Abstract Various fracture classification systems were proposed during the first half of the twentieth century. Some were based on the anatomical fracture level, while others on the underlying trauma mechanism deduced from the radiographical pattern. He developed a classification system by correlating the initial radiographs with intraoperative findings. Abstract:
Dangerous animal encounters have steadily increased over time and consumption of deadly plants is an important issue [12]. Our paper introduces a new mobile application that addresses the critical need for accurate animal and plant identification and classification to help mitigate safety risks for humans. With up to five million animal attacks reported every year in the United States alone, and over 100,000 cases of toxic plant exposure there is a need and a responsibility to increase awareness of the risks associated with animal and plant ignorance. Our proposed app utilizes innovative classif

Abstract:
We introduce a quantum neural network, QNN, that can represent labeled data, classical or quantum, and be trained by supervised learning. The quantum circuit consists of a sequence of parameter dependent unitary transformations which acts on an input quantum state. For binary classification a single Pauli operator is measured on a designated readout qubit. The measured output is the quantum neural network’s predictor of the binary label of the input state. We show through classical simulation that parameters can be found that allow the QNN to learn to correctly distinguish the two data sets. W

Abstract:
We assess the potential effect of large language models (LLMs) on the labor markets of Chile, Mexico, and Peru using the methodology of Eloundou et al. (2023). This approach involves detailed guidelines (rubrics) for each job to assess whether access to LMM software would reduce the time required for workers to complete their daily tasks. Adapting this methodology to the Latin American context necessitated developing a comprehensive crosswalk between the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) and regional occupational classifications, SINCO-2011 and ISCO-2008. When we use this adaptation, th

The objectives of this project were to develop procedures and models, based on neural networks, for quality sorting of agricultural produce. Two research teams, one in Purdue University and the other in Israel, coordinated their research efforts on different aspects of each objective utilizing both melons and tomatoes as case studies. At Purdue: An expert system was developed to measure variances in human grading. Data were acquired from eight sensors: vision, two firmness sensors (destructive and nondestructive), chlorophyll from fluorescence, color sensor, electronic sniffer for odor detecti

The U.S. Army is increasingly interested in autonomous vehicle operations, including off-road autonomous ground maneuver. Unlike on-road, off-road terrain can vary drastically, especially with the effects of seasonality. As such, vehicles operating in off-road environments need to be in-formed about the changing terrain prior to departure or en route for successful maneuver to the mission end point. The purpose of this report is to assess machine learning algorithms used on various remotely sensed datasets to see which combinations are useful for identifying different terrain. The study collec

Munitions and other objects buried near the Earth’s surface can often be recognized in infrared imagery because their thermal and radiative properties differ from the surrounding undisturbed soil. However, the evolution of the thermal signature over time is subject to many complex interacting processes, including incident solar radiation, heat conduction in the ground, longwave radiation from the surface, and sensible and latent heat exchanges with the atmosphere. This complexity makes development of robust classification algorithms particularly challenging. Machine-learning algorithms, althou

This note brings together lessons from the IDBs and other institutions efforts to adapt a skills taxonomy for Latin America and the Caribbean countries. These efforts have focused primarily on the ability to gather and make use of labor market information on skills demand from non-traditional data sources like online job vacancies. Most of these efforts have used the European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations (ESCO) taxonomy to underpin the identification and classification of skills. This note is intended to be a starting point and set of considerations for policymakers who
