Full textUse of synthetic fibers of recycled polypropylene to control the fissures generated by retraction in concrete pavements in Lima. The retraction is a phenomenon that affects the setting process and the life of the concrete with the appearance of cracks; In recent years, studies and methods have been generated to mitigate and control it with the use of different products and methods. The development of road infrastructures with the use of concrete as a rolling folder requires methods to guarantee durability and reduce the effects of the efforts incorporated by the use, climatic conditions, support base and movement restrictions of the structure. Despite the knowledge of this phenomenon, there is little technical development to measure, study and control it. As described above, the need arises to investigate, expand knowledge and seek experimental methods to measure and understand the behavior of contraction in the concrete used in pavements. The academic research project seeks to evaluate the effects of recycled synthetic fibers of polypropylene in the contraction-plastic shrinkage tests (ASTM C 1579), and the preparation of 3 designs of mixtures with different ratios of recycled and virgin synthetic fibers is proposed. There are other methods of evaluation (free contraction and restricted contraction) to specify the effects of synthetic fibers in the appearance of cracks in plastic and hardened state, will be proposed to perform the demonstrations in future research

Full textThe most important pathological manifestations in the concrete blocks of the armed masonry are the efflorescence and the fissures; the former are aesthetic and the latter are structural. These pathologies are caused by the porosity of the block; which facilitates the entry of salts from the sea breeze and salt mist present in the marine atmosphere. These salts, as a result of the wind are dragged and deposited in homes built outside the sea. A solution to this problem is to use a material that minimizes the progress of fissures and cracks, such as sugar beet nanoplatelets (BNP); which are plant residues from the food industry. In the present investigation the study of cracked concrete blocks is approached, studying some mechanical, physical and chemical properties; the results show that with the addition of BNP the compressive strength increases, and the absorption and carbonation decrease when compared to concrete without nanoadditive.

Full textThis thesis is to demonstrate that it is possible to rehabilitate a supported reinforced concrete water reservoir with the presence of non-structural cracks using Textile Reinforced Mortar (TRM). For the development, one of the thirteen reservoirs that appear in the study for the expansion and improvement of the drinking water and sewerage systems of sectors 311, 313, 330, 310, 312, 314, 300, 307, was chosen as a sample. 319, 324, and 301 Nueva Rinconada, districts of San Juan de Miraflores, Villa María del Triunfo and Villa el Salvador. The selected reservoir is R -6A, which is approximately 30 years old and has a capacity of 750 m3. To propose the rehabilitation of the chosen structure, it was necessary to identify the origin of the failure, so in addition to the structural diagnosis obtained from the technical file of the profile, the structural configuration of the reservoir was obtained with the data taken in the field. In this way, the results found allowed to verify that the design proposed more than 30 years ago complies with the current regulations and it was verified that the failures that the reservoir presents are not structural. Likewise, the calculations allowed the location of the affected area to be known, information that was necessary to prepare the rehabilitation proposal with TRM. The alternative selected for the reservoir wall rehabilitation is the Textile Reinforced Mortar (TRM) system. In this thesis, the tests corresponding to this composite material were carried out and the procedure for rehabilitation is proposed, as well as the quality tests necessary to guarantee the appropriate use of this technology in constant development.

Full textConcrete is one of the most used materials in the world of construction, of which each material in the mixture depends on the strength required according to the structural analysis. Within the concrete production process, we must ensure that the cement reacts chemically and develops the resistance for which it was designed, for this it is important to keep it hydrated at that time through the curing process. A technique not yet so well known is the self-curing of concrete, so it is a necessity to know what its influence is in the development of resistance and in the reduction of the percentage of cracking of concrete in the plastic state. The objective of this thesis is to determine the influence of replacing a certain percentage of crushed brick as a replacement for coarse aggregate; evaluating the compressive strength, flexural strength, and cracking by plastic shrinkage of concrete. It was developed with 3 different percentages of crushed brick replacement that are: 15%, 21%, 27% of the weight of the coarse aggregate for the compressive strength (f’c) of 280 kg / cm2. It was concluded that replacement of coarse aggregate with crushed brick is effective when used up to a maximum of 21%. The results obtained are optimal and viable over time, showing an increase in compressive strength, flexural strength and a decrease in the percentage of cracks in the plastic state.

Full textThe present investigation was elaborated with the purpose of studying the influence of the addition of rice husk ash (RHA) and polypropylene fibers (PPF) on the plastic shrinkage cracking of concrete. The research study took place in the city of Lima, where we focused on investigating the plastic and mechanical properties of a concrete f´c = 210 kg / cm2, which is commonly used in the manufacture of solid slabs, with partial replacement of the cement by RHA in percentages of 5%, 10% and 15% respect to its weight and PPF in yield of 900 g / m3. The main properties in the hardened state were investigated, the compressive strength and flexural strength and the property in the plastic state that developed was cracking due to plastic shrinkage through the ASTM C1579 test. Taking into account that there is no agreement regarding the maximum width in a structural element, it was decided to use limits between 0.2 to 0.4 mm, for normal environments, suggested by Mg. Eng. Gianfranco Ottazzi. According to the results obtained, the mixture added with RHA in replacement of cement in percentages of 5%, 10% and 15% together with PPF in yield of 900 gr / m3, we can infer that the RHA will reduce, not significantly, the strength properties of a concrete f´c = 210 kg / cm2, however, reduce the average occurrence of cracks produced in solid slabs due to the plastic shrinkage of the same.
