Algae, bacteria, and fungi, as well as higher plants, produce a wide variety of secondary metabolites known as natural products. Natural products are well known as remarkable sources of many therapeutic agents. The genus Nemania is a wood-decaying fungus that belongs to family Xylariaceae. Nemania is often found as an endophyte in diverse hosts and some species are known to produce useful secondary metabolites. In this study, two Nemania species were isolated as an endophytic fungus from Aquilaria sinensis. Multi-gene phylogenetic studies showed that the newly described strains of Nemania are

This PhD thesis investigates how the successors to the first ruler of an amalgamation of Serb lands, the Raškan Serb Veliki Župan, Stefan Nemanja, sought to create legitimacy for what otherwise may have been the passing successes of one local chieftain. The question is approached through the Lives of Nemanja written by his sons, Prvovenčani and Sava, whose tasks were to stabilise the immediate succession and consolidate the longer lasting power of the dynasty. Through a close reading of the two Lives, the thesis identifies and compares the motifs used by the authors to portray Nemanja as a sai

Nematic-nematic transitions are in thermotropic liquid crystals associated in most cases with the formation of a columnar structure in the low temperature nematic phase or the onset of cluster formation or with folding processes of polymer chains, there is evidence too for the formation of twist-bend structures as well as the

The possibility of the forced generation of regular hydrodynamic convective motions in a nematic liquid crystal with homeotropic boundary conditions and under the action of the radiation pressure of an acoustic wave with a periodic transverse intensity distribution are investigated theoretically. The excitation mechanism is as follows. Two interfering acoustic waves are partially absorbed by the liquid crystal. The absorption of an acoustic wave with a spatially periodic intensity distribution produced the same transverse distribution of the radiation pressure acting on the nematic particles.

Light induced changes of the refractive index in a nematic liquid crystal [1] and in a photorefractive crystal (KNbO3) [2] have been used to design an optically bistable device [3]. In the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) light can reorient biréfringent molecules. Therefore the NLC, placed between crossed polarizers, acts as an optically controlled gate.
