Abstract:
“One-pot regeneration”, which is simple regneneration method of ammonia borane (AB) using hydrazine and liquid ammonia, enables conversion of AB from hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) after milling hydrogenation. Solution 11B-NMR revealed the presence of AB after NH3/N2H4 treatment of milled h-BN (BNHx) although the yield of AB was less than 5%. The conversion mechanism was clarified as B-H bonds on the h-BN surface created by ball-milling under hydrogen pressure have an ability to form AB, which was confirmed by Thermogravimetry-Residual Gas Analysis (TG-RGA) and Infrared (IR) analysis. The reaction routes are also the same as regeneration route of polyborazylene because intermediates of AB such as (B(NH2)3 and hydrazine borane were found by solution 11B-NMR after soaking BNHx in liquid NH3 and hydrazine, respectively. Because of the fact that all reactions proceed on the h-BN surface and no reaction proceeds when neat h-BN is treated, breaking of B3N3 ring structure and then creation of B-H bond is the key issue to increase conversion yield of AB.

Abstract:
We enumerate trivalent reticulations of two- and three-periodic hyperbolic surfaces by equal-sided n -gonal faces, ( n , 3), where n = 7, 8, 9, 10, 12. These are the simplest hyperbolic generalizations of the planar graphene net, (6, 3) and dodecahedrane, (5, 3). The enumeration proceeds by deleting isometries of regular reticulations of two-dimensional hyperbolic space until the ( n , 3) nets can be embedded in euclidean three-space via periodic hyperbolic surfaces. Those nets are then symmetrized in euclidean space retaining their net topology, leading to explicit crystallographic net embeddings whose edges are as equal as possible, affording candidtae patterns for graphitic schwarzites. The resulting schwarzites are the most symmetric examples. More than one hundred topologically distinct nets are described, most of which are novel.

Abstract:
Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) represent the networks consisting of DNA, histones, and proteins produced by activated neutrophils. Such structures have been proved to play a crucial role in inducing neutrophil innate immune response in the pathogenesis of such autoimmune conditions as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, as well as in the pathogenesis of other non-infectious processes, e. g., clotting disorders, thrombosis, diabetes, atherosclerosis, vasculitis and oncology diseases. Recent studies on animal models and human pathologies have uncovered a tremendous role for NETs in tumor progression and metastasis. In this regard, NETs should be considered as pro-oncogenic substances, which further investigation will provide an opportunity to develop new therapeutic strategies.

Abstract:
Software process dynamics challenge the capabilities of process-centered software engineering environments. Dynamic task nets represent evolving software processes by hierarchically organized nets of tasks which are connected by control, data, and feedback flows. Project managers operate on dynamic task nets in order to assess the current status of a project, trace its history, perform impact analysis, handle feedback, adapt the project plan to changed product structures, etc. Developers are supported through task agendas and provision of tools and documents. Chained tasks may be executed in parallel (simultaneous engineering), and cooperation is controlled through releases of document versions. Dynamic task nets are formally specified by a programmed graph rewriting system. Operations on task nets are specified declaratively by graph rewrite rules at a high level of abstraction. Furthermore, editing, analysis, and execution steps on a dynamic task net, which may be interleaved seamlessly, are described in a uniform formalism.

Abstract:
The aim of the research domain known as process mining is to use process discovery to construct a process model as an abstract representation of event logs. The goal is to build a model (in terms of a Petri net) that can reproduce the logs under consideration, and does not allow different behaviours compared with those shown in the logs. In particular, process mining aims to verify the accuracy of the model design (represented as a Petri net), basically checking whether the same net can be rediscovered. However, the main mining methods proposed in the literature have some drawbacks: the classical α-algorithm is unable to rediscover various nets, while the region-based approach, which can mine them correctly, is too complex. In this paper, we compare different approaches and propose some ideas to counter the weaknesses of the region-based approach.

Based on the workflow management coalition (WFMC) standard and component software technologies, this paper addresses our Petri-nets-based approach for workflow and process automation. Petri nets provide graphical and mathematical formalisms for work-flow process definition and analysis. In this paper, we will present how to use Petri nets and a toolkit NCUPN (National Central University Petri Nets toolkit) for process definition and analysis. NCUPN is a Petri nets modeling and analysis toolkit developed to help software engineers in drawing and doing analysis. Once a workflow process is drawn using NCUPN, analysis can be done automatically. In this paper, we will demonstrate how to use NCUPN to analyze behavioral properties of workflow process, such as deadlock, liveness, safety, and starvation.

Abstract:
Autogenous dentin has been reported to be a suitable grafting material for certain indications. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of using endodontically treated teeth for this application. In the present retrospective study, one-stage augmentation of lateral ridge defects with a dentin shell and particulate (tooth shell technique (TST)) either obtained from endodontically treated teeth (ETT, 17 patients with 21 implants) or non-endodontically treated teeth (NETT, 17 patients with 24 implants) were analyzed. Follow-up was conducted 3 months after augmentation. The target parameters were biological complications, horizontal hard tissue loss, osseointegration, and the integrity of the buccal lamella. Only minor complications occurred in three implants from three patients, including two cases of wound dehiscence (one each in ETT and NETT) and a localized three-walled defect in the NETT group, which was solved by re-augmentation. All the implants were osseointegrated and the integrity of the buccal lamella was preserved. The mean difference of the resorption of the crestal width and the buccal lamella did not differ statistically between the two groups. As TST using ETT showed, the results comparable to those of NETT dentin from endodontically treated teeth can be safely applied with predictable results for this grafting technique.

Abstract:
A LCA (life cycle assessment) scheme for any industrial activity system is introduced to estimate the quantitative load on the environment with the aid of the NETS (numerical environment total standard) method proposed by the authors as a numerical measure. Two kinds of environmental loads respecting fossil fuel depletion as input resources to the system and global warming due to CO2 emission as output are taken into account in the present eco-criterion, in which the total eco-load (EcL) value is calculated from the summation of respective environmental load factors on the whole process in a life cycle of the system. This NETS method is applied to eco-management co-generation systems, in which a computer-aided output navigator proceeds the LCA estimation with ICON and Q&A communication. An operation scheme most friendly to the environment with a minimum EcL value, i.e., an eco-operation scheme, is derived from the optimization theory.

Abstract:
Software processes are usually described by guidelines and advices. These guidelines are claimed to be valid for many projects. This understanding leads to software processes which deviate from initial plans and which frequently yield insufficient results. System-atic management of software processes can help to overcome these shortcomings. In this paper, we introduce an incremental approach to software process management. This approach covers the complete life-cycle of software process models, i.e., it deals with software process modeling, software process model analysis, and software process model enaction. It is based on a net-based software process modeling language called FUNSOFT nets. FUNSOFT nets are high-level Petri nets adapted to the application domain of software process management. We model software processes by means of different views onto a software process model. Our approach is implemented in a software process management environment called MELMAC.

Abstract:
Integrated Information Theory (IIT) is most typically applied to Boolean Nets, a state transition model in which system parts cooperate by sharing state variables. By contrast, in Process Algebra, whose semantics can also be formulated in terms of (labeled) state transitions, system parts—“processes”—cooperate by sharing transitions with matching labels, according to interaction patterns expressed by suitable composition operators. Despite this substantial difference, questioning how much additional information is provided by the integration of the interacting partners above and beyond the sum of their independent contributions appears perfectly legitimate with both types of cooperation. In fact, we collect statistical data about ϕ —integrated information—relative to pairs of boolean nets that cooperate by three alternative mechanisms: shared variables—the standard choice for boolean nets—and two forms of shared transition, inspired by two process algebras. We name these mechanisms α , β and γ . Quantitative characterizations of all of them are obtained by considering three alternative execution modes, namely synchronous, asynchronous and “hybrid”, by exploring the full range of possible coupling degrees in all three cases, and by considering two possible definitions of ϕ based on two alternative notions of distribution distance.

Abstract:
Abstract We continuously recorded temperatures of the nest cup (Tn) and air (Ta) just outside the nest box throughout development of Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) chicks in east-central Minnesota. Brood size was manipulated (three or six chicks per nest) to study the effect of number of chicks in the nest on its thermal environment. From day 0 to day 4, Tn paralleled Ta, approximately 2–7°C higher, with nocturnal Tn maintained at 24°C and daytime Tn maintained at 26°C. From day 6 to day 12, Tn was relatively constant throughout the day, maintained at 32°C (day) and 29°C (night). The Tn became increasingly independent of Ta, as determined by regression analysis of Tn versus Ta with age. Nocturnal Tn of larger clutches (six chicks) was ∼2°C warmer than smaller clutches (three chicks), and Tn of larger clutches exhibited greater independence from Ta at day 10 than in smaller clutches. The occurrence of nest homeothermy at day 10 in six-chick nests correlates with near-maximal body mass of chicks and completion of feather insulation. Small (three-chick) clutches showed greater dependence of Tn on Ta at 10–12 days of age than large (six-chick) clutches; we propose that development of thermoregulatory capacity may have proceeded more slowly in chicks from those nests.

Abstract:
A hierarchical decomposition of decision process Petri nets for modeling complex systemsWe provide a framework for hierarchical specification called Hierarchical Decision Process Petri Nets (HDPPNs). It is an extension of Decision Process Petri Nets (DPPNs) including a hierarchical decomposition process that generates less complex nets with equivalent behavior. As a result, the complexity of the analysis for a sophisticated system is drastically reduced. In the HDPPN, we represent the mark-dynamic and trajectory-dynamic properties of a DPPN. Within the framework of the mark-dynamic properties, we show that the HDPPN theoretic notions of (local and global) equilibrium and stability are those of the DPPN. As a result in the trajectory-dynamic properties framework, we obtain equivalent characterizations of that of the DPPN for final decision points and stability. We show that the HDPPN mark-dynamic and trajectory-dynamic properties of equilibrium, stability and final decision points coincide under some restrictions. We propose an algorithm for optimum hierarchical trajectory planning. The hierarchical decomposition process is presented under a formal treatment and is illustrated with application examples.

Abstract:
Continuous flow systems for hydrogenation using polysilane-supported palladium/alumina (Pd/(PSi–Al2O3)) hybrid catalysts were developed. Our original Pd/(PSi–Al2O3) catalysts were used successfully in these systems and the hydrogenation of unsaturated C–C bonds and a nitro group, deprotection of a carbobenzyloxy (Cbz) group, and a dehalogenation reaction proceeded smoothly. The catalyst retained high activity for at least 8 h under neat conditions.

Abstract:
Processes concerning the diagnosis and treatment of patients cannot be straightjacketed into traditional production-like workflows. They can be best characterized as weakly-connected interacting light-weight workflows where tasks reside at different levels of granularity, and for each individual patient a doctor proceeds in a step-by-step way deciding what next steps be taken. Classical workflow notations fall short in supporting these patient processes as they have been designed to support monolithic processes. Classical notations (WF-nets (work flow nets), BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation), EPCs (Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances), etc.) assume that a workflow process can be modeled by specifying the life-cycle of a single case in isolation. To address these problems, the authors present an extension of the Proclets framework which allows for dividing complex entangled processes into simple autonomous fragments. Additionally, increased emphasis is placed on interaction related aspects such that fragment instances for individual patients can cooperate in any desired way. The authors describe an implementation of the Proclets framework. Proclets have been added to the open-source Workflow Management System YAWL to better support inter-workflow support functionalities.

Abstract:
Abstract Achieving a proper balance between enforcing the constitution and avoiding that the courts exercise a policy-making function that that is better left to legislatures is not without its difficulties. In the United States, this issue has gained substantially higher traction giving rise to intense activism talk. The relevant American literature has exerted a deep fascination abroad, also in the light of the current globalization of constitutional discourse. Yet, the article intends to advance two claims: first, it warns against an uncritical import of US-style notions of judicial activism to continental Europe; second, it argues that contemporary research on comparative judicial activism currently has low explanatory utility. The first section takes a glimpse of the relevant US literature ‒ both legal and empirical ‒ to shed light on the multidimensional essence of the concept. Section 2 proceeds to articulate three sets of tentative reasons why activism talk should be ʻhandled with careʼ. These reasons pivot on considerations around structure, culture, and type of decisions in continental Europe. After parsing out each aspect, an argument is made that US-style judicial activism is too dependent on the US form of government; too divisive and as such unsuitable to the different European legal professional culture; and misleading, as the way European constitutional courts display activism in their decisions is distinctive. Ultimately, the article argues for the avoidance of US-style notions of judicial activism in European constitutional discourse.

Abstract:
The complexity of the continuous type processes involved in the power industry, typically involving a large number of parameters and equations, combined with the discrete type of the controls of the installation, necessitate the introduction of hybrid modelling procedures. Although hybrid Petri nets (HPN) have been introduced for this purpose, they still present limitations in modelling such complex situations. For this reason, they are properly combined with another type of Petri nets - the interpreted Petri nets - in order to take into account the external events also, resulting either from the environment or from the actions of the control system. The resulting combined theoretical analysis framework leads to the concept of hybrid interpreted Petri nets. This framework is then applied to model the lignite bunker filling process of an actual power plant, indicating an efficient and flexible behaviour, during both the normal, and the fault handling operation of the system.

Abstract:
The Candida antarctica lipase B-catalyzed reactions of five β-amino esters with neat butyl butanoate and with 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl butanoate in diisopropyl ether were studied, as were the reactions of the same β-amino esters and their N-butanamides with neat butanol. The possibility for sequential resolution, where the amino and ester functions of the substrate both react with an achiral butanoate, became less likely with increasing size of the substrate from ethyl 3-aminobutanoate (1a) to pentanoate (1b) or larger. On the other hand, the alcoholyses of N-acylated β-amino esters successfully proceeded in butanol with E > 100. Gram-scale resolution of the N-butanoylated 1a was performed to demonstrate the usefulness of the method. Key words: lipase, interesterification, acylation, alcoholysis, resolution, β-amino esters.
