In the late XVI century, in large cities of German-speaking Europe, information texts appeared timed to coincide with the beginning of spring and autumn fairs. Michael von Aitzinger is credited as the originator of these texts, which later came to be known as Meßrelationen. In this article, these texts are referred to as information fair summaries. During their initial decades, these texts displayed considerable variation in both structure and semantic content, indicating the nascent development of this innovative text form.
