Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has become a powerful and effective tool to deal with violence in many at-risk areas in the world. However, its use for gender-based violence (GBV) and dating violence, although promising, has been limited and used as a response service for survivors, rather than for prevention. To understand to what extent such interventions can help provide tools and skills to young people in their impressionable years to produce behavioral changes that prevent GBV, we carried out such an intervention among high school students in the municipality of Ecatepec in Mexico. Abstract:
This paper examines how the act of giving advice to others can serve as a tool for self-persuasion in high-stakes decisions. We tested this hypothesis in Perus nationwide teacher selection process, involving over 74,000 candidates. By prompting teachers to advise peers on selecting schools for maximum educational impact, we observe a significant shift in their own choices: an increased probability of choosing and being assigned to hard-to-staff schools, institutions serving disadvantaged areas that are typically understaffed. In line with recent literature on behavioral sciences, our findings

Abstract:
Digital financial inclusion is important to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Digital financial tools, such as mobile money, can, in principle, be used by anyone with a cell phone. Mobile money and services surrounding mobile money can help reduce poverty by helping increase remittances from labour migrants, helping households to weather negative shocks to income, and encouraging investments such as in farms or in self-employment activities. An extension of this logic is that, in refugee hosting areas, digital financial inclusion through mobile money can potentially play a role in i

This study investigates the impact of social media reels and short videos, particularly on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, on the self-esteem and social behavior of Bangladeshi teenagers. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, we conducted in-depth interviews with 15 participants, including 13 teenagers, an educator, and a social media expert from urban areas in Bangladesh. The findings reveal that exposure to curated, idealized content on these platforms fosters social comparison, contributing to lowered self-esteem, especially among female participants. Do Black communities economically benefit from the election of a Black mayor? I find majority-Black ZIP codes experience gains in all areas of economic activity relative to non-Black communities following the first election of a Black mayor. Across industries, the number of establishments in majority-Black ZIP codes increases, including those that rely on foot traffic. Before breakthrough elections, Black residents are less likely than white residents to identify as self-employed across all cities, but this difference is reduced after an election; however, the cities in which the pre-breakthro

This report presents OVE's independent validation of the Expanded Project Supervision Reports fourth exercise (XPSRs), prepared by the Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF). The Evaluation Cooperation Group (ECG)'s guidelines require the preparation of the XPSR in the same year they reached Early Operating Maturity (EOM). SCF is still in noncompliance with this requirement since the current exercise validated the XPSRs of projects that reached EOM in 2010.
