Abstract:
The authors examine the materials of the American press of 1931 devoted to finding answers to the question of the fault of Japan or China in the conflict. Analysis of the US press reveals a complex and controversial information situation. 1941 was a period of gradual revival of the interest of journalists, editors and politicians in the problem of Sino-Japanesewar. US journalists had come to understanding the new outlines of the geopolitical picture of the world; they had realized that there are at least two global approaches to the issue of the culprits of the conflict (Chinese and Japanese) and that these approaches directly affect the understanding of the new role of the United States in the world.

Abstract:
Using the probability distribution approach, this study explores the weekday effects among Tokyo, London, and New York gold markets. Friday shows positive and significant higher returns, whereas Tuesday shows negative and significant lower returns than other weekdays. The weekend effects still exist, while Monday effects disappear. On average, London was found to have the highest returns, followed by New York and Tokyo. The peak and width estimations show that Tokyo has the highest volatility, while London and New York have similar volatility distributions, implying a similar preference behavior of investors. It also implies that arbitrage opportunities between London and New York could be trivial. After estimating the distribution from Monday to Friday across the three markets, we found that the distribution of return shows a leftward shifting in London and New York, meaning that the weekend effect is starting earlier from Wednesday and Thursday in London and New York. Some strategy implications are valuable to traders or hedgers Vol. 11, Iss: 2, pp.33-44.

Borgert, Udo, and Andrea Bandhauer. "A Reading of Marlene Streeruwitz’s New York. New York." Tekstualia 3, no. 42 (July 1, 2019): 5–14. http://dx.doi.org/10.5604/01.3001.0013.4408.

Abstract:
The paper examines Marlene Streeruwitz’s fi rst play New York. New York. Which, after its fi rst staging in Munich in 1993, caused a controversy because of the provocative treatment of the subject and the use of deconstructive strategies. The analysis undertaken here focuses on both these aspects. Streeruwitz’s play is a mixture of tragedy, comedy and farce, a collage of highly choreographed everyday and surreal scenes, quotations and fi lmic and acoustic elements that highlight the trans-historical continuation of the exploitative patterns inherent in social structures, in which men possess all power. The play is set in an underground men’s toilet, albeit occasionally used by women, at the „Burgstrasse” station in Vienna – a location where the veneer of bourgeois respectability conceals the repeated acts of victimization, exploitation, brutality, abuse, duplicity and indifference. This is a distinctly Austrian Hades, and yet, in Streeruwitz’s bleak diagnosis, the behavioral patterns do not just relate to contemporary Austria but to western civilization in general.
