Full textAurelie Nemours' work developed on the sidelines of fashions and artistic evolutions of the 20th century, while being anchored into the problems of her epoch: abstraction and the questioning of meaning in pictorial representation. This thesis, titled "Aurelie Nemours, paintings and concepts" aims at tracing back the historical, conceptual and artistic stakes, involved in the uncommon creative evolution of an artist so far poorly known. The first part of the thesis situates Nemours' work in the context of history of art, by following the artist's progression towards abstraction. The second part analyses the four fundamental concepts structuring Nemours' artistic creation, from the study of her pictorial production and interviews she gave towards the end of her life. The square as form of variation is her main concept. It enables her to work with colour as a harmony and the number as the subjacent structure, so as to better reveal rhythm and void as keystones of her work. Although founded on numerical rapports and chromatic harmonies, Nemours' work cannot however be merely reviewed through a formalist analysis: Nemours herself has always claimed a spiritual dimension which brings philosophy into her work. Closer to Malewicz or to Mondrian for her faith in art (which is a form of utopia), considered to be one of the major characters in concrete art, in Max Bill or Joseph Albers' lineage, Nemours creates an authentic work of art, asserting durably geometrical abstraction as a pictorial language and offering vast creative potentialities for contemporary artists
Montaudoüin, Evelyne de. "Catalogue raisonné de l'oeuvre d'Aurélie Nemours." Paris 4, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010PA040049.
Full textAurélie Nemours (Paris, 1910-2005) is the most outstanding French figure of the so-called geometrical art in her generation. This descriptive catalogue of her works lists 1180 works created from 1948 to 2005, mostly oil painting, grouped within 20 families, adding stained , glass windows of the Notre Dame de Salagon and the Alignments of the twenty-first century in Rennes. In the light of comments by the artist and of her poetry, the catalogue tries to follow the inner logic of her course and to point out her originality. Aurélie Nemours begins in the wake of cubism. Without knowing the pioneers of abstract art, she develops a formal vocabulary which approximates constructive art, but she rapidly acquires an entirely personal abstraction. In the potential of a geometrical - the point and its versions in line and plane - she seeks to express an inmost experience lived up to the universal, suggesting the totality, the unity, the infinity of the being, in the multiplicity, the diversity, the individuality of the world. The plane requires the colour : Aurelie Nemours works it with subtlety, sensitivity balancing exactitude. Her works are mostly conserved in private collections, 1/5 in public collections, maily in France, and besides in Germany and Switzerland

Full textThis dissertation deals with the emergence and growth of colloid chemistry in the early twentieth century, focusing particularly on the history of the colloid group set up at Du Pont, a major American chemical company, during the interwar period. It explores the relationship between the scientific issues raised by “colloidal” substances, and the technical, industrial and economic dimensions of the associated materials. The concept of “ontological shift of materials”, recently forged by two historians of chemistry, is appropriated as an interpretative framework to account for these evolutions in colloid science and technology. The paint and varnish industry, whose materials were then largely considered as colloidal, is taken as a major case study to analyze these relationships and evolutions, and its history is explored since the beginning of the century. The group was propelled by the quantification of the microstructure of these materials, in order to better explain and master their practical properties. The dissertation details why and how this new understanding of the properties of many substances on the basis of their microscopic components became, from the interwar onwards, embedded in the “rationalization” of the properties of materials, the processes to produce them, as well as the associated patents. This rationalization of products and processes is concomitant to the emergence of mass consumption – and the new emphasis on the “consumer” figure within companies – of industrially produced goods, particularly those of the paint and varnish industry

Full textThis dissertation focuses on the relationship between a large-scale firm, du pont de nemours, and the federal state in the u. S. , from the 1910s to the 1950s. Rather than a purely institutional or economic analysis, ces relationship are analyzed thru the history of a group of chemical engineers. These engineers developed nylon in the 1930s and plutonium for atomic bombs in the 1940s and later. In so doing, they changed their firm, by securing close connections with the state while meeting the demand from civilian consumers, eager to get nylons. Three levels of analysis are interwoven: the microhistorical level (a professional group and its technical work); an intermediate level, that of the organization, and its political and technical culture; and that of the american political economy and the emergence of the expert as the central political paragigm of post world war 2 america. These levels of analysis are connected to one another by the history of our chemical engineers' careers. By being at the crossroads of several marketsm they had strategic positions in the firm, which boosted their careers to the very top of corporate america

Full textThe issue of the thesis is to discuss and compare two works too often considered minor in the history of mathematics, despite the reputation of their respective authors, the Data of Euclid (third century. BCE) and the De numeris datis of Jordanus de Nemore (first half of the thirteenth century. ). The thesis is organized into two main parts. The first part is devoted first to a careful comparison of the structure of the Propositions contained in Euclid's Elements, and of those in his Data. The comparison then gives the precise content to Pappus's statements, somehow general, about the role that the Data played in the analytical method. The results are fïnally confirmed and reinforced by highlighting the use of reasoning using "strings of givens" as an analysis in some propositions of the Conics of Apollonius. The second part established, between the De numeris Datis and the De elementis arithmetice artis of Jordanus Nemore, a correspondence analogous to that which had been proposed between the Data and the Elements of Euclid. And this part reveals, between two parties of every Proposition in the De numeris datis, a relationship analogous to the method and structure "analysis-synthesis" that have been highlighted in the context of Greek geometry. The thesis also highlights the difference in approaches of the two authors, suggesting that Euclid seems seeking to provide an axiomatic-deductivefoundation for geometrical analysis while the Jordanus' interest is rather the effectiveness of the use of "strings of givens" for the analysis of problems on numbers
Le, Clerc-Poirier Justine. "Le fibroblaste pulpaire némotique." Thesis, Rennes 1, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016REN1B003.
Full textNemosis is a cell activation process – induced in vitro when sound mesenchymal cells are forced to cluster (spheroids) – which inevitably leads to a programmed necrotic cell death. Fibroblasts are the most commonly found cells in the dental pulp. The first aim of this study was to confirm that nemotic reaction could be observed in these cells and to compare their behaviour with that of sound lung fibroblasts, employed as a reference model for nemosis. This process displayed not only important similarities but also differences between the two cell types studied regarding cytokines release, proteolytic enzymes production and gene expressions. The second purpose of this work was to discriminate between nemosis and necroptosis, which is a programmed necrotic cell death. Finally, this study aimed to highlight whether this nemotic cell activation can occur in vivo during dental pulp diseases
