Polymeric electrochromic materials that has as one of the three complementary colors (red, green, and blue) in the neutral form and become transparent via oxidation (or reduction), has a crucial importance towards use of these materials in electrochromic devices and displays. To reflect red or blue color in neutral state, the materials have to absorb at only one dominant wavelength. On the contrary, to have a green color, there should exist at least two simultaneous absorption bands in the red and blue regions of the visible spectrum where these bands should be controlled with the same applied

This dissertation presents the results of several investigations into vibrational and rotational relaxation of neutral molecules at low temperatures. The use of the free jet flow reactor technique for production of very low local temperatures and the determination of relaxation data and derivation of rate coefficients are discussed. Four different molecules, HBr, CO, OH and OD, are examined in the free jet with various buffer gases to determine their vibrational and rotational relaxation properties. For HBr and CO, terminal rotational temperatures are measured in various buffer gases with the

We focus on the two-dimensional Falicov-Kimball model in the neutral case with U >> 0. We determine the ground state ion configurations for all rational densities in (1/3, 2/5), as well as densities 1/6 and 2/11. We also determine the ground states for a sequence of densities starting at 1/5 and converging to 0. On the interval (1/3, 2/5) we show that the ground states are periodic, having the same structure as the one-dimensional ground states. For densities between 1/6 and 2/11 we show that the ground states exhibit a phase separation.

Abstract:
This thesis considers the constitutional status under U.S. law of affirmative action measures that avoid explicitly classifying individuals on the basis of race (“facially neutral affirmative action”). It is particularly concerned with whether such measures constitute racial discrimination in the first instance, such that they would be subject to the strictest standard of judicial scrutiny. Two features distinguish facially neutral affirmative action from the paradigmatic understanding of unconstitutional racial discrimination: (1) as a form of affirmative action, such measures pursue an inclu

Abstract:
Small angle neutron scattering is a well known technique for studying the properties of solids at small but finite energies and momenta. In this work it has been applied to the study of the low energy properties of superconductors. The low transition temperature superconductors niobium and lead and the high transition temperature superconductor Y(_1)Ba(_2)Cu(_3)O(_7) have been investigated. The results indicate a temperature dependent excess scattering of around 150 mbam/sr/atom from Y(_1)Ba(_2)Cu(_3)O(_7) at wavevectors q of around 0.03 Å and an energy of less than 30 µeV. No such effect was

Abstract:
Radiative Decays of the phi-meson to the scalar mesons f0(980) and a0(980) are investigated within the framework of charged kaon loop model for both point-like scalar mesons and for scalar mesons with extended structure. Then, the radiative phi-meson decay into neutral K-meson is studied via a two step mechanism in which the scalar mesons couple the final state to the phi-meson through the charged kaon loop. The branching ratio of this decay is calculated and it is shown that this reaction will not provide a significant background to the measurements of phi-meson into neutral K-meson states

Abstract:
In this work, we are interested in Growth of Galton-Watson trees under two different models: (1) Galton-Watson (GW) forests with lifetimes and/or immigrants, and (2) Galton-Watson forests with mutation, which we call Galton-Watson-Clone-Mutant forests, or GWCMforests. Under each model, we study certain consistent families (Fλ)λ≥0 of GW/GWCM forests and associated decompositions that include backbone decomposition as studied by many authors. Specifically, consistency here refers to the property that for each μ ≤ λ, the forest Fμ has the same distribution as the subforest of Fλ spanned by the bl
