjects on episodic treatment was 224.81 days, which was shortened to 51.55 days in subjects on a fixed prophylactic dose of 65 IU/kg of rFVIIIFc once weekly, and further reduced to 2.17 days in subjects on tailored prophylactic regimens (25 – 65 IU/kg, every 3 – 5 days). Multivariable negative binomial regression analysis showed that the number of overall bleeding episodes increased with increased time spent under 1IU/dL of FVIII activity level (p&lt;0.001). A significant association was also observed for the time under 1IU/dL and the individual bleed types (spontaneous, traumatic, and joint) when analyzed separately. In addition, across all subtypes of bleeding, there was a significant decrease in the odds of being bleed-free for each one day increase in the time spent under 1IU/dL of FVIII activity. Conclusions In subjects treated with rFVIIIFc in the A-LONG study, there was a significant association between increased time spent under 1IU/dL of FVIII activity and increased bleeding tendency, as well as decreased odds of being bleed-free. The findings reinforce the importance of a therapeutic threshold of 1 IU/dL of FVIII activity as reported previously, and contribute to building a stronger foundation for designing effective rFVIIIFc prophylactic dosing regimens based on population PK simulations of FVIII activity. As in other cultures, contemporary writers in India are retelling ancient myths from a new perspective. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s The Palace of Illusions (2008) and Pratibha Ray’s Yajnaseni: The Story of Draupadi (1995) thus relay one of the major works of Hindu culture, the Mahābhārata, through the eyes of Draupadi, wife to the five Pandava brothers, while in Asura: Tale of the Vanquished (2015), Anand Neelakantan reworks another major myth, the Rāmāyana, to give voice to an even more marginalized cast-out, the demon Rāvana, as does Arun Kukreja in his play Dashaanan (2004). The idealized male heroes of Indian mythology thus come under the scathing gaze of their wife or opponent, and the core values of ancient myth are radically questioned.

Abstract:
The two central epics of India, The Ramayana and The Mahabharata, are considered to have major impact on the formation of Indian knowledge systems, its moral, philosophical, ethical, social, political philosophy and contemporary educational structures to impart ethical lessons and cultural literacy (Chakrabarti, 2010). Its teachings are considered to have a universal impact that can be observed in the daily activities of people of India. The recent surge in narrative techniques reveal an attempt to revive and retelling of the mythological stories from the perspective of present generation to make its teachings, morals, ethics, and philosophy comprehensible for the contemporary tech generation. The basic principle behind the Indian Knowledge System as a policy, is to revive the knowledge of the past that somehow gets ignored by various forces and make available the vast knowledge that exists. Anand Neelakantan has emerged to be such a figure who, to convey message to the present generation, retells the mythological tales from the perspective of present undertone to make it easily understood and identifiable by the present generation. He borrows the structures from various mythologies and transforms them according to present situations, issues and predicaments faced by present generation and attempts to find a solution.

Abstract:
Indian Knowledge System, the repository of the entire literary and aesthetic corpus of the sub-continent, has a rich repertoire comprising texts like The Ramayana and The Mahabharata and critical texts like The Natyasastra. The former belong to the canon of Epics, they stand representatives of a tradition comprising texts like Chandrabati’s Ramayana, Jaini Ramayana, Asura: Tale of the Vanquished by Neelakantan, Draupadi by Pattanaik, etc. The genres that the tradition comprises vary from poetry to novel and a long oral tradition, as Nabneeta Dev Sen opines, of songs from these epics. In the list, however, is another writer, belonging to the canon of Sanskrit Dramaturgy, whose works are the oldest surviving extant texts in Sanskrit drama: Bhasa, the father of Sanskrit Drama. Chronologically, Bhasa is placed between the composition of Natyasastra and Malvikagnimitram and his plays are dramatic representations of the events of The Ramayana and The Mahabharata. The research paper attempts to delve into two primary questions: that of aesthetic fidelity of the father of Sanskrit drama, to a tradition of writing that precedes him; and secondly, his literary fidelity to the foundational narratives in the Indian Literary Traditions. Through an interrogation of Bhasa’s works on these two parameters, and applying the terminologies of Adoption, Adaptation and Abrogation, the paper shall strive to place him in the canon of Indian Literature and the implications of his positionality, on Indian Literature, especially in relation to contemporaneity.
