Abstract:
Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a variety of manifestations, from asymptomatic to acute illness that can affect several organs, although being primarily associated with the respiratory system. The virus binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE-2) receptors in humans and the expression of ACE-2 in heart and kidneys explains the association of COVID-19 with the renal and cardiovascular systems. Case description: Male, 62-year-old, was admitted to the emergency room (ER) for presented shortness of breath, angina pain, and gastric pain. He was a smoker and denied having

Previous work suggests that many non-radiation oncologists who care for cancer patients are uncomfortable referring for RT. Methods: Invitations to complete an online questionnaire were sent to all faculty and resident physicians at St. Barnabas Hospital. Background/Aim. A protection of heart and other organs from ischemic-reperfusion injuries can be provided by remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) by brief episodes of ischemia and reperfusion in distant tissues. The aim of this study was to assess effects of RIPC on early outcomes in patients underwent coronary bypass surgery (CABG) following acute coronary syndrome without persistent ST segment elevation (NSTEMI ACS). Methods. This trial included 42 patients randomized into two groups: the group 1 received RIPC and the group 2 was without RIPC (control group). Pre-, intra- and postoperative

The PVL+MRSA strains included CA-MRSA strains with multilocus sequence type (ST) 59 (major PVL+MRSA in Taiwan), its variants, and worldwide CA-MRSA ST30 strains. Abstract PURPOSE T2-FLAIR mismatch (T2FM) is a highly specific imaging biomarker for isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation in low-grade gliomas. Previous T2FM studies are inconsistent for glioblastoma (GBM)/grade-4 glioma, partly due to low IDH-mutation prevalence in high-grade gliomas. We leveraged a large multi-institutional GBM/grade-4 glioma cohort to analyze the association of partial T2FM and IDH-mutation (T2-hyperintense, FLAIR-hypointense, nonenhancing, nonedema). METHODS We analyzed preoperative MRI of 1500 pathologically confirmed GBM/grade-4 gliomas with known IDH-mutation status

A total of 36 consecutive patients with chronic rheumatic mitral incompetence were operated upon by one surgeon and benefited from MVR-TCP (group I). Here, we report the first molecular characterization of DR CRE isolates and compared them to geographically diverse CRE.
