Gene expression is tightly regulated during hematopoiesis. Recent studies have suggested that RNA polymerase II (Pol II) promoter proximal pausing, a temporary stalling downstream of the promoter region after initiation, plays a critical role in regulating the expression of various genes in metazoans. However, the function of proximal pausing in hematopoietic gene regulation remains largely unknown. The negative elongation factor (NELF) complex is a key factor important for this proximal pausing. Previous studies have suggested that NELF regulates granulocytic differentiation in vitro, but its

ABSTRACT Negative elongation factor (NELF) is a human transcription factor complex that cooperates with DRB sensitivity-inducing factor (DSIF)/hSpt4-hSpt5 to repress elongation by RNA polymerase II (RNAPII). NELF activity is associated with five polypeptides, including NELF-A, a candidate gene product for Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, and NELF-E, a putative RNA-binding protein with arginine-aspartic acid (RD) dipeptide repeats. Here we report several important findings regarding the DSIF/NELF-dependent elongation control. First, we have established an effective method for purifying the active NELF

Many shipyards and fabricators have equipment supporting complex compound curve forming, which contain many manual processes where mistakes can occur through looking up data and interpreting data. When an error occurs, it is not immediately noticed and causes significant negative schedule impacts as well as costly production rework. The Nieland press is once such piece of equipment, it is an efficient and useful tool many shipyards and fabricators use to form compound curves and shape in plate. The Nieland press, like many presses of this type, are operated by an individual who uses a graphica

Abstract:
Two very important factors which determine the effectiveness of a pump are its volumetric and energy efficiencies. Yin and Ghoneim constructed a prototype of a flexible body pump with a very high volumetric efficiency or pumping potential (the relative volume reduction due to a relative input stroke) [1]. The high volumetric efficiency is attributed to the geometry of the pump’s structure (hyperboloid) as well as the high negative effective Poisson’s ratio of the 3-layer ([θ/β/θ]) flexible-matrix-composite (carbon/polyurethane) laminate adopted for the body of the pump. Abstract:
The original objectives of the research were: i. To study the role of GA in anther development, ii. To manipulate GA and/or GA signal transduction levels in the anthers in order to generate male sterility. iii. To characterize the GA signal transduction repressor, SPY. Previous studies have suggested that gibberellins (GAs) are required for normal anther development. In this work, we studied the role of GA in the regulation of anther development in petunia. When plants were treated with the GA-biosynthesis inhibitor paclobutrazol, anther development was arrested. Microscopic analysis of these

Abstract:
Seepage is a typical hydraulic factor that can initiate the breaching process in a levee system. If not identified and treated on time, seepages can be a severe problem for levees, weakening the levee structure and eventually leading to collapse. Therefore, it is essential always to be vigilant with regular monitoring procedures to identify seepages throughout these levee systems and perform adequate repairs to limit potential threats from unforeseen levee failures. This paper introduces a fully convolutional neural network to identify and segment seepage from the image in levee systems. To th

Executive Summary This report describes a series of experiments carried out by PRICE Lab, a research programme at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) jointly funded by the Central Bank of Ireland, the Commission for Energy Regulation, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the Commission for Communications Regulation. The experiments were conducted with samples of Irish consumers aged 18-70 years and were designed to answer the following general research question: At what point do products become too complex for consumers to choose accurately between the good ones

Abstract:
The COP9 signalosome (CSN) is an eight-subunit protein complex that is highly conserved among eukaryotes. Genetic analysis of the signalosome in the plant model species Arabidopsis thaliana has shown that the signalosome is a repressor of light dependent seedling development as mutant Arabidopsis seedlings that lack this complex develop in complete darkness as if exposed to light. These mutant plants die following the seedling stage, even when exposed to light, indicating that the COP9 signalosome also has a central role in the regulation of normal photomorphogenic development. Original objectives: The basic goal of the present project was to increase our understanding of the cellular mechanisms operating during the gravitropic response of cut flowers, for solving their bending problem without affecting flower quality. Thus, several elements operating at the 3 levels o the gravity-induced signal transduction pathway, were proposed to be examined in snapdragon stems according to the following research goals: 1) Signaling: characterize the signal transduction pathway leading to the gravitropic response, regarding the involvement of [Ca2+]cyt as a mediator of IAA moveme
