Trotz Verbes

Abstract:
Background and purpose Malignant conditions of the pelvis and/or abdomen can cause ureteric obstruction and associated impaired renal function, which can be managed by performing percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) tube insertion. Nephrostomy tubes are associated with prolonged hospital stay which affects quality of life. The main objective of this study was to assess the changes in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) over the first six months following percutaneous nephrostomy for malignant ureteric obstruction. We also explored the role of UTIs in the changes of eGFR following PCN.

Transrectal and transvaginal approaches for abscess drainage can be safer than other approaches but may cause greater patient discomfort at the time of placement. Achieving optimal anesthesia can be difficult in certain situations, particularly when using a transvaginal or transrectal approach. By using a side port adapter and a high-quality 3-cc syringe, operators can provide additional anesthetic while using the Seldinger technique. This method allows for additional anesthetic to be placed in the vaginal cuff, thus allowing a greater number of transvaginal procedures to be performed with mod

A posterior calyx is the preferred point of entry into the urinary collecting system during percutaneous nephrostomy procedures. Although ultrasonographic guidance is the preferred modality to gain this initial access, confident identification of a posterior calyx can be challenging using sonography alone, particularly in obese patients without hydronephrosis. In this setting, air or carbon dioxide can be introduced into the prone patient’s collecting system in order to fluoroscopically guide a confident puncture of the posterior calyx of the renal collecting system. Renal colic is the most common non-obstetric cause for abdominal pain and hospitalization during pregnancy. Ureteric stones occur in about 1 in 2,000 pregnancies, most (>80%) in the second and third trimesters. Primary management concerns are diagnostic foetal radiation exposure and the potential for adverse perinatal events arising either from the stone or from intervention. Indications for intervention are the same as for the non-pregnant patient, but are influenced by obstetric circumstances.
