Abstract:
The fauna of the bryocorine plant bug tribe Dicyphini in eastern Asia (including Japan, Korea, Russian Far East and Taiwan) is reviewed, with emphasis on the genus Nesidiocoris Kirkaldy, which is rediagnosed and discussed. Twelve species in six genera are now recognized. Three new species of Nesidiocoris are described from Japan: Nesidiocoris nozakianus sp. n., N. okinawanus sp. n. and N. simotukensis sp. n. Nesidiocoris poppiusi (Carvalho) is proposed as a junior synonym of N. tenuis, and N. plebejus (Poppius) is transferred to Singhalesia China & Carvalho. An annotated checklist and a ke

Natural predators such as Nesidiocoris tenuis are known for their role in managing greenhouse pests. However, techniques in maximizing the biological control potential of N. tenuis under field conditions are still lacking. We evaluated under greenhouse conditions the prospects of Artemia cysts enhanced with high fructose corn syrup and honey, and delivered using hemp strings (hemp rope) as supplementary factitious dietary in augmenting the proliferation and spread of N. tenuis on tomato plants. The silverleaf whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) and the South America tomato pinworm (Tuta absoluta) are two of the most destructive pests of tomato. Open-field tomato production frequently relies on chemical treatments, which has been shown to lead to pesticide resistance. The integration of biological control using predatory mirid bugs is an effective alternative method for managing these pests. However, methods to establish and maintain populations of zoophytophagous mirids are not adequately described.
