Full textDiagnose is a way for society to describe and limit what is normal and socially acceptable. Diagnosis is also a social construction that often has a negative impact. People put labels on those with a diagnose and it is usually in a negative way and does not accept the deviant behavior that explains the diagnose. The purpose of this essay is to find out how adults with a diagnose experience benefits and cons of their diagnose. With the qualitative method has a semi-structured interviews been done. Three people have participated in the study and shared their experience about their neuropsychiatric diagnose. All three have a ADHD problem, one person have also been diagnose with Asperger. The result demonstrate how they feel about their diagnose and show that the belive it is better to be diagnose, than to live in uncertainty about what it is that make them behave in a certain way. One of the interviewed said "I know many who are ashamed that they have their diagnose and I also know who take advantage of their situation too, and that I don’t like. For a diagnose is a diagnose. It is a disability bit it’s about what you make of it"’

Assessment of adults with neuropsychiatric impairments have become more common in the beginning of the 21st century. Due to the extensive nature of the neuropsychiatric assessment procedure it is likely that the assessment will have an influence on the patients presenting problem. Despite this the authors have found only a few research studies on the subject. Some previous studies have shown other types assessments to pose an influence on symptoms. The main purpose of the present study is to investigate whether neuropsychiatric assessment poses an influence on symptoms and/or salutogenic factors. The present study uses a single case design with six patients from two separate neuropsychiatric units. The participants have been measured using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale and the Sense of Coherence Questionnaire. The results indicate that symptoms are alleviated and/or Sense of Coherence is promoted due to the assessment. The implications of these results suggest that closer co-operation between assessment and treatment centres is warranted and is likely to be beneficial to the patient in the sense of more useful assessments and more efficient treatments.

Full textMany adolescent students in Sweden go through the regular school system without attaining the goals for the final grade. Therefore, there is a great need for adult education. The folk high school offers an alternative pedagogical discourse in relation to the regular school system because of its lack of nationally governed curriculums. The general course is for those students who want to complete the courses missed or failed in their prior schooling. Studies show that 30 % of all students in the general course have neuropsychiatric disabilities and that these students often succeed in their studies at folk high schools. The overall aim of this thesis is to contribute with knowledge in the area of special education regarding adult students with neuropsychiatric disabilities and folk high schools. The study was conducted as a qualitative study where the empirical result was gathered by semi-structural interviews. The theoretical framework consisted of the socio-cultural perspective and the results were analyzed with regards to the theory views on learning. Students attending the general course at two different folk high schools were interviewed with the intent of them shedding some light onto what it is within the folk high school that contributes to successful studies. The thesis will also point out what students identified as the biggest differences between folk high school and the prior school forms they have attended. The results show that the factors students find most significant for their educational progress are; flexible and inclusive pedagogics, the relationship with teachers, the fellowship, the boarding school-aspects and the smaller study groups. The differences from other types of schools that are pointed out are a slower pace in studies and a social support that is offered at a larger extent in folk high school. The result is relevant for the area of special education as the factors that are pointed out could be of more importance in the education of special education teachers, but also play a larger role in the way tutoring of students with neuropsychiatric disabilities is organized.

Full textTitle: Rhythmic Movement Training as an alternative treatment –Parents to children with neuropsychiatric disabilities making a choice. The aim of the study was to investigate how parents to children with neuropsychiatric disabilities experience their opportunities when it comes to choosing treatment for their children. The quest was mainly to explore why they make the choice the way they do and why a specific treatment seem appealing to them. To reach the empirical result, interviews were made with four parents who chosen Rhythmic Movement Training as a treatment for their children. Interesting founds in the result was that the parents were against treatment by medicine, which was the reason they aimed for an alternative method. The professional approach also seemed like an important point in the choice of treatment.
