As managed lanes and high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes gain popularity as a potential mobility measure, the question of how the public views these relatively new concepts is of vital importance. Concerned that a potential conversion of the North I-25 high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) facility in Denver, Colorado, to HOT lanes could be perceived as too controversial, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) sponsored market research and public outreach and assessment for evaluating the level of controversy. Abstract A new, lean, molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel with lower nickel and molybdenum content has been developed. This alloy, currently identified as ATI 216HP™, has properties comparable to Type 316L stainless steel, and was developed to be used in the environments where Type 316L currently is used. In the absence of a UNS designation assignment, the alloy is identified as S216XX alloy in this paper. An UNS number for this alloy will be obtained later. The composition of S216XX alloy (nominally 18%Cr, 4.5% Ni, 5.0% Mn, 1.0 %Mo and 0.19% N, balance Fe) provides this alloy wit

Abstract Surface casing of wellheads encounters chronic external corrosion challenge due to aggressive exposure conditions. The possible causes of the corrosion damage are: a) Seepage of water from associated equipment such as surface piping and wellhead valves during various operations and maintenance on water related wells. b) Presence of highly saline and corrosive water close to surface in “Subkha” environment. c) Impediments to effective cathodic protection at shallow depths. To counter this challenge one of the measures undertaken is to have a robust coating system having good abrasion a

Abstract Three types of protective clothing, Product 'A', 'B', and 'C', were tested for breakthrough time against eight industrial chemicals. Random triplicate samples of the protective clothing material and garment seams were exposed to the challenge chemicals under 'new' and 'field' conditions. Breakthrough of the challenge chemicals was indicated by a change in pH of distilled water, the collecting medium. Mean and normalized breakthrough times were calculated. Product 'A', was found to provide inadequate end user protection against 88% of the challenge chemicals, while Product 'B' provided

Abstract Corrosion protection was always an important part of industrial development. The use of oil- and solvent-based products in the preservation of metal has been a common practice for over one hundred years. While these products may offer good corrosion protection, they often contain hazardous ingredients and are non-degradable. A number of regulations were implemented recently for the protection of the environment. The most known among them are North Sea (UK, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands) and US Gulf Coast lists of the chemicals environmentally acceptable in these regions, limiting t

Abstract Wet hydrogen sulfide cracking of pressure vessel steels has been a major concern in petroleum refining as well as in the oil and gas industry since the 1950's. Nowadays, more and more H2S-containing oil and gas fields are exploited. Hydrogen sulfide is responsible for numerous corrosion phenomena in steels, such as Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC), Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC), and Stress Oriented Hydrogen Induced Cracking (SOHIC). During the last 30 years, pressure vessel steels with improved SSC, and furthermore HIC, resistance have been developed to resist H2S-induced degradation i

The upward mobility of Blacks in the earlier decades was based on

Abstract:
Historically, Charpy test results have been used for assessing linepipe steels for fitness-for-service or new pipeline design, and the linepipe steels should be chosen such that the brittle-to-ductile transition temperature of the steel is below the minimum design service temperature. The transition temperature is typically much different for crack initiation versus crack propagation. This study focused on the transition temperature for fracture initiation which is important for liquid as well as high-energy lines. However, in recent studies, different behavior between vintage and newer steels

The tomato, a profitable vegetable crop in both the USA and Israel, has benefited significantly from intensive breeding efforts in both countries, and elsewhere (esp. Holland). : Modem hybrids are highly prolific and resistant to a variety of major pests. They produce attractive, firm fruit for both processing and fresh-marketing. In all cases, however, reduction in flavor and aroma have occurred concomitantly with the increase in yield. Sugars-acids ratio dominate fruit taste, whereas aroma volatiles (potent at minute ppb and ppt levels) contribute to the total characteristic tomato flavor. A
