We demonstrate how a new exactly soluble cavity QED model can be used to test local realism associated with three-particle entangled states, as proposed by Mermin. These states embody the correlations described by Greenberger, Horne, and Zeilinger (GHZ) and provide a stronger refutation of local hidden variable theories than is possible with Bell inequalities. For large initial fields, the evolution of the Jaynes-Cummings model is shown to simplify considerably. For two special initial atomic states (the eigenstates of the semiclassical problem) one finds a disentangled, quasipure-state evolution for both the field and atom. Arabidopsis mutants that we have isolated, encode for fertilization-independent endosperm (fie), fertilization-independent seed2 (fis2) and medea (mea) genes, act in the female gametophyte and allow endosperm to develop without fertilization when mutated. We cloned the FIE and MEA genes and showed that they encode WD and SET domain polycomb (Pc G) proteins, respectively.
