It was fairly often observed that Fagus silvatica L. leafed twice during one vegetational season. This secondary growth occurred on all trees, when the first leaves underwent destruction, e.g. in consequence of late spring frost. The leaves of secondary growth differed pronouncedly from normally developed ones by their shape and irregular nervation and were similar to the juvenile leaves of one-year-old seedlings of beech. Observations of leaf buds showed that the nerves appeared in leaf-primordia of Fagus silvatica as late as the latter part of July a

Geographical characteristics of these rivers, and various rivers at the margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (Jialing, Minjiang, Dadu, Yalong and Jinsha) are summarized from field investigations along with digital elevation model (DEM) analyses and satellite images. The oeuvre of Sunčanica Tuk consists of pulsating, restless factures, composed of vertical, always different moves systematized in sequences, with paint often oozing from them owing to their nervation and pulsation. Her opus is a truly subtle and cultivated self-analysis, a sublime psychogram, something that transforms the artist’s mental state into an immediate human trace, suitable, as the painter says, “for the deepest contemplative dive” into the secrets of her undoubtedly spiritually rich being, for expressing her complex psychic constellation and mental tensions, neuralgia, even drama –

This paper provides the basics for more detailed research on the structures of bionic forms of different plant species and their application in the domain of landscape planning. The aim of this type of research is to expand knowledge of landscape planning with a deeper understanding of different geometric relations present in the existing natural forms. The correlation between structures in nature and structures that are present in contemporary landscape architecture could be established by the congruence with the geometric models from landscape. This paper is focused solely on the geometry of

OBJECTIVE: To test the application of the nerve-muscle pedicle (NMP) technique for selective rein-nervation of previously denervated posterior cricoarytenoid (PCA) muscle. METHODS: The left recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) was severed in 5 mongrel dogs, and an ansa cervicalis-sternohyoid muscle pedicle was sutured to the left PCA muscle. Three dogs underwent a sham operation. Videolaryngoscopy was performed, and electromyographic data were collected after 1 year on average. Finally, histologic analysis of the NMP was performed. RESULTS: The video records showed the return of mobility of the PCA

The asymmetrical leaf of Begonia raises both biological and mathematical questions. The leaf organogenesis of two species of Begonia is analyzed in this study, one with asymmetrical, palmately nerved leaves, Begonia scabrida A.DC, the other with quasi-symmetrical, pinnately nerved leaves, Begonia radicans Vellozo. Additional observations on Begonia fagifolia Fischer, a species of the second type, are included for comparison. In the three species studied, the leaf primordia are asymmetrical at initiation, notwithstanding mature leaf symmetry or nervation. In B. radicans, the leaf is asymmetrica

Sorghum brevicallosum is reduced to a synonym of S. timorense, which also includes S. australiense. Four previously established, subgenera are accepted with modified circumscriptions and floristic compositions. On morphological evidence, subgenus Stiposorghum represents the most advanced members and subgenus Para-Sorghum the most primitive. Some taxa are polymorphic; others exhibit unique features.
