Objective Although balloon sinuplasty (BSP) is increasing in popularity, little is known about which patients are the ideal candidates. The objective of this study is to investigate factors that may be associated with BSP failure. Study Design Retrospective review. Setting Academic center. Subjects and Methods This is a 6-year (July 2011-June 2017) retrospective review of patients who underwent BSP or revision endoscopic sinus surgery (rESS) after BSP within a single tertiary health system. Demographics, clinical findings, and radiographic findings were investigated for association with rESS v

SUMMARY The relationship between calcification and photosynthesis in coral was investigated using standard sea water with enhanced calcium concentration. In standard sea water at 23°C with the calcium concentration increased by 2.5 mmol l-1, incorporation of calcium into the skeleton increased by 30-61 %, depending on the method of data normalisation, and photosynthesis, measured as 14C incorporation into the tissues, also increased by 87 %. At 29 °C, calcium incorporation into the skeleton increased by 54-84 % and 14C incorporation increased by 32 % when sea water calcium concentration was in

Apigenin (Apig) is used as a model drug due to its many beneficial bio-activities and therapeutic potentials. Nevertheless, its poor water solubility and low storage stability have limited its application feasibility on the pharmaceutical field. To address this issue, this study developed nanoemulsions (NEs) using an anti-oxidative polymeric amphiphile, d-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS), hydrogenated soy lecithin (HL), black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) oil, and avocado (AV) oil through pre-homogenization and ultrasonication method. Colorectal cancer remains common, with the “80 per cent by 2018” initiative proposed by the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable. This study was designed to examine obstacles for patients who did not receive their scheduled colonoscopy, focusing on the impact of insurance status. Retrospective chart review was carried out on patients who did not complete their colonoscopy as scheduled from January 2013 to June 2017. The control group consisted of patients who completed their scheduled colonoscopy. One hundred and seventy five patients missed 200 colonoscopies. The most common reasons for canc

There is growing evidence that DNA repair factors have clinical value for cancer treatment. Nucleotide excision repair (NER) proteins, including excision repair cross-complementation group 2 (ERCC2), play a critical role in maintaining genome integrity. Here, we examined ERCC2 expression following epigenetic combination drug treatment. Attention was drawn to ERCC2 for three reasons. First, from online databases, colorectal cancer (CRC) patients exhibited significantly reduced survival when ERCC2 was overexpressed in colon tumors. Second, ERCC2 was the most highly downregulated RNA transcript i

Colon carcinoma is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in both men and women. Automatic colorectal polyp segmentation and detection in colonoscopy videos help endoscopists to identify colorectal disease more easily, making it a promising method to prevent colon cancer. In this study, we developed a fully automated pixel-wise polyp segmentation model named A-DenseUNet. The proposed architecture adapts different datasets, adjusting for the unknown depth of the network by sharing multiscale encoding information to the different levels of the decoder side. Abstract Introduction/Objective In 2014, the WHO simplified the classification of endometrial hyperplasia (EH) into a two-tier system: endometrial hyperplasia without atypia/benign endometrial hyperplasia (BEH) and atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH)/endometrioid intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN), as opposed to the 1994 WHO 4-tier scheme. We conducted this study to assess the diagnostic validity of the two-tier scheme in predicting upgrade to endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EA) in our high-risk patient population. Introduction: Although significant experience has been gained in the technical nuances of endoscopic sinus surgery procedures, the patient-reported outcomes of frontal endoscopic sinus surgery procedures are still poorly understood. In this study we used the validated patient outcome measure Sino Nasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22) to assess the preoperative and postoperative quality of life in patients undergoing extended endoscopic frontal sinus surgery (Draf type 2 and Draf type 3 procedures). Methods: Out of a total of 680 patients undergoing endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery and 186 pat
