Recently, Sen et al. (2016) introduced a new lifetime distribution, called “xgamma distribution", which can be used as an alternative to other lifetime distributions, like the exponential one. In this paper, we study the problem of classical and Bayesian estimation of the unknown parameter of the xgamma distribution based on record values and inter-record times. The problem of Bayesian prediction of future record values based on record values and interrecord times is also discussed. A small simulation study has been performed to compare the performance of the proposed estimators and the approx

At the turn of the 2020s, music is largely distributed and consumed via streaming services. This new »moment« in recorded music has attracted a lot of attention from scholars, with the aim of identifying the nature of transformations that are occurring at an economic and/or cultural level. This chapter critically assesses scholarly analyses of music production, distribution, and consumption in the age of streaming services. We note that accounts tend to work with specific assumptions underpinning the association between culture and technology, in particular in relation to the democratization o

This chapter discusses India's National Food Security Act (NFSA), with a special focus on the public distribution system (PDS). The PDS had a very poor record until recently, but is now improving significantly in many states. In north India, Chhattisgarh took the lead by initiating a series of PDS reforms in the mid‐2000s, with impressive results. Similar reforms were initiated later on in many other states. Even the reformed PDS is far from perfect, but it does protect millions of rural households from hunger and food insecurity. Recent evidence from the National Sample Survey also suggests t

Abstract With the rapid construction of high voltage alternating current (AC) transmission lines, AC interference problem is becoming a new threat to the pipeline safety, especially for pipelines coated with high quality coating, such as 3PE+. Solid State DC Decoupler and Zinc ribbon groundbed AC mitigation system is the most commonly used mitigation method. But the locations of the mitigation system and the size of the zinc ribbon grounding system still remains a problem for most engineers. Abstract Deteriorating pipeline coating systems have been a dilemma in the industry for many years. The interaction between coatings and cathodic protection (CP) is based on the type of coating and the percent of deterioration (Bare Pipe) in the system. There are two primary strategies to approach this problem. The first one is to recoat which is very expensive and may require taking the line out of service with resulting loss of revenue. Second is to install conventional CP groundbed systems that consist of three primary types; remote, deep, and close coupled. Past application of these ground

Offshore structures are exposed to random wave loading in the ocean environment and hence the probability distribution of their response to wave loading is the minimum requirement for probabilistic analysis of these structures. Even if the structural system can be assumed to be linear, due to nonlinearity of the wave loading mechanism and also due to the intermittency of wave loading on members in the splash zone, the response is often non-Gaussian. A new approach to determine the design wave load on bottom-fixed structures in shallow water breaking waves is presented here. The method takes into account the effects that wave breaking has on both the wave height distribution and the wave induced loads on the structure. The loads on offshore wind turbine foundations in irregular seas with a significant amount of wave breaking are modeled in a physical wave tank. The loads are related to wave characteristics as steepness and Ursell number, and a non-linear transfer function between wave height/period and wave load is established. Characteris

The greatest progress has been made in reforming the trade and financial sectors. In terms of tax reform and privatization, the record has been mixed across countries.
