Based on the authors' experience at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), an effective way for members of engineering technology faculties to keep abreast of new developments in their field is to establish a faculty internship programme. The internship programme at MTSU, fully supported by the university's industrial advisory council, is set up to be a very simple and paper-free process. Every semester one faculty member spends the entire semester working as an engineer at a local firm and continues to draw his or her normal salary from the university. By the 1950s, tensions within the world of fundamentalism led to a new effort at reform. Self-proclaimed neo-evangelical reformers hoped to strip away some of the unnecessary harshness of fundamentalist traditions while remaining truly evangelical Christians. Often these reforms were personified in the revival campaigns of evangelist Billy Graham. The network of fundamentalist schools struggled to figure out its relationship to this new divide in the fundamentalist family. Some schools embraced the reform, while others decried it. Abstract:
The 21st-century faculty member is faced with numerous challenging tasks. Teaching must be current and highly engaging. To ensure the highest quality faculty development focused on digital teaching and learning, higher education academic institutions need to identify innovative new ways to address these challenges, often through digital methods and deliveries. Too often, however, faculty are pressured with diminished time and resources. That is, teaching, scholarship, and service dominate faculty members' schedules and time for faculty development is limited. To confront this serious issue, higher education academic institutions should develop applicable and digitally enabled faculty development programs designed in online, modular environments. This chapter provides an overview and analysis of the concept, design, and implementation of the DEEP (Developing Excellence in Eastern's Professors) online, modular faculty development system as a model for digital teaching and learning.

In 1885 Harvard’s faculty athletic committee bans football at Harvard as too brutal. Continuing to be involved in football and its management and promotion, Camp responds to the Harvard ban in the Yale News, contending that the Harvard faculty committee members have not sufficiently informed themselves about the game to make sound decisions. He gives an impassioned description of players’ love for football. Harvard resigns from, and Pennsylvania and Wesleyan join, the Intercollegiate Football Association. Later in the year, the Harvard athletic committee is reconstituted to include two students, a graduate interested in sports, a physician, and only one faculty member. The reconstituted committee reinstates football after a year’s absence, but Harvard remains out of the IFA.

In addition to his practice, he takes the lead for the New York State Psychological Association in the legislative battle to seek a licensing law that would allow non-medical therapists from practicing without linkage to a doctor. He also found a niche at the White Institute, at first creating a pastoral counseling program linking the Institute to clergy and seminar students and then as a full-fledged member of the teaching faculty. His public and professional profile expanded with the publication of Man’s Search for Himself in 1953, a popular and accurate presentation of the ideas of Kierkegaard and Tillich, as well as his own, as they applied to everyday life in modernity. There will be an abundance of new and unique experiences for a new faculty member during their first years in the academy. Understanding the expectations for scholarship, teaching, and service is a major portion of this experience; however, there are additional policies, procedures, opportunities, and expectations for junior faculty. Developing relationships for mentoring will be imperative to the successful navigation of each of these areas. This chapter will provide ideas for obtaining a mentor; developing as a responsible and successful mentee; ideas for navigating scholarship, teaching, and service requirements in the university setting; as well as provide voices from the field to offer additional perspectives.

Abstract:
Institutions struggle to develop online curriculum that meets increasing student demands for online education. The explosive growth of online learning necessitates that many higher education faculty transition from a traditional classroom to a web-based format, sometimes with little or no training. This chapter describes a holistic online faculty professional development (PD) model developed through use of a concerns-based adoption model (CBAM). The CBAM model provides an affective and behavioral lens for managing change. Through two of CBAM's components called stages of concern and levels of use, a PD plan was constructed that approaches the transition to distance learning as an ongoing process rather than simply as technology training. The holistic PD model considers each faculty member as an individual with unique needs. Components of the PD model and new Center for E-Learning (CeL) development and program building are explained. Impact on faculty and students and recommendations for program planning and future research are included.
