Abstract:
Abstract Leaching of macronutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium from soils is of particular interest in the Baltic Sea region because of its adverse effects on water quality. The objective of this study was to evaluate macronutrient leaching in a juvenile hybrid aspen (Populus tremula L. × P. tremuloides Michx.) plantation cultivated in an agroforestry system and fertilized with biogas production residues, wastewater sludge and wood ash in hemi-boreal climate conditions. Analysis of macronutrient concentrations in the soil solution showed that annual macronutrient leaching decreased over time after the establishment of the plantation and application of fertilizers. Moreover, macronutrient leaching was affected not only by meteorological conditions, but also by the type of fertilizer used. During the five years after establishment of the plantation, nitrate-nitrogen leaching decreased up to 99.6%, phosphate-phosphorus leaching decreased up to 97.1%, but potassium ions leaching decreased up to 76.5%. Nevertheless, juvenile hybrid aspen plantations cultivated in an agroforestry system remain an important part in mitigation of leaching of macronutrients from agricultural lands in the Baltic Sea region.

Abstract:
Series of glasses based on (75-x)TeO2-15MgO-10Na2O-xNd2O3, where x=0, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, are synthesized by conventional melt-quenching technique. The nanoglass particles are derived from heat treatment of this glass near crystallisation temperature for 3 hours. The existence of nanocrystalline nature of this glass is confirmed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) technique followed by calculation using Scherrer equation. Meanwhile, the crystallization temperature, Tc determined using Differential thermal analysis (DTA). The fluorescence spectra of Nd3+ions exhibit emission transition of2P3/24I9/2,4G7/24I9/2,2H11/24I9/2, and4F9/24I9/2under 765 nm excitation wavelengths.

BACKGROUND: It is estimated that 8480 persons in USA will be diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) in 2020 accounting to approximately 0.5% of all new cancer diagnoses. The advent of new treatment options has improved the outcomes of this disease and 5-year relative survival rate is 87.4% currently. However, studies have shown that outcomes of HL have been worse in Hispanics (Annals of Oncology, PMID: 22241896) especially in late stage disease and HI experience up to a 35% higher risk of HL specific mortality than whites (AACR,PMID: 26826029). There is an unmet need in the field and dossiers on underrepresented ethnic minorities need to be carefully considered, compared to existing data. Our study aims to compare survival outcomes in Hispanics (HI) vs Non-Hispanics (NH) with HL and to our knowledge this is the largest cohort of patients from an area that represents a large proportion of HI population in the USA. METHODS: This is a retrospective study that examines HL patients obtained from Texas Cancer Registry (TCR) database between 2006-2016 and identified by the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology Third Edition (ICD-O-3) code list. All patient data was provided to us de-identified. Standard demographic variables collected include gender, race, ethnicity, dates at diagnosis and death, primary payer at diagnosis, subtype of lymphoma, stage, treatment modality, poverty index among others. Categorical outcomes were summarized with frequencies and percentages while age (years), the only continuously distributed outcome was summarized with the mean and standard deviation. The significance of variation in the distribution of categorical outcomes with ethnicity (HI vs NH) was assessed with Fisher's Exact tests or Pearson's Chi-square tests as appropriate; age was assessed with T-tests or Wilcoxon tests as appropriate. Survival time (years) was measured from date of primary diagnosis to death. Patients not coded as dead were considered censored on survival time at the date last seen. Survival distributions were described with Kaplan-Meier curves and significance of variation in median survival with ethnicity was assessed with log rank testing. At risk tables were computed based on the Kaplan-Meier estimate of the survival curve. All statistical testing was two-sided with a significance level of 5%. Corrections for multiple testing were not applied. The R language [R Core Team (2013). R: A language and environment for statistical computing. R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria] was used throughout. RESULTS: We identified 6353 patients with HL, of which 1843 were HI (29%), 4510 NH (71%). Median age of diagnosis in HI was 41.3 vs 42.3 in NH (p = 0.084). Males were more frequently affected, 56.5% in HI vs 54.8 in NH (p = 0.213). Most frequent poverty index bracket for HI was between 20-100% vs 10-19.9% for NH (p < 0.001). Most frequent payment model amongst both groups was private insurance with 28.1% in HI vs 45.1% in NH (p < 0.001). Metro/non-border most frequent locality amongst both groups (p value n/a) with Harris county accounting to 15.7% of HL in HI vs 16.5% of HL in NH. Bexar county accounted for 12.5% of HL in HI vs 5.2% of HL in NH. Most common stage at diagnosis in both groups was III/IV with 43% in HI vs 33.7% in NH (p < 0.001). In both groups most frequent chemotherapy included multiple agents, 57.1% in HI vs 48.8% in NH (p < 0.001). Majority in both groups neither got any radiation, 77% in HI vs 76.5% in NH (p = 0.208) nor hematologic transplant, 92% in HI vs 88.6% in NH (p = 0.01). We found the median overall survival time in HI was 10.5 years vs 10.8 years in NH; the overall survival probability for HI vs NH at 2 years was 0.8 [CI 0.771-0.811] vs 0.85 [CI 0.83-0.853], at 5 years was 0.72 [CI 0.694-0.743] vs 0.77 [CI 0.753-0.782] and at 10 years was 0.60 [CI 0.544-0.646] vs 0.65 [CI 0.615-0.679]. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrates that amongst the population of Texas, HI patients with HL have a statistically significant worse overall survival probability (p value < 0.0001) when compared to NH patients with HL. It is of paramount importance that outcomes for all racial and ethnic groups continue to improve but very little is known about the basis for these differences. This warrants a deeper investigation into the biological and non-biological determinants for these differences. Abstract Mealtime difficulties are common in residents with dementia, leading to negative outcomes. Interaction with staff are critical to engage residents in eating. This study characterized dyadic verbal interactions (descriptive statistics), and relationships among verbal behaviors and between verbal behaviors and individual characteristics (bivariate analyses). This secondary analysis of 110 videotaped mealtime observations involved 25 residents and 29 staff (42 unique dyads) in 9 nursing homes (NH). Verbal behaviors (utterances) were coded using the Cue Utilization and Engagement in Dementia mealtime video-coding scheme, addressing 8 positive behaviors and 4 negative behaviors. Staff spoke three times more frequently (76.5%) than residents (23.5%). Nearly all staff utterances were positive (99.2%). 85.1% of residents’ utterances were positive and 14.9% negative. Staff positive utterances were associated with staff negative utterances (p=.02), and resident positive (p<.001) and negative (p<.001) utterances. Staff negative utterances were associated with resident negative utterances (p=.02), but not with resident positive utterances (p=.39). Resident positive and negative utterances were associated (p<.001). Staff positive utterances were associated with staff race (p=.01), and resident age (p=.01), dementia stage (p<.001), and eating function (p<.001). Resident positive utterances were associated with years staff worked as caregivers (p=.02) and in the current NH (p=.01), resident age (p=.04), comorbidity (p=.04), dementia stage (p=.01), and eating function (p=.003). Resident negative utterances were associated with dementia stage (p=.01). Dyadic mealtime interactions were dynamic, interactive and complex. Multiple resident and staff characteristics were related to mealtime verbal interactions. Findings may inform development of individualized, person-centered mealtime care interventions.

Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to establish the significance of the mycoremediation of contaminants such as Cd2+ to achieve sustainable and eco-friendly remediation methods. Industries such as electroplating, paint, leather tanning, etc. release an enormous amount of Cd2+ in wastewater, which can drastically affect our flora and fauna. Herein, we report on the in vitro bioadsorption of Cd2+ ions using fungal isolates obtained from different contaminated industrial sites. The detailed studies revealed that two fungal species, i.e., Trichoderma fasciculatum and Trichoderma longibrachiatum, were found to be most effective against the removal of Cd2+ when screened for Cd2+ tolerance on potato dextrose agar (PDA) in different concentrations. Detailed adsorption studies were conducted by exploring various experimental factors such as incubation time, temperature, pH, inoculum size, and Cd2+ salt concentrations. Based on optimum experimental conditions, T. fasciculatum exhibited approximately 67.10% removal, while T. longibrachiatum shows 76.25% removal of Cd2+ ions at pH 5.0, 120 h incubation time, at 30°C. The inoculum sizes for T. fasciculatum and T. longibrachiatum were 2.5% and 2.0%, respectively. Finally, the morphological changes due to Cd2+ accumulation were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Further, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectroscopy reveals the presence of various functional groups (-CH, –C=O, NH and –OH), which seem to be responsible for the efficient binding of Cd2+ ions over the fungal surfaces.

Denitrification of irrigation runoff was achieved using a fixedcolony of facultative, heterotrophic bacteria in an anaerobic environment. Ammonium nitrate was used to create three influent nitrate concentrations of 50, 150, and 200 ppm NO–3, which were passed through two 17.5-gallon upflow bioreactors at 1.0 gallon/minute and yielded effluent concentrations of 1.9, 5.2, and 15.9 ppm NO–3, respectively. The fate of nitrate, nitrite, and ammonium as they passed up the columns was analyzed at an influent of 100 ppm NO–3, 29 ppm NH+4, 0 ppm NO–2, and 1.0 gpm at five sample regions along the columns. The majority of the nitrates (76.5%) were removed in the first region of the columns with subsequent regions reducing 4.8% to 7.6%. Nitrite was produced (1.0 ppm) within the first region of the columns, with the majority (21.12%) being removed in the final region. Intermediate regions reduced 5.2% to 16.5% of the nitrites. Ammonium concentrations remained mostly steady, with slight reductions (6.3% to 11.1%) occurring primarily in the first two regions of the columns. Colony equilibration (Transient Response Time) was also recorded at 1.0 gpm with NO–3 concentration steps from 150 to 100 ppm NO–3 and 100 to 50 ppm NO–3. About 2 days passed before the colony adjusted to the change.

Abstract:
We have isolated and sequenced a full-length cDNA clone encoding the 78,000 Mr intermediate chain (IC78) of the Chlamydomonas outer arm dynein. This protein previously was shown to be located at the base of the solubilized dynein particle and to interact with alpha tubulin in situ, suggesting that it may be involved in binding the outer arm to the doublet microtubule. The sequence predicts a polypeptide of 683 amino acids having a mass of 76.5 kD. Sequence comparison indicates that IC78 is homologous to the 69,000 M(r) intermediate chain (IC69) of Chlamydomonas outer arm dynein and to the 74,000 M(r) intermediate chain (IC74) of cytoplasmic dynein. The similarity between the chains is greatest in their COOH-terminal halves; the NH(2)-terminal halves are highly divergent. The COOH-terminal half of IC78 contains six short imperfect repeats, termed WD repeats, that are thought to be involved in protein-protein interactions. Although not previously reported, these repeated elements also are present in IC69 and IC74. Using the IC78 cDNA as a probe, we screened a group of slow-swimming insertional mutants and identified one which has a large insertion in the IC78 gene and seven in which the IC78 gene is completely deleted. Electron microscopy of three of these IC78 mutants revealed that each is missing the outer arm, indicating that IC78 is essential for arm assembly or attachment to the outer doublet. Restriction fragment length polymorphism mapping places the IC78 gene on the left arm of chromosome XII/XIII, at or near the mutation oda9, which also causes loss of the outer arm. Mutants with defects in the IC78 gene do not complement the oda9 mutation in stable diploids, strongly suggesting that ODA9 is the structural gene for IC78.

AbstractBackground: Fluid intake before, during and after exercise is the most important way to replace water lost during exercise and avoid dehydration.Aim: To assess fluid intake habits before, during and after exercise in amateur basketball players on both training and competition days.Design: 183 amateur basketball players (87 women and 96 men, 19-29 years old) were interviewed. Data was obtained from a drinking habits questionnaire.Results: Overall, 20.8%, 5.5% and 2.7% of subjects did not drink before, during and after exercise on training days, respectively; 17.5% of subjects did not drink before exercise on competition days. Water was the preferred beverage before, during and after exercise on both training and competition days, with fruit juice being the second most consumed beverage before exercise. All subjects also drank fizzy drinks and other beverages during exercise on competition days. According to the recommendations, good hydration habits were found in 54.6%, 74.2% and 76.5% subjects before, during and after training days, respectively.Conclusions: Most amateur basketball players drink before, during and after exercise on both training and competition days, but not all of them complied with the hydration recommendations.Título: Hábitos de hidratación antes, durante y tras el ejercicio y la competición en jugadores de baloncesto amateurs.Antecedentes: La ingesta de líquidos antes, durante y tras el ejercicio es la forma más importante de recuperar el agua perdida durante el ejercicio y de evitar la deshidratación.Objetivo: Analizar los hábitos de ingesta de líquidos, durante y tras el ejercicio en jugadores de baloncesto amateurs tanto durante el entrenamiento como durante la competición.Diseño: Se entrevistaron 183 jugadores de baloncesto amateurs (87 mujeres y 96 hombres, de 19-29 años de edad). Los datos se obtuvieron por aplicación de un cuestionario de hábitos de bebida.Resultados: Globalmente, 20.8%, 5.5% y 2.7% de los sujetos no bebieron antes, durante y tras el entrenamiento, respectivamente; 17.5% de los sujetos no bebieron antes de la competición. El agua fue la bebida preferida antes, durante y tras el ejercicio, tanto durante el entrenamiento como durante la competición, en tanto que los zumos de frutas fue la segunda bebida consumida antes del ejercicio. Todos los sujetos tomaron bebidas gaseosas y de otro tipo durante la competición. De acuerdo a las recomendaciones, se encontraron buenos hábitos de hidratación en 54.6%, 74.2% y 76.5% de los sujetos antes, durante y tras el entrenamiento, respectivamente.Conclusiones: La mayoría de los jugadores de baloncesto amateurs beben antes, durante y tras el ejercicio, tanto durante el entrenamiento como durante la competición, pero no todos ellos cumplen con las recomendaciones de hidratación.

Introdução: O maior foco das pesquisas odontológicas nos últimos 60 anos tem sido a adesão e suas técnicas. Mais de 7000 artigos já foram publicados a este respeito. O desenvolvimento dos materiais odontológicos adesivos e as técnicas a eles relacionadas possuem uma história interessante, onde descobertas do passado ainda são usadas de alguma forma no presente. Objetivo: expor, através de uma revisão de literatura, um breve histórico sobre materiais e técnicas restauradoras, bem como o estágio atual da odontologia adesiva, com ênfase na tradução de evidências baseadas em pesquisas laboratoriais para a prática clínica. Materiais e Métodos: Foram selecionados livros de preferência do autor para a introdução de conceitos clássicos e artigos de revisão publicados nos últimos 10 anos, utilizando as cinco palavras-chave: “Dental Bonding” AND “Dental Cements” AND “Resin Cements” AND “Adhesives” AND “Ceramics”, sorteados pela melhor combinação na plataforma Pub/Med/MEDLINE. Resultados: Duzentos e um artigos, foram encontrados, sendo utilizados para análise qualitativa e quantitativa aqueles pertinentes ao direcionamento do autor, de acordo com o tema. Conclusão: Considerando as limitações do estudo, concluiu-se que a odontologia adesiva é uma área que segue em constante desenvolvimento, fundamental para a realização de restaurações minimamente invasivas e estéticas. Abstract:
Das römische Ägypten am Ende des zweiten und zu Beginn des dritten nachchristlichen Jahrhunderts ist eine sehr abwechslungsreiche Zeit. Doch in wieweit lassen sich historische Begebenheiten auch auf den Prägungen des Nillandes nachweisen? Die alexandrinischen Münzen sind eine Besonderheit der kaiserlichen Domäne Ägypten, schon weil sie aufgrund ihrer Materialzusammensetzung einen geringeren Wert haben und ausschließlich für den Umlauf in dieser bestimmt sind. In einem Typenkatalog sind zunächst mehr als siebentausend alexandrinische Münzen aus öffentlichen wie auch privaten Sammlungen, aber auch aus dem Münzhandel erfasst worden, um angemessene Informationen zu den severischen Prägungen zu erhalten. Dieser ermöglicht nun einen ersten Gesamtüberblick über die Münzprägung der severischen Zeit, die ebenso abwechslungsreich ist wie die Epoche selbst. Der Hauptfokus liegt dabei auf den ikonographischen Aspekten der Münzrückseiten, wobei geldgeschichtliche Entwicklungen eine ebenso große Rolle spielen, um einen Gesamteindruck vom Bildprogramm jedes einzelnen römischen Kaisers der severischen Dynastie zu bekommen. Einen Ausblick auf die anschließende Zeit der Soldatenkaiser gibt ein Appendix, der die alexandrinischen Prägungen des Maximinus Thrax kurz umreißt.
The history of Egypt during the severan period is a time rich in variety. This epoch is examined on the local coins of the mint of Alexandria which are unique because they were assigned just for the circulation at the Nile. To get an overview about the severan coinage in Egypt more than 7000 alexandrian coins were recorded in different collections and ordered in a typology which should be the basis of the iconographical examimations to get a picture from the iconographic programm of each severan emperor. Following this is an appendix of the coinage of Maximinus Thrax to get a prospect to the following time.
