Abstract: Internet has been drawing the interest of researchers as a new social space where new manners of communication and sociability are being sustained. Therefore, weblogs are one of the newest media channels at the scope of cyberspace. Moreover then the objective of this paper is to search the noticiability criteria e "news-value" that guide the establishment of a possible new journalistic configuration on blogs, to verify the ciber journalistic genres of piece of news whereas they rise as a journalistic media in webjournalism. So the proposal is to relate, by means of an exploratory study, the information achieved in the empiric processual survey within the analyzed blogs about the contestations that pass by this consideration; if the journalism that is executed on blogs repeats the same standards of the world media or the multimedia potential of this channels changes the "news-value" or promotes a new agenda, in fact, beyond what happens at the so-called mass media. Would it be that the new one is in motion or the old one is disguised by multimedia personalization resources? For that, this research intents to present ample theoretic and empiric subventions about the blogs introduced at the wide media culture and the virtual public sphere, that contribute to compensate for the lack of studies about this new communication phenomenon

More high-tech firms are conducting their business over long distances due to the use of new information and communication technologies (ICT). However, regional scientists articulate that geographic proximity is still important, at least, to the high-tech industry and the knowledge-related business activities. My research offers a ground work for understanding the paradox - more dispersed high-tech business practices and higher geographic concentration of high-tech jobs in the new economy than before. Drawing from diverse regional and economic literatures, I suggest a paradox of new information communication technology regarding the location pattern of high knowledge-generating jobs. From this perspective, I found a dispersed concentration pattern of high knowledge-generating jobs due to less transitory tacit knowledge than codified knowledge and implicit communication; and business organization change. Both my longitudinal empirical analysis and interviews suggest that the jobs in the high knowledge-generating production industries in the United States became further concentrated during the 1990s.
(cont.) During the same period, the jobs in the high knowledge-generating customer-oriented industries dispersed. In the former industries, producers are the major knowledge generators, while in the latter industries, tacit knowledge is derived mostly from the interaction between firms and customers. In consequence, the jobs in the former industries tend to agglomerate with each other, but the jobs in the latter industries tend to disperse in order to be close to customers. Furthermore, five out of the six high-knowledge generating production industries show a "winner-takes-all" kind of spatial monopolization of jobs. For example, in the computer industry, the ratio of the job share of Silicon Valley, the top share holder, and the job share of the Boston metro area, the second highest job share holder, increased from 1.6 in 1990 to 2.9 in 2000. However, this finding fails to explain the phenomenon of R&D units of advanced multinational high-tech production firms locating in remote developing and middle-income countries.
(cont.) To answer this puzzle, I identify their actual activities and compare multinational and local R&D operations in Korea. Interviews reveal that they are closer to being customer-relations intensive units, although the R&D units of the multinational firms in Korea are labeled "R&D." They are conduits of outreach to local customers, which conduct (1) the flexible customization of their products to meet local customers' demands and (2) customer management and marketing in the highly competitive global market.

Full textlt;p align="justify"gt; The use of new technologies and the use of connected computers to the Internet are present in all of the segments of the society. This presence has been irreversibly transforming the form as the people think, they act and they link with the other ones. Those changes come from the speed that they are made available and the information processed. Communicating seems to interconnect and to approximate individuals making to level perceptions and situations lived in day-to-day that can interfere in school practice. In that way, this study involved teenagers that have access to those new equipments which have been influencing in the way of communicating and informing inside and out of the school. Therefore, its implication, in the school context, it was analyzed in this research, whose investigated subjects were students of the Medium Teaching Level of a private school. The objective was to investigate the influence of the new technologies (computer and Internet) in the day-to-day of the teenagers and their use in the education process. It was used, as research instrument, a questionnaire, applied to the teenagers. Among the study subjects we had: are the Internet and the computer considered tools to service of the knowledge? How is it that the Internet has been used by the teenagers, and how do they use it in the education? After the data analysis, it was possible to observe that: the teenagers notice the use of the computer and the Internet as source of information and its usefulness as research. In what it concerns to the inquiry of the use of the computer and of the Internet as form of to approximate or to move away the people of the environment, the teenagers in larger percentage emphasized that those technologies move away the people of the environment, because the equipment causes addiction for those that don't have a self-control of its use distancing of the natural environment. Concluding, the teenagers notice the new technologies as tool to service of the knowledge.lt;/pgt;

Full textThis phenomenological study examined how dispersed social workers experience interactions through new communication technology as periods of social presence with their centralized coworkers and supervisors. Additionally, this study sought to understand how interaction via new communication technology facilitates increased organizational identification among dispersed social workers. The conceptual framework focused on social presence and organizational identification theories as well as dispersed work within the context of social work.
Eleven participants engaged in semistructured, open-ended interviews, and data were analyzed according to Moustakas' (1994) phenomenological analysis reduction method. As a result, five themes and several connected elements emerged. The five themes were social presence, increased organizational identification (OI), lowered OI, advantages of dispersed social work, and challenges to dispersed social work.
Based on the themes and textural and structural descriptions, there were five findings that answered the two overarching research questions: What is the dispersed social worker's experience of interaction through new communication technology as periods of social presence with his or her centralized coworkers and supervisors? What is the dispersed social worker's experience of interaction via new communication technology as the facilitation of organizational identification? Those findings were as follows:
1. Dispersed social workers do not experience interactions through new communication technology as periods of social presence with their centralized coworkers. 2. There are mixed experiences of interaction through new communication technology as periods of social presence with supervisors. 3. Interaction via new communication technology facilitated a varied sense of organizational identification based on the affective, communication, and cognitive components that encompass OI. 4. Dispersed social workers' affective and communicative OI is contingent upon the frequency and type of communication with coworkers (centralized and dispersed) and supervisor. 5. Lack of or negative interaction with centralized coworkers negatively impacted cognitive OI.
Based upon the findings, conclusions were drawn, and implications and recommendations for theory, research, and practice were discussed.

Abstract: The technical-scientific development in recent years has favored a revolution both on cartography science and on social interaction with the emergence of multiple cartography features. The intensive use of informatics by Cartography has allowed an interaction of cartography forms with different multimedia resources, such as texts, graphics, sound, videos and animation that make them more dynamic and interactive. Those new ways of representation and communication of spatial information have been named Multimedia Cartography. School cartography, i.e. the one studied, learned and produced in the scope of regular education, has had to live along with a multimedia cartography education that is produced and spread out of the school walls. We understand that reading Multimedia Cartography from the Cartography for children and scholars can reveal more humanistic and ordered aspects of these relations, as for example, the idea that linearity and hierarchy that dominate printed maps happen under multiple connections and interpretations when produced in flowing networks (less fixed) of spatial representations. This way, our research has a qualitative approach working with a theoretical-methodological referential in Geography. It aims at analyzing in which aspects interactivity allowed by cartography multimedia projects can lead to other readings about the space that is represented by cartography forms supported by discrete available media. It is, therefore, a theoretical-conceptual research where there is no intention to modify the concepts once discussed into methodological proposals for school use. Firstly we introduce concepts such as media, multimedia, interactivity, hipertext, hipermedia, besides Multimedia Cartography, cartographic visualization, electronic atlas, hipermap, interactive map, animated map, these ones aligned to their ways of structure and distribution. We then organize a ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract: In this research included in the research line "Training Practices and Processes in Education" one aims to investigate whether the undergraduate programs are actually training teachers to use the Digital Technologies of Information and Communication (TDIC) in the schools of basic education. Its relevance is to help broadening the understanding of the subject and also to the fact that teachers are essential to any innovation or qualitative change that is sought in Education. One delimited as general objective to investigate whether teacher training to focus on Basic Education includes knowledge on TDIC and under what pedagogical paradigm they are articulated. The following specific objectives then arises: identifying curricula aimed at teaching and learning of TDIC in undergraduate programs of the Sao Paulo State public universities that will form for Basic Education and identify the presence of TDIC in the pedagogical proposals analyzed. This is a qualitative analysis with quantitative data. Initially, we analyzed the curriculum, menus and education programs of 123 major courses in the three universities of Sao Paulo State and noted the occurrence of these technologies in both mandatory and optional teaching subjects, with a greater number of events in the later. Then, by analyzing the pedagogical projects of six courses in the exact sciences from one of these universities initially targeted, it was found evidence of proposals for teacher training for the use of TDIC in two of six courses we focused, both... The increasingly integrated presence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on university campuses in recent decades has prompted calls for a better understanding of how students use ICTs in higher education, including the transition to college. While research indicates that students with higher self-efficacy are more likely to persist in college, current research makes few connections between students’ self-efficacy with ICTs and persistence. Additionally, researchers in the area of student retention call for educators to understand how their students perceive the college’s cultural environment so as to help students fit in at an institution and persist. Exploration of ICTs as part of a student’s social, academic, and cultural experiences at the university offers educators and administrators the possibility of modifying the college’s cultural properties in response to student needs. This qualitative study investigated first-year college students and their use of technologies to address the following research question: How do first-year college students perceive their experiences using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the higher education environment? Employing interviews and a phenomenological approach, this study explored the experiences of 19 undergraduate students. Six faculty members or instructors were interviewed about their teaching experiences with first-year students and the extent to which ICTs were incorporated in those experiences in order to provide triangulation of data. Through the analysis of interview transcripts and open coding, three themes emerged regarding how students experience ICTs in higher education. Statements from students and faculty suggest that students experienced ICTs in higher education as: a process of academic integration; situations for which they held internal or external loci of control when using them for academic purposes; and tools to use when becoming socially integrated into the university. The findings of this study have the potential to assist university faculty, instructors, and other staff who are designing courses and services for first-year students. First, the study’s findings indicate that instructors need to be as explicit as possible with their expectations of student use of technology. When students are expected to demonstrate certain behaviors with ICTs those behaviors should be both supported and modeled by faculty and instructors. Secondly, when using ICTs for academic purposes, faculty can help students feel more responsible for their learning by providing them with opportunities to make decisions about how ICTs are used or to incorporate their own problem-solving or learning techniques with ICTs when completing coursework. Finally, faculty, instructors, and other staff should be aware that when first-year students are using ICTs socially, they are trying to create and maintain in-person relationships. Faculty, instructors, and other staff can guide first-year students to events and resources that will help them meet people and locate a social group in which they feel like they fit in.

Abstract: The object of study of this research is defined in terms of cognitive and emotional changes in the process of acquiring knowledge, supported by new technologies of information and communication (ICTs): how these changes transform the old paradigms of Information Science. The hypothesis is that the generation of products of contemporary creation is influenced and facilitated by new forms of perception and sensitivity offered by postvanguard media. The thesis is that procedures used to prepare professional designers in imagery can be extended, as far as the media invade the cognitive process of knowledge nowadays, determining means of perception, procedures and facilitating access to information as a whole. The technology interfaces interfere in shaping information and its perception, dissemination and reproduction in hypertextual and intersemiotical's systematic interactions. The proposed update of the concepts and procedures is based on the actualization of the concepts of science and contemporary art treated in accordance with new paradigms of Information Science. In these, science and aesthetics go together in order to create environments of communication conveyed by self-organization and new habits of selfarchiving. They are controlled by peers and mentors in daily pages, terms of annotation of electronic communication, leading to empowerment through collaborative practice. The thesis articulates a theoretical universe with application in laboratory practices. The theoretical basis is defined within the environment of the object of study -the information conveyed by the media as a post-vanguard dynamic chaotic subsystem permeated by other subsystems- such as semiotics, especially intersemiotics translations and hybridizations modeled by the media in post-vanguard. Concepts of remix and reproducibility are treated subsequently to the intersemiosis. It is also sought to identify... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

The thesis through two game theoretic models shows the impact oflead users on FDI decision versus exports. All other things equal, the 1st model proposesthat, FDI is more profitable in a technology push innovation, in order to learn about leadusers’ advanced needs, the higher the risk of product misspecification relative to localneeds. The probability of misspecification increases in the radicalness of the technologyand in the difference in the use environment between the two countries. The 2nd modelstudies the impact of lead users’ innovation. All other things equal, lead users whoreveal their innovation attract FDI, the higher the tacit knowledge incorporated in theirinnovation. To push the foreign investor to develop their innovation, lead users shallmaximize its generality and its tacit component. If the multinational has high firmspecificassets, then an arrangement to privilege the foreign investor relative to hispotential competitors would arise. To have a Pareto optimum equilibrium, the foreigninvestor shall maximize the improvements he brings to lead users’ innovation and shallprivilege lead users relative to other users. The thesis observes Egyptian informationand communication technology sector (ICT). There are obstacles interfering betweenthe adoption decision and actual adoption. Integrated subsidiaries within localinnovation networks can play a role in reducing the digital divide related to usage.Interviews with electronic government’s executives show that the government in orderto diffuse ICT may become an innovator lead user

Abstract: This work result of a Master investigation linked to the line of research Practices and Training Processes in Education. Illiteracy rates in Brazil are still high and statistics show that many students are not learning to read and write and, therefore, they are not able to live consciously in the literate world. On the other hand, the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are becoming more and more used in the education system, such as teaching resources that can improve the teaching and learning process, if used with consistent goals. The computer has resources which are attractive, such as multimedia, programs that combine games, educational information and opportunities of use that enable a different form of access information and knowledge building. Thus, the guiding objective of this research was to investigate the use of computers and their resources in the process of literacy through the training of literacy teachers. Studies on literacy, acquisition processes of written language and training of literacy teachers as well as theories of Informatics Applied to Education were used as theoretical base of this research. For this purpose, we developed a qualitative research, the kind action-research with intervention in one class room, with twenty-eight students, one teacher of literacy and one teacher of Informatic. Initially, there were observations of lessons in the Informatic class to diagnose the context and the approach of the teacher in front of computer use. With the diagnosis obtained, the intervention was made through a continuous training of teachers in a differentiated teaching practice, mediated by computer resources. This practice consisted in the presentation of resources, manipulation of these by the teachers ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract: In this study, I investigate how teacher-students produce mathematics in a university extension distance course entitled Trends in Mathematics Education. The interactions between participants generally occurred in weekly synchronous on-line sessions in which issues were discussed related to some of the current trends in mathematics as well as development of spatial Euclidean geometry, the latter being the focus of this study. I suggested the use of the free software Wingeom for the geometrical constructions, but other resources, such as manipulatives, as well as different strategies for problem solving were observed. This dynamic showed evidence of the coordination of different media during the inquiry process, which demanded considerable involvement and empathy on the part of the participants to better understand the explanation presented during the on-line chat discussions. The chat room of TelEuc, the environment used, presented some limitations with respect to the exchange of mathematical activity; nevertheless, this did not impede the discussion nor prevent the mathematical production from consolidating in a very specific way. I based the data analysis on Borba and Villarreals (2005) theoretical construct humans-with-media and the ideas of Lévy (1993, 1999, 2003) regarding collective thinking and collective intelligence. The results suggest that the different media (paper-and-pencil, manipulatives, Wingeom, and the Internet with its various interfaces) in a virtual learning environment conditioned the way the participants discussed the conjectures formulated during the geometric constructions and transformed the production of mathematics.

Full textDigital literacies have become central in today's society, used in various personal and public incarnations (Coiro, Knobel, Lankshear, & Leu, 2008), occupying prominent space in social and professional worlds (boyd, 2014; Leu et al., 2011). Despite digital literacies' centrality in society, schools have a notoriously difficult time integrating these into curriculum and instruction (O'Brien & Scharber, 2008). Accordingly, I asked: How do teachers in a large, public comprehensive secondary school navigate the challenges and benefits of digital literacies within the structure of Washington High, the curriculum, and their pedagogy? Using a case study design both ethnographic and collaborative in nature, I examined teachers' beliefs and practices to investigate how digital literacies were being used in the classroom, as well as why. Data included a school-wide survey, participant interviews and observations with six teachers, and informal meetings with school staff, most notably the vice-principal. Data was analyzed through the lens of theories of literacy curricular design (New London Group, 1996) and an eye toward New Literacies (Lankshear & Knobel, 2006). Notable results include the finding that technology at Washington often plays out in fairly traditional, teacher-directed, "wine in new bottles" (Lankshear & Knobel, 2006, p. 55) sorts of ways. However, this study also concludes that why this is so moves far beyond these teachers' individual beliefs and practices. Their contexts (unreliable technology, control of uses imposed by the administration), their cultures (narratives of adolescents needing protection from themselves and others), and compulsory schooling itself (traditional conceptions of time and space, narrow definitions of success, high-stakes testing and teacher evaluations) all play dynamic and complicated parts in how digital literacies get taken up, along with teachers' own beliefs and practices. As such, I draw upon theories of complex personhood (Gordon, 1997) and complexity thinking (Davis & Sumara, 2008) in positing ways digital literacies may be utilized in relationship to schools. Implications address these practices' collaborative, creative potentials to transform schools

Abstract: This study investigates and analyzes the flow of information between the Bank of Brazil (Agency Houses of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul) and their corporate clients to identify strategic alignment between business management and information technology (IT), using the Application Manager service (GEFIN). The issues focus of this study are to examine whether: The banking sector, which employs the concept of strategic planning effectively, using a comprehensive approach to IT with the business strategy? How the subjects users of these technologies use the information to obtain greater efficiency to their business plans? Accordingly, my view of the research process we adopted the strategy on quality. The research method to achieve the proposed objectives was the case study. As instruments of data collection were applied a questionnaire to the customers who use the PJ GEFIN application and interview members of the portfolio PJ (Actual Position, Assistant Business Manager and Accounts). The central idea was to compare and clearly need these to see if indeed the technological tool allows GEFIN smoothly dialogue between the customer and the Bank of Brazil. The survey results made it possible to see that it is imperative to the Bank of Brazil, which make up a sector highly competitive and dynamic, seeking not only in its technology platform, but also in other organizational tools such as strategic information management, strategic planning business should be aligned to information technologies and best practices in competitive intelligence organization, guided by new ways of thinking about strategic management of business more broadly.

More recently, the emergence of social media brought forward by Web 2.0 is transforming how people and organizations are communicating. Tourism destinations and more specifically destination management organizations that manage and promote them are affected by these changes. The objective of this thesis is to answer the initial research question: How are destination management organizations adapting to this new communication environment? In this thesis, the external and promotional communication of destination management organizations is studied through the prism of communication models and theories. The subject has been observed in its context where traditional media is challenged by new tools available with new communication and information technology. The case of Tourisme Montréal, a non-profit private organization counting some 750 members (hotels, restaurants, attractions, etc. ) was analysed and the observations participate in the verification of the initial questioning. The work is divided into two major parts. The first part establishes the reference basis for the construction of the thesis. The second part is dedicated to the study of our chosen case, Tourisme Montréal. It compares theory knowledge to the reality of destination management organizations. Abstract: Corporate governance can be understood as a set of management mechanisms aim to reduce the distance between minority stakeholders and the power control of the company through internal and external controls. The theme has relevance by the growing idea that governance practices affect the performance of the companies at their business on stock exchange. Such result occurs due the adoption of practices that lead especially in consideration the strategic management of information internally and externally. It happens because the good communication, quick and clear, establishes a confidence climate on the relation of the company with society, creditors, collaborators and especially with investors. In Brazil the model created by the Sao Paulo stock exchange called New Market brings in its scope additional conduct rules to the existents on the Brazilian legislation and it possess as base the equity on the relationship between the parts, the transparence on information disclosure and the responsibility of accountability. This research presents a inquiry about the practiced models related to information management and accountability based on legal criteria besides to additional standards of information disclosure. It evaluated the governance mechanisms and how the strategic management of information is able to influence on the relationship between power control and minority stakeholders. Therefore it was analyzed the accountability elements, information disclosure and information access through a survey of companies that compose the New Market. Full textThis thesis will describe and analyze how young Syrian people could use the new techniques of information and communication. Firstly it describes the main characteristic of Syria on demographic economic political and cultural points of view. It underlines how the country has lately discovered the new technologies of communication in comparison with other Arabic countries. Then it presents the evolution of the sociology of mass media and communication and the main trends concerning the explication of the role of the web as a factor provoking the Arabic revolutions in 2010 and 2011. The text analyzes after the situation of the NTIC in Syria using quantitative information coming from different national and international reports. Then it presents the results of an inquiry organized through the web concerning a hundred or young Syrians who have answered to a large panel of opened or closed questions about the way they can use computers, web navigation and cellular phones. It underlines the differences between the generations, the genders and the different areas rural or urban concerning the use of the NTIC. The interest young people show for these techniques as a source of information is linked to the defiance concerning official media narrowly controlled by the regime. However, social networks in the context of the Syrian civil war trend to reinforce the religious and ethnic conflicts and young people use them essentially for leisure to forget the violence

Abstract: The present research by qualitative nature had the aim to observe the relations of the pupils and professors establish with the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), their beliefs regarding to the use of ICTs during the graduation process as a Foreign Language Teachers. Therefore, we searched in the Language Degree course the Language Laboratory discipline as environment to raising the pupils and professor beliefs in relation to the speech and use of ICTs. We searched as well, provide to the professor and pupils practice activities with the purpose to observe possible changes in the students‟ beliefs regarding to the speech and use of ICTs. Thus, we adopted a contextual approach (Barcelos, 2001) to the study of beliefs and the historical, political, ideological, cultural and social context of the students. The data were collected during the Language Laboratory disciplines taught in the Language Degree course during two semesters of thirty six hours each. The participants of this research were sixteen students of this discipline and the teacher that taught them. The data were collected through questionnaires, autobiography, semi-structured interviews realized with the pupils and professor all recorded in audio, observation in class, viewing sessions, researcher diary, and audiovisual classes recordings. Data reveals that the pupils and professor have their own beliefs in common relation to the Language Laboratory discipline; therefore they know the importance of ICTs in a highly technological society, and however they present contradictions between speech and practice in relation and use of ICTs. Nevertheless, it is possible to notice positive changes in the speech that points to changes in the student and professor‟s relation front ICTs

Abstract: Society has witnessed a cultural change in the use of information due to new technologies, mainly to computers and Internet. In this context, preservation of digital information emerges as a great challenge to be faced by information professionals, mainly derived from the constant enhancements and changes in information and communication technology (ICT), and in the environments in which information is inserted. Along with this new challenge, a new research area has been initiated, that of digital preservation whose agenda includes problems such as obsolescence of technological equipment (hardware), of computer programs (software), of information supports and of storage formats. Besides technological problems, digital preservation involves cultural, legal and managerial aspects. Although the concerns of the Information Area on the theme have been increasing, there is a need in literature to offer a sound theoretical discussion on issues related to it, and this is the proposal which may turn this research relevant. From the infinite universe of digital preservation applicability, the environment chosen for this research was that of Higher Education Institutions (HEI), where there has been an explosion of documents in digital form produced by teaching-learning activities in graduation and post graduation programs, research projects and community services. The aim of this investigation is to propose a processual management model for digital information preservation in HEI, by means of sound theoretical research on all the aspects involved in the preservation process and on the main information management models. The model should account for any type of HEI, any type of digital document, any type of academic information, and organizational culture should guide all processes. To achieve this goal, the exploratory methodology is adopted in order to be able to obtain a full understanding... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
