The results of the assessment of ovarian reserve before and after the use of various methods of treatment based on ultrasound (counting the number of antral follicles) and biochemical methods showed that the levels of anti-Müllerian hormones and the number of antral follicles were lower in patients with bilateral ovarian disease, and were significantly lower in the group with combined treatment. Pregnancy occurred within a year after the end of treatment in 9 (12,7%) women of the first group and in 21 (22,6%) of the second group.

AbstractMultiple myeloma accounts for 10% of the hematologic malignancies and is characterized by a single clone of plasma cells producing a monoclonal protein. The aim of this review is to summarize the current treatment methods of multiple myeloma. In the last 15 years, the incidence of myeloma has increased in patients younger than 65 years, thus treatment became even more important in order to obtain a long lasting remission or plateau phase. The treatment of this disease is complex and focuses not only on increasing the patients’ survival, but also improving their quality of life.

In a prospective study on patients with chronic painful mid-portion Achilles tendinosis, grey-scale ultrasound (US) showed a decreased tendon thickness and a “normalized” structure in the majority of patients successfully treated with eccentric calf-muscle training. By combining US with colour Doppler examination (CDV), a neovascularisation was shown in the region with structural tendon changes in all painful tendons, but not in any of the pain-free normal tendons. The article presents a new approach to reagent-free liquid treatment systems based on resonance diagnostics and adaptive control technologies. The author discusses the integration of non-contact, sensor-based methods for monitoring the physicochemical parameters of liquids in real time, applicable in water purification, industrial processing, and environmental safety. The system described utilizes intelligent algorithms to detect impurities, adjust treatment protocols, and ensure high accuracy without chemical reagents.

Abstract:
Management of invasive phragmites (Phragmites australis [Cav.] Trin. Ex Steud.) in the United States has proven challenging over the last several decades. Various methods for control exist, but integrated approaches appear to have the most success. However, documentation of vegetation community–wide responses to these approaches remains limited. This study monitored plant community changes at Times Beach, New York, over a five-year period. In concert with mowing and thatch removal in all areas, the study evaluated two herbicides separately and together, representing three experimental treatmen

Abstract:
No standard method exists for determining levels of insensitive munition (IM) compounds in environmental matrices. This project resulted in new methods of extraction, analytical separation and quantitation of 17 legacy and 7 IM compounds, daughter products of IM, and other munition compounds absent from USEPA Method 8330B. Extraction methods were developed for aqueous (direct-injection and solid-phase extraction [SPE]), soil, sediment, and tissue samples using laboratory-spiked samples. Aqueous methods were tested on 5 water sources, with 23 of 24 compounds recovered within DoD QSM Ver5.2 limi

Abstract:
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) conducts regular inspections and maintenance of relief wells to ensure their proper functionality and to identify early signs of malfunction or potential failure. Expenses associated with labor, materials, and transportation are the primary cost drivers of relief-well maintenance. To minimize labor hours and materials, a treatment approach intended to improve logistics and reduce material costs during relief-well treatment was developed and tested. This approach employed external UVC, mechanical brush treatments, and chlorinated-gas-infused water to produ

Abstract:
Propensity score methods, Inverse probability treatment weighting, and marginal structural models are relatively new and attractive alternatives to RCTs for causal inference using observational data. This seminar, taught by Dr. Gary Chan, offers an introduction to these methods using R with hands-on instruction and exercises so that you can understand and apply these methods in your own research. An official Instats certificate of completion is provided at the conclusion of the seminar. For European PhD students, the seminar offers 2 ECTS Equivalent points.
