AbstractIn 1936, the Bauhaus-trained architect Ernst Neufert published the first edition of his seminal book Bau-Entwurfslehre. One of the most successful architecture books to date, the encyclopedic volume offered dimensioned floor plans for architectural tasks ranging from bunkers to dog kennels to Zeppelins. Two years later, Neufert started working as ‘norm expert’ for Reichsminister Albert Speer, with whom he published another manual in 1943, Bauordnungslehre. Meant to provide a total system of measures for architecture at large, the volume subjected building blocks, bricks and human bodies to Neufert's all-encompassing octametric system. This article contrasts these two books against Neufert's unpublished treatise – ‘Lebensgestaltungslehre’. Never a bound volume, the latter was sketched out in diary entries between 1936 and 1942 on folded DIN A4 sheets (themselves normed) and organized in a card index. Reading them across their medial states, this article investigates the material, methodological and ideological character of Neufert's Lehren. This is not the story of a handbook; rather, this is a story of constructing Lehre one sheet at a time. Neufert's attempt to format German society in the 1930s and 1940s through inherently architectural means such as floor plans, norms and a system of measures ultimately shaped the designing subject – starting with himself.

Abstract:
AbstractAs a result of his highly successful publication Bauentwurfslehre (1936), Ernst Neufert presented a system of measurement that he claimed had universal validity, his so called octameter system in 1941. Every necessary dimension is expressed as a multiple or a fraction of the basic unit of 12.5 cm. He stated that once the design process, the schedules of rooms and many other parameters would become rational and efficient.Moreover, the question is to what extent the octameter system constitutes a set of rules in the sense of Vitruvian order. Can architecture become legible in the mechanisms of form-making that the system practices? Is the octameter system useful in the communication of meaning or criticism, or is its effectiveness limited to simplifying construction procedures by pursuing standardization and serialization of architectural production?Neufert’s system became widely disseminated. The architecture faculty building at the University of Innsbruck is an example: it demonstrates how thoroughly Neufert’s octameter division was applied to the finest detail, as a universal frame of reference. Thereby it becomes clear that Neufert’s norm is indeed in a position to transfer formal origination into the realm of cultural action.

Esse trabalho é um estudo prático sobre conforto e funcionalidade de ambientes. Seus principais objetivos são: apresentar um panorama de como são desenvolvidos os projetos da maioria dos apartamentos em Jaraguá do Sul SC; resgatar os conceitos necessários para o desenvolvimento de projetos funcionais, estéticos e com ambientes confortáveis; desenvolver um projeto de um edifício de apartamentos com ambientes funcionais, confortáveis e estéticos; avaliá lo e compará lo com um projeto convencional. No estudo dos conceitos e princípios necessários para o desenvolvimento do projeto foi confirmada a necessidade de ordenar os espaços em referência ao homem e às suas necessidades. Com base no princípio de estética observado por Meneghetti e na lógica de funcionalidade exposta por Neufert, buscou se desenvolver um projeto no mesmo terreno onde já havia sido implantado um edifício concebido sem atenção a esses princípios. A análise buscou desenvolver um projeto funcional e confortável, obteve se um melhor aproveitamento do terreno, uma melhor relação custo/benefício e maior lucro e principalmente, um melhor ambiente, mais confortável e funcional aos clientes.
