Abstract:
Fungal infections in the neonatal population are caused predominantly by Candida species and invasive fungal disease mainly affects extremely low birth weight infants. The vast majority of Candida infections are due to C. albicans and C. parapsilosis, while the more fluconazole-resistant Candida species are only sporadically observed.
