Abstract:
This paper provides a selective review of the emerging research field of net-based knowledge communication in groups. The review is conceptualized around three problems that designers of net-based knowledge communication will face (cluttering of content, lack of interpersonal information, and lack of sequential structure), and provides examples of how the corresponding barriers can be overcome. It is discussed how scenarios of net-based knowledge communication can even surpass the levels of face-to-face communication if the design relies on strengths of computer technologies (permanent storage, representational flexibility, and computational power), and if the communication among participants is complemented and augmented by meaningful interactions with computer tools.

Abstract:
Electronic mail and electronic communications systems are considered significant and effective tools of communication. One of the most widespread electronic communication tools is e - mail communication. In order to avoid misinterpretation of the report on the side of the recipient, it is need to pay attention to the writing of e - mail messages as well as to their content. With the continuous expansion of the use of electronic communication there have gradually developed certain rules of etiquette in electronic communications. The existing rules of the propriety ones are expressed in the term " etiqutte " and are not automatically applied in the new communications environment - media. For electronic communication, the new rules of etiquette have been stabilised into a term NETIQUETTE. The word netiquette was created by combining words NET (net) and ETIKETA (a set of rules of social behavior and habits). Netiquette constitutes the rules of the behavior of users on a network. Although the netiquette is merely "an unwritten set of rules", their not using can be understood as a type of disrespect. Analysis of knowledge of domestic and foreign sources as well as results of a survey confirmed the justification of paying attention to the education of individuals in NETIQUETTE, irrespective of the degree of education.

Full text
Abstract:
This licentiate thesis focuses on how to design a robust and flexible environment for net-based learning. The environment is required to be scalable for large groups, robust over lossy networks, flexible to meet different learning scenarios, and support interactivity. The mStar environment presented in this thesis has been developed to meet these requirements. The environment is scalable through the use of IP multicast and a server-less design. Robustness is achieved by separating traffic by loss tolerance, where traffic that accept no loss uses a reliable multicast protocol and traffic that can accept some loss uses repair techniques. To enhance robustness even further, network resource management is suggested. Everything from small group meetings to large lectures is supported, which together with the possibility to use the tools asynchronously gives the flexibility needed. The tools in the environment are fully symmetric, which allows everyone equal access and thus supports full interactivity. Students using the mStar environment is no longer bound by physical distance, since they can easily take part of lectures, seminars and group discussions electronically. They can also be connected via not multicast enabled low bandwidth networks, since they can tunnel concentrated traffic to thir local hosts. The students are also less bound by time, as they can use the mMOD system to access recorded sessions or the WWW to access course information.

Abstract:
Energy is a key resource in Networked Control Systems, in particular in applications concerning wireless networks. This thesis investigates how to save energy in wireless sensor nodes with control and communication co-Design. This thesis reviews existing techniques and approaches that are used to save energy from a communication and a control point of view. This review is organized according to the layered communication architecture covering from bottom to top the Physical, Data Link, Network, and Application layers. Then, from the conclusion that the radio chip is an important energy consumer, a joint radio-Mode management and feedback law policy is derived. The radio-Mode management exploits the capabilities of the radio chip to switch to low consuming radio-Modes to save energy, and to adapt the transmission power to the channel conditions. This results in an event-Based control scheme where the system runs open loop at certain time. A natural trade-Off appears between energy savings and control performance. The joint policy is derived in the framework of Optimal Control with the use of Dynamic Programming. This thesis solves the optimal problem in both infinite and finite horizon cases. Stability of the closed loop system is investigated with Input-To-State Stability framework. The main conclusion of this thesis, also shown in simulation, is that cross-Layer design in Networked Control System is essential to save energy in the wireless nodes

Patriksson, Andreas. "Net Neutrality - Do We Care? : A study regarding Swedish consumers' point-of-view upon Net Neutrality."

Full text
Abstract:
Net Neutrality implicates that all data being transmitted online is treated equal by Internet Service Providers. In 2016, the public debate regarding Net Neutrality in Sweden started growing as two major Mobile Network Operators were investigated by the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority for violation of European Union Net Neutrality regulations. Several studies have been conducted regarding Net Neutrality, most of them written in a legal, financial or technological perspective. This study takes another direction, aimed at understanding the consumer’s point of view regarding Net Neutrality. This study investigates whether or not consumers are aware of the subject and if so, how they value it. To measure this, an online survey was constructed, containing a total of 12 questions and statements. 77 people participated in the survey and out of these, 10 people participated in qualitative follow-up interviews. The interviews were semi-structured and individually designed according to each participant’s answers in the survey. This was done in order to gain a deeper understanding of the consumer’s reasoning while answering the survey. The results show that consumers lack knowledge regarding Net Neutrality. A major part of the consumers had not heard of the term or did not know the meaning of it, making it hard to determine whether or not the consumers value NN. However, when given a more concrete example of the implications of Internet Traffic Management from ISPs, the participants had a better understanding of what kind of implications NN could have on their Internet usage. They valued the implications of Net Neutrality, even though they did not know the theory of the term itself. The study also revealed that consumers have a big confidence in National Regulatory Authorities when it comes to looking after the openness of the Internet. Therefore, it is likely that National Regulatory Authorities must inform and educate consumers in the matter of Net Neutrality for them to value it and see its long-term implications.

Abstract:
The thesis follows a path between the theories of collective action and digital communications to develop an analysis of the meanings of mobilization in reticular contexts or net-activism. Based on the presented theories we will try to arrange a line of interpretation that makes those two fields converge to the understanding of the meaning of net-activism so that, afterwards, we can achieve two purposes: first, present a map of the main net-activism\'s actions in Brazil and around the world. Then, contribute to the development of a theory that beholds the different approaches of mobilizations net-activists to understand their meaning and their relation to the conventional approaches of political action.

Abstract:
The work targets the very important part of service oriented architecture -- web services. It is focused at one of its practical implementation, from the Microsoft Corporation, especially in the last two releases of .NET Framework. The main target of this work is comprehensive summary and demonstration of Microsoft web services development. The principles of web services and their base in the .NET Framework are described here. At the beginning of this work the web services are put into the scope of service oriented architecture and their main principles are described. Subsequently the .NET Framework is explained with its main principles and with the comparison to the JAVA technology. This part is finished with the explanation of classic ASMX web services. The main part of this work focuses at detailed description of the theoretical and practical aspects of web services in the Windows Communication Foundation and the Windows Workflow Foundation context. Even the development of Windows Forms application is not left out, because they also have done a large progress and they are often consumers of web services. The options of securing web services in the .NET Framework are shown both theoretically and practically including authentication and authorization. The methods of transactional behavior are shown too. The work also focuses at the orchestration of web services including the explanation of workflows with the deployment example. At the end of the work there is revealed how to guarantee interoperability with other technologies, how to manage web services and how to ensure their versioning.

Abstract:
With the increase in the amount of data and the expansion of model scale, distributed parallel training becomes an important and successful technique to address the optimization challenges. Nevertheless, although distributed stochastic gradient descent (SGD) algorithms can achieve a linear iteration speedup, they are limited significantly in practice by the communication cost, making it difficult to achieve a linear time speedup. In this paper, we propose a computation and communication decoupled stochastic gradient descent (CoCoD-SGD) algorithm to run computation and communication in parallel to reduce the communication cost. We prove that CoCoD-SGD has a linear iteration speedup with respect to the total computation capability of the hardware resources. In addition, it has a lower communication complexity and better time speedup comparing with traditional distributed SGD algorithms. Experiments on deep neural network training demonstrate the significant improvements of CoCoD-SGD: when training ResNet18 and VGG16 with 16 Geforce GTX 1080Ti GPUs, CoCoD-SGD is up to 2-3 x faster than traditional synchronous SGD.
