It has been reported that METH can induce neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration in animal brain. Nevertheless, the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which METH induces neurotoxicity remain unclear. In a previous study, it was found that 250 μg/mL of METH induced mitochondrial membrane potential loss, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, mitochondrial mass increase, cell viability decrease in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. Our lab previously found that zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) can get into brain via olfactory translocation. This study investigated if ZnO-NPs modulating Zn2+ homeostasis to manipulate cytoviability in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. ZnO-NPs was labeled with fluorescein (F-ZnO) and the cytosolic entrance of F-ZnO was monitored by confocal microscopy. Lysotracker was used to localize lysosom

The processing of namyloid precursor protein (APP) is initiated by beta-site APP cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) cleavage, which produce beta-cleaved C-terminal fragment (C99), and then further cleaved by γ-secretase leads to amyloid β-peptide (Aβ)formation. Generation and deposition of Aβ is central to the aetiology of AD. Herein, BACE1 is a rate-limiting enzyme in the production of Aβ. Consequently, the enzyme activity, mRNA and protein levels of BACE1 are elevated in AD patie

Tau is a microtubule-associated protein which plays an important role in microtubule assembly and stability. GSK-3b regulates tau by phosphorylation as well as by regulating splice variance. Hyperphosphorylated tau has less affinity toward the microtubules and disrupting microtubule stability. By bioinformatics analysis, we found that WWOX has three GSK3β binding motifs, FXXXLI/VXRLE.
