Abstract:
Radio is an under-researched medium, yet it is present in an increasing range of forms and roles in our everyday lives. For the last two decades, Australians over 18 years have listened to an average of 20 hours of radio a week. Owning multiple receivers is very much the norm and it is not unusual to hear of households with five or more radios. We wake to radio, listen to radio in our showers, go to work with radio in our cars, listen to radio while we are on telephone-hold during the day, and take radios to the beach or to sporting events to follow the commentary. Radio at home can be aural wallpaper, a source of information and entertainment and a companion, as the talkback shows demonstrate. Most of all, radio is local — or at least, it has been.

AbstractNearly all of the exciting discoveries in radio astronomy have come from new instruments or techniques which have provided new frequencies, high sensitivity, higher spatial or time resolution, or improved image quality. Since the last General Assembly a number of major new radio telescopes have been completed while construction of others have only just begun. At the same time telescopes of the more distant future are still in the conceptual stage. This paper summarizes a full-day meeting of Commission 40 on recently completed radio telescopes, new radio telescopes now under construction, and radio telescopes of the future.

Abstract:
Since the appearance of television, the death of the radio has been expected. However, despite all the threats it is still alive and has seen an increase in audiences in a hostile scenario for a centennial media. Reality shows that the radio has transformed its weaknesses into strengths and has adapted to the new ecosystem faster than any other media. The reasons for this quick and successful adaptation are related to the simplicity of the support and to its unisensorial language, but also to an unprecedented capacity of adaptation to new situations. This work identifies the characteristics that makes radio a survivor and analyzes the way in which the radio adapted itself to the new ecosystem, illustrating each case with examples from Portuguese radios.

Abstract:
‘Mediamorphosis’ is a transformation of communication media caused by complex interactions between perceived needs, competitive and political pressures, and social and technological innovation. The digital revolution that gave birth to media digitalisation is one of the causes of mediamorphosis. Another thing that drives mediamorphosis is the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia and other countries in the world. Mediamorphosis is a concept used in this study because it refers to the form of radio broadcasts that have changed and adapted due to the novel COVID-19 virus throughout the world and in Indonesia. The main social regulations by the Indonesian Government have implications for radio broadcasting operations. This study aims to see how local private radio– Radio Elisa FM carries out mediamorphosis which is analysed more specifically using the concept of convergence. The research paradigm used is constructivism with a qualitative approach and case study method. The results of the study show that the mediamorphosis carried out by Radio Elisa produces a new face for Radio Elisa broadcasts as a visual radio in the new normal era.

It is six years since the Keating Labor government's deregulation of commercial radio in Australia opened up opportunities for commercial radio networking, invited substantial overseas investment (and consequently, linkages with overseas media organisations) and virtually closed down the public regulation of content on radio. From any perspective, it remains important to understand precisely how ownership, production and distribution systems mesh with historically particular social and cultural formations. In addressing that context, this essay asks three questions: Citizen Kane issues aside, how have management decisions on networking influenced program quality? Second, how important is geography in this? And third, is technology driving the process?

This research is an investigation into changes in the radio listening habits of consumers who use on-demand radio. Findings indicate high daily listening rates to online on-demand radiophonic content as listeners are not dependent on schedules. Listeners proactively use the options offered by on-demand radio to satisfy listeners’ diverse needs, in line with the uses and gratifications theory. The diversity of online radio offerings encourages frequent consumption of more varied content. Findings indicate that radio’s entry into the new medium offers interactivity, demassification and asynchroneity, expands its distribution and helps it maintain its role as a relevant medium of influence.

Abstract:
AbstractCompared with other public media, the colonial state showed a relative lack of interest in radio broadcasting, which developed in Vietnam in the 1930s under the aegis of two organizations based in Hanoi and Saigon, the Radio-Club de l'Indochine du Nord and Radio Saigon. These two groups were largely responsible for the new technology's expansion and for determining the content of broadcasting. The groups actively consulted the growing radio public, and that vocal audience played a role in determining not just what was heard but also in the social life of radio in late-colonial Vietnam. The content of radio was limited to a non-political domain and this fact, along with the particular position that many radios took in the social geography of towns and cities, lent itself to the easy entry of the radio into day-to-day life. Indeed, the early history of radio in Vietnam is remarkable for how rapidly it became commonplace, even banal.

Abstract:
The radio frequency spectrum constitutes a limited and strategic natural resource with high economic value, so it must be managed effectively and efficiently to obtain optimal benefits by observing national and international legal principles. Radio Community Broadcasting Institution uses limited frequency allocation in three channels, namely, in the frequency channels 202 (107.7 MHz), 203 (107.8 MHz), and 204 (107.9 MHz), with limited transmit power and area coverage. The problem in this research is the frequency overlap with other community radios in an area. The issue raised is whether it is possible to establish a new community radio in the Batang Regency area by paying attention to existing radios that have licenses in districts/cities that are in the area directly adjacent to Batang Regency by considering the limited allocation of radio frequency channels community, without the occurrence of radio frequency interference with other community radios. The purpose of this research is to solve these problems. It is necessary to have a policy in determining radio frequency users to get good quality radio broadcast reception. The method used is to analyze the frequency determination technique based on the interference analysis on other community broadcasters. By using the Radio Mobile Software for frequency repetition simulation, in this research, the results show that Batang FM Community Radio does not allow to get frequency channels for community radio operations. After all, it interferes with the Service Area of Soneta FM Radio in Pekalongan City because it does not meet the requirements for determining the frequency channel = Eu> NF, namely the Nuisance Field (NF) value of 109.7 dB is greater than the Minimum Usable Field strength (Eu) of 66 dB. In comparison, Limpung FM Radio gets radio frequency on channel 203 (frequency 107.8 MHz) because it meets the requirements for determining the frequency channel = Eu> NF, namely the Minimum Usable Field strength (Eu) 66 dB greater than the Nuisance Field (NF) of 55.7 dB.

Abstract:
Previous researches on radio convergence showed that various radio stations in Ponorogo have implemented convergence by using new media platforms, such as, radio and video streaming, Youtube, and social media. However, evaluations on radio convergence has never been done before. Therefore, this research was conducted to study the effect of convergence to the listenership as well as to evaluate the implementation of radio-convergence in Ponorogo radio stations from April to July 2019. Using a survey method, the researchers administered a set of questionnaires to 267 respondents in Ponorogo to find out the listenership trends in Ponorogo community on its radio and other convergence platforms. The results of the study showed that the convergence implemented by the radios failed to raise awareness and number of radio listeners. Low awareness affects the community’s media habit. It was apparent in the fact that 84% of the respondents preferred conventional (analog) radio to a convergence platform. The results of this study also showed that convergence was unable to foster community involvement with radio. In other words, the radio was not the primary choice of the Ponorogo community in accessing information or entertainment.

Abstract:
AbstractTo this date ψ Per is the only classical Be star that was angularly resolved in radio (by the VLA at λ = 2 cm). Gaussian fit to the azimuthally averaged visibility data indicates a disk size (FWHM) of ~500 stellar radii (Dougherty & Taylor 1992). Recently, we obtained new multi-band cm flux density measurements of ψ Per from the enhanced VLA. We modeled the observed spectral energy distribution (SED) covering the interval from ultraviolet to radio using the Monte Carlo radiative transfer code HDUST (Carciofi & Bjorkman 2006). An SED turndown, that occurs between far-IR and radio wavelengths, is explained by a truncated viscous decretion disk (VDD), although the shallow slope of the radio SED suggests that the disk is not simply cut off, as is assumed in our model. The best-fit size of a truncated disk derived from the modeling of the radio SED is 100+5−15 stellar radii, which is in striking contrast with the result of Dougherty & Taylor (1992). The reasons for this discrepancy are under investigation.

Abstract:
Community Radio has played an important role in shaping good local governance, village governance, supporting the people's economy, and preserving local wisdom. However, in the current era of new media, the existence of community radio is increasingly tested by various challenges. This study aims to understand how community radio managers adapt to the development of information and communication technology that continues to evolve. The research method used is descriptive with qualitative approach. Community radio is faced with the fact that information and communication technologies are constantly evolving, forming what we know as new media. In earlier eras, radio was identified with a physical device called a radio, but now radio broadcasts can be accessed via online channels or by streaming without being constrained by frequency range. These new media-based broadcasts often lack personal interaction with their listeners. Therefore, to build a more emotional connection with its audience, community radio managers and broadcasters need to adopt a more humanist approach. They seek to strengthen the bond between community radio and its listeners through more direct, responsive, and personalized interactions. Thus, they create stronger bonds and build loyalty among their listeners. This study is expected to provide a deeper insight into the adaptation strategies undertaken by community radio in the face of rapid changes in the media environment. With a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities at hand, community radio can continue to be a relevant and beneficial means for local communities.

Abstract
This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection methods are interviews, observations and documents. Researchers interviewed three respondents, namely the director, broadcast manager and broadcaster of K-Radio Jember. Talcott Parsons' theory, known as the AGIL theory, adaptation, goal, integration and latency becomes a research analysis. The result of this study is that K-Radio Jember survives in the midst of social media exposure by adapting and utilizing social media to expand its reach and foster creativity that is in line with the times. For K-Radio management, the presence of new media is not a threat, but an opportunity to maintain the existence of conventional media.

Abstract:
In 2001, India’s first private FM station – Radio City, Bangalore – came on air, ending an era of state broadcasting that began in 1930. In the past decade, FM radio has enjoyed spectacular success: over 200 stations are now in operation, and the FM industry has seen spectacular growth in listenership and revenues. FM’s impact goes beyond economics; it is now a cultural signifier synonymous with modernity – as the ‘tagline’ for a popular FM network puts it ‘Radio Mirchi – it’s hot!’ FM, I argue in this article, represents a new kind of radio. The shift from state-controlled, nationwide AM transmission to corporate-owned local FM broadcasting signals a profound change in the very philosophy of radio in India. This article offers a brief account of the history of Indian radio and analyzes the social and economic factors that necessitated a change in modes of broadcasting. It also brings its claims into focus through using a case study that looks at the business structure, programming policies, and audience management strategies of one very popular FM station – Radio Mirchi, Kolkata – in order to demonstrate how these newly shaped practices are reinventing the role of radio in contemporary India.

Abstract:
Due to the rapid growth in the use of wireless communication services and the corresponding scarcity and the high cost of radio spectrum bandwidth, Channel assignment problem (CAP) is becoming highly important. Radio [Formula: see text]-coloring of graphs is a variation of CAP. For a positive integer [Formula: see text], a radio [Formula: see text]-coloring of a simple connected graph [Formula: see text] is a mapping [Formula: see text] from the vertex set [Formula: see text] to the set [Formula: see text] of non-negative integers such that [Formula: see text] for each pair of distinct vertices [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is the distance between [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in [Formula: see text]. The span of a radio [Formula: see text]-coloring [Formula: see text], denoted by [Formula: see text], is defined as [Formula: see text] and the radio[Formula: see text]-chromatic number of [Formula: see text], denoted by [Formula: see text], is [Formula: see text] where the minimum is taken over all radio [Formula: see text]-coloring of [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we present two radio [Formula: see text]-coloring algorithms for general graphs which will produce radio [Formula: see text]-colorings with their spans. For an [Formula: see text]-vertex simple connected graph the time complexity of the both algorithm is of [Formula: see text]. Implementing these algorithms we get the exact value of [Formula: see text] for several graphs (for example, [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], some circulant graph etc.) and many values of [Formula: see text], especially for [Formula: see text].

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to describe the marketing strategy of Hits Unikom Radio in increasing Brand Awareness in this digitalization era. The method used in this research is to use a qualitative approach which is described descriptively to determine the marketing strategy in increasing Brand Awareness of Hits Unikom Radio in the digital era. The results of this study indicate that Hits Unikom Radio's marketing strategy in increasing Brand Awareness by utilizing Instagram social media is successful because there is a significant increase in the number of new followers. And this Instagram social media is a strategic target for radio with a youth segmentation. To overcome competition with other radios today, especially in Bandung, Hits Unikom Radio is very consistent with playing the latest songs that are up to date. In addition, Hits Unikom Radio also utilizes the use of other social media, such as YouTube, Facebook and Tik-Tok. However, this research will emphasize Instagram social media because in this digital era, especially radio, Instagram is a strong social media to provide information about activities that can later increase brand awareness of the listeners. So it can be concluded from this research that Hits Unikom Radio provides interesting upload content and succeeds in increasing Brand Awareness. It is proven that special events on the radio such as interviews with artists and other exciting activities can be enjoyed by old followers and even new followers. And because it has other social media so that the activity can also be watched on the youtube channel. Hits Unikom Radio can be said to be an all in one radio because it broadcasts on air, off air, and live streaming.

Abstract:
The history of municipal radio stations in the United States has yet to be written. Between 1921 and 1927, at least twelve municipalities obtained licences to broadcast over the air and there are traces of dozens of municipal radio projects across the United States in the 1920s. Apart from WNYC, New York’s municipal station from 1924 to 1996, most of them have been dismissed as failures and sunk into oblivion. Based on archival research, this article seeks to recover that part of the history of broadcasting and capture what citizens, elected officials and broadcasters meant when they talked about ‘municipal radios’ in the decades that saw the birth of the US broadcasting system. Those experiments point to a path not taken to combine radio and democracy. This article thus contributes to the history of public media by tracking the origins of public broadcasting in the United States besides educational radio.

Abstract:
The design of internet radio services for conventional radio, especially in the city of Bandung was made, because at this time many new services have sprung up with various innovations that can create new markets and can also "disrupt" or damage existing markets. This happens in various industries, including the conventional radio industry. The presence of new services such as internet radio, audio streaming, or music streaming can disrupt the services provided by conventional radio, especially in the city of Bandung. This can reduce customers and conventional radio revenue. Radio internet services can be a radio solution to stay afloat. Therefore, the radio industry needs a radio internet service plan that can describe internet radio services ranging from business to information technology. This study aims to make the design of internet radio services that are expected to be a solution to increase the potential for conventional radio revenue. Internet Radio is designed not only as a live broadcast service as it is today, but must be able to provide services that remain in accordance with the expertise of the radio industry and also with additional capabilities that are more in line with customer needs today.

Aims. The aim of this work is to analyse the radio properties of the massive and dynamically disturbed clusters Abell 1451 and Zwcl 0634.1+4750, especially focusing on the possible presence of diffuse emission. Methods. We present new Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) 320 MHz and Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA) 1.5 GHz observations of these two clusters. Results. We found that both Abell 1451 and Zwcl 0634.1+4750 host a radio halo with a typical spectrum (α ~ 1−1.3). Similarly to a few other cases reported in the recent literature, these radio halos are significantly fainter in radio luminosity with respect to the current radio power-mass correlations and they are smaller than classical giant radio halos. These underluminous sources might contribute to elucidating the complex mechanisms of formation and evolution of radio halos. Furthermore, we detected a candidate radio relic at large distance from the cluster centre in Abell 1451 and a peculiar head-tail (HT) radio galaxy in Zwcl 0634.1+4750, which might be interacting with a shock front.

Abstract:
AbstractWhen New Zealand’s ‘third-way’ Labour government came to power in 1999 it placed a greater policy and funding emphasis on the arts and culture. Like other ‘promotional states’ (Cloonan 1999) the Labour government sought to support the domestic popular music industry through a voluntary radio quota. Drawing on qualitative research, this article describes the ways in which the state, through New Zealand on Air, negotiates and leverages domestic popular music artists onto commercial radio. In this process, state agents mobilise social networks to ‘join-up’ commercially appropriate artists to radio programmers. The success of this programme is based upon state agents developing an institutional isomorphism with existing music industry practices. Even so, popular music makers contest New Zealand on Air’s sympathetic policy settings by citing forms of institutional exclusion.
