The research experiments reported were conducted at the Materials Research Center, ATR Institute, University of New Mexico, at the request of the Research Bureau, New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department (NMSHTD). The purpose was to determine the amount of additives required for mitigation of alkali-silica reactivity (ASR) based on screening tests. Fly ash additives routinely used in New Mexico and a new material—lithium nitrate—proposed by the Strategic Highway Research Program were evaluated. The aim of this research is to develop environmentally friendly, lightweight composites using egg shell, as filler in some thermoplastic polymer matrices Polypropylene (PP), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) and Polystyrene (PS) polymer; to determine the physico-mechanical properties of the egg shell agro-residue polymer composite, to find if there is any new improvement over the properties of the starting thermoplastic polymer composites. This research work studied the reinforcement potential of egg shell in thermoplastic polymers (HDPE, PS, PP and ABS). It's the beginning of 2000 and the 21st century is all mapped out. Since we've just had that time at the end of a decade (not to mention the end of the century, as well as the Christian calendar "millennium"), when all the pundits came out to review where we had been and forecast where we are going, we should have expected a profundity of future-casting. But neither the familiar prognostications of the coming apocalypse spewing forth from the Religious Right, nor the usual statistical projections made by "experts" on such things as population growth, world politics, economic cycles, new produc

Are they necessarily monolithic “beige boxes”, connected to computer monitors, sitting on computer desks, located in computer rooms or computer labs? In order for a device to be considered a true computer, does it need to have a keyboard and mouse? If this were 1991 or earlier, our collective perception of what computers are and are not

If the home is traditionally considered to be a space of safety associated with the warm and cosy feeling of the familial hearth, it is also continuously portrayed as a space under threat from the outside from which we must secure ourselves and our families. Securing the home entails a series of material, discursive and performative strategies, a host of precautionary measures aimed at regulating and ultimately producing security. When I was eleven my family returned home from the local fruit markets to find our house had been ransacked. Clothes were strewn across the floo
