Abstract:
Neocrex erythrops (Sclater, 1867), Paint-billed Crake, is a difficult bird to find and has few, scattered records spread over Brazil. The state of Espírito Santo has only one documented record of this species, which is based on a specimen collected in 1940. After 76 years since this first and only record, we present new records of N. erythrops from Espírito Santo. The new data increase the knowledge of this species in the state.

The geographical ranges of many bird species are neither uniform nor continuous. Species that are common in some regions may be rare in others, or their status of occurrence may be uncertain. Here, we present the first documented record of Azure Gallinule (<em>Porphyrio flavirostris</em>) as well as details and discussion on the distribution and status of previous records of the Least Bittern (<em>Ixobrychus exilis</em>), Paint-billed Crake (<em>Neocrex erythrops</em>), and Plain-breasted Ground-dove (<em>Columbina minuta</em>) in the Brazilian state of Acre. We present new distribution records of birds from Ecuador that have been evaluated by the Committee for Ecuadorian Records in Ornithology (CERO) between October 2019 and November 2021. We incorporate records of three new species in the national list: Hydrocoloeus minutus and Pterodroma externa from Galapagos, and Tachycineta leucorrhoa from mainland Ecuador. In addition, we include documented records of rare or infrequent species in mainland Ecuador, the Galapagos archipelago and the country’s territorial sea, which include seven species considered hypothetical, rare, and erratic throughout Ec

This study investigated the effects of (–)-epicatechin (Epi) in young male borderline hypertensive rats (BHR) during two weeks of treatment (Epi group, 100 mg/kg/day p.o.) and two weeks post treatment (PE group). Epi reduced blood pressure (BP), which persisted for two weeks post treatment. This was associated with delayed reduction of anxiety-like behaviour. Epi significantly increased nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activities in the aorta and left heart ventricle (LHV) vs. the age-matched controls without affecting the brainstem and frontal neocortex. Furthermore, Epi significantly reduced the

Summary We review the conservation status of two small rail species breeding in the Galápagos Islands: the endemic Galápagos Rail Laterallus spilonota and the native Paint-billed Crake Neocrex erythrops, widely distributed on the South American mainland. Using distance sampling with point counts, we estimated population sizes across islands with suitable habitat from 2015 to 2025. In 2022, we reassessed long-term trends for the Galápagos Rail on Santa Cruz Island, following the monitoring protocol used in earlier censuses (1986, 2000, 2007). We estimated the Galápagos Rail population at 32,300
