Metal-cyclopentadienyl bonds in moderately strained silicon-bridged [l]ferrocenophanes and dicarba[2]ferrocenophanes and highly strained dicarba[2]ruthenocenophanes react with diphosphines to form mixed-hapticity metallocycles through haptotropic reduction of one η⁵-,π-bound Cp to η¹, σ-coordination. The dependence of these reactions on the type of phosphine and degree of strain in the metallocenophane was probed. The turnovers of a gold(III) chloride catalyst were increased by 3,300% with the addition of several equivalents of (2,2,6,6-tretramethyl-piperidin-1-yl)oxy and catalytic amounts of copper(II) chloride. Using polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) 1, a commercially available free flowing liquid, the formation of crosslinked polymers 3 using a crosslinker 2 and a variety of catalysts such as Wilkinson's, TBAF and diethylhydroxylamine to aid this process are reported. The application of these polymers to the reduction of acetophenone is also discussed. Secondly, crosslinked PMHS resins incorporating DMAP 4 and pyridine derivatives 5 were developed as scavengers.
