In this article, I’m trying to show the problems with co-autoethnography made on periphery in the times of neoliberal regime. The new requirements and new modes of evaluating workers and researchers transform the style of working and relations within academia and among humans in general. I’m trying to show that being global is a neocolonial tool for changing university into an entrepreneurial institution. I’m also trying to show the consequences of such a change.

Abstract In the second half of the twentieth century, Black sororities began establishing chapters and social programs across the globe, an intentional social action that Aisha A. Upton Azzam conceptualizes as the Black sorority movement (BSM). In this piece, Upton Azzam explores the style and extent of such international engagement. She illuminates the marginalized aspect of the movement’s international activism while clarifying how such activism may have also employed the very neoliberal, neocolonial, and patriarchal ideas and practices that the movement explicitly stated that they wished to

Abstract This article focuses on Scarlet Lies (2015), Scarlet Secrets (2015), and Scarlet Redemption (2019), the popular romance series by Samoan writer Lani Wendt Young. The novels deploy the recognizable chick-lit formula to narrate the predicaments and romantic adventures of a young Samoan woman in what could be defined, following Selina Tusitala Marsh, as “‘Chick Lit’ Pasifika-style” (“Aotearoa Reads”). My main argument is that Young b(l)ends the conventions of chick lit both by hybridizing some of its defining features and by repoliticizing the formula. While dealing with commonplace preo

The gardens, as well as the original architectural ensemble, in neocolonial style, have been legally protected in 2001. The group of researchers faced a triple challenge to make the virtual recreation. Upon the release of Frank Ocean’s 2016 album, Blonde, its minimalist yet textured musical aesthetic saw critics compare the album to works by rock auteurs such as Brian Wilson and Brian Eno. However, Blonde, while not necessarily a hip-hop album, makes extensive reference to hip-hop in both its musical and lyrical content as well as its extra-musical implications. This essay argues that Blonde’s various connections to a “hip-hop tradition” are more important to understanding the album’s identity than any comparison to a rock-influenced musical aesthetic. The military and political crisis in Cote d’Ivoire is an illustration of the assertion that resistance is a concept embodying a multitude of meanings. The Ivorian parties have framed their civil war as the result of a conflict between several meanings of resistance. The presidential party claims to lead a nationalist resistance against neocolonial forces associated with the French government, as well as a Christian resistance against Islamic terrorism. In an era marked by an unprecedented refugee crisis and ongoing, seemingly unending, borderland conflicts, foreign correspondents could play a pivotal role in helping create a global public sphere that incorporates the perspectives of those who are most effected by ongoing resource-fueled wars—and least powerful. Chapter 1 is an ethnography of listening at Cetacea Lab, a whale research station where conservation actors listen for humpback whales to produce scientific evidence to oppose development. The chapter considers how institutions shape ways of listening—including through a “late style” listening mode with a rich history up and down the coast. It notes how whale song at Cetacea Lab presents both a viable model of scientific research and an aesthetic engagement connected to broad legacies of human exploitation—the two working to secure a regional conservationism also premised on neocolonial erasur
