Abstract:
Following the 1966 General Election, the Labour Party's Home Policy Committee observed that the party had, “for the first time, obtained a majority of the female vote” and remarked, “it would be very satisfactory if we could retain it.” Two years later, the Report of the Committee of Enquiry into Party Organisation emphasized the “imperative that the Party concerns itself with how to win much more support among women.” These comments not only betrayed a serious weakness in Labour's electoral support between 1951 and 1966 but also acknowledged an important lacuna in its broader political outlook.Given the party's electoral difficulties in the period after 1951, the first concern was particularly apposite. Beatrix Campbell, Nicky Hart, and Ina Zweiniger-Bargielowska have underlined the importance of this gender gap favoring the Conservatives after 1950 (see fig. 1). In the elections of 1951 and 1955, for example, Labour's vote among women lagged twelve and thirteen percentage points behind that of the Conservatives. Only in two elections between 1945 and 1970 did Labour enjoy leads among female voters, and these were much less substantial than those held by the Conservatives in 1951, 1955, 1959, and 1964. In rough numerical terms, this difference was potentially very significant. In 1951, for instance, women made up approximately 51.9 percent of the population of England, Scotland, and Wales and roughly 53.8 percent of those of voting age. With an electorate of 28.5 million, this meant a possible political advantage for the Conservatives of 1.2 million votes in an electoral contest where there were only .2 million votes between the two parties.

Abstract:
The title of this paper comes from the famous ‘Schuman Declaration’ of 1950, which signaled the placing of Franco-German production of coal and steel under a single High Authority. It is quite astonishing that from this humble beginning, evolved the European Union of today. The phrase takes on new relevance as the Treaty of Nice paves the way for the biggest single enlargement of the European Union. The current Treaty, completes the Intergovernmental Conference which began in February, 2000. The founding treaties, signed in Paris and Rome in 1951 and 1957 respectively, and the amending treaties, most notably the Treaty on European Union, (Maastricht), and the Treaty of Amsterdam, form the Constitution of the European Union. It is important to note that while the earlier treaties concentrated on economic integration, the later treaties have shifted towards political questions. Bibliographic references to the various treaties have become quite complicated because the Treaty of Amsterdam brought about a renumbering of the articles to both the Treaty on European Union (EU) and the Treaty establishing the European Community (EC).

Dokumenty pochodzą z 1957 i 1958 r.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Such characteristics possibly result in high amounts of this protein in the soils, as well as a reduced rate of decomposition, and it is considered an important fraction of soil organic matter. Humic Substances (HS) have been recognized for a long time as the organic component most widely distributed on the planet, present both in terrestrial and aquatic environments. They are formed from chemical and biological degradation of residues from plants, animal and microbial activity. Although with some progress on structural aspects of glomalin and humic substances, there are few studies that describe their structural differences using a spectroscopic and chemometric approach. To search for answers for these questions, having as a reference the existing environmental and ecological relationships, this study aimed to confirm the structural relationship (differences and similarities) between the glomalin and humic substances obtained from different sources, through the isolation and purification of soil protein fractions related to glomalin (Glo), and the humic substances (HSs) fractions from different environments and composted materials; characterizing glomalin and humic substances obtained by chemical, physical and spectroscopic techniques (elemental composition, UV-vis, FTIR, 13 C CP-MAS RMN, EMS), and by using chemometric techniques (Unscrambler? Abstract:
This dissertation establishes a \"state of the art\" on the Games from the database of theses and dissertations from CAPES between the years 1987 and 2010, and has as main objective to map and discuss the Brazilian academic production, whose object of study or theme is these technological resources, their status in communication, entertainment and education. The problematic of research proposes a discussion about the way games are understood in these educational practices, the media in its technological mediation with the distinct sectors of knowledge. The hypothesis relates to the game, as a research subject can be constituted as a communication strategy relevant to training, with regard to incentives and motivations considered in such cases. Therefore, the main contribution of this paper is to establish an information base that responds to the aspects and dimensions that have been highlighted and privileged in the indicated period and in places that have been produced. The principle underlying methodology takes as a literature review and documentary, as well as a comprehensive quantitative analysis of the data provided. Thereby, the structure of the dissertation includes a first chapter that discusses the rise of the game in the context of the \"network society\", contextualized in the digital age of information in times of globalization, as well as the concept of computer mediated interactivity on the brink technology in the Brazilian market. In a second chapter covers up the game from different classifications with reference to their main purposes in the social, psychological and communicational. Finally, the third chapter deals specifically with the \"state of the art\" research of the Games in Brazil. Setting thus the systematization and categorization of results such as criticism of digital media, the relationship between games and health-physical fitness; the constituent elements of the game, its inclusion in the educational processes, and connectivity to global networks. Finally, we discuss the strictly scientific production in Brazil which crosses the Game with education.

In this sense, this research proposes a study on gender sorted, motivated by the desire of understanding how the text incorporates traces of change and how to keep its constituents over time, in order to point out what are its characteristic traits. Our analysis is centered on the newspaper s section called classificados of Tribuna do Norte, state of Rio Grande do Norte, between the XX and XXI centuries. From the survey data a descriptive and analytical analysis was performed with a corpus of 250 listings, divided between the years 1951-2010. Based on a diachronic analysis, we also seek to investigate the macro-structural aspects of gender and microstructural compositional elements from the opportunities section that originated the Caderno de Classificados . For this reason, this approach has focused on particular Roman German Philology, especially in the works of Coseriu (1980) and Kabatek (2006). The analysis revealed that since its inception in Brazil, the classificados have fixed constituent elements, such as the use of "sell" and "rent" in the title or introduction, but also shows traces of change in the closure of the text, and especially with regard to the division of classificados by area of interest, that in the newspaper called Tribuna do Norte started in the Opportunities section<br>O texto, ao se realizar em diferentes esferas lingu?sticas, em muitos aspectos absorve os processos mut?veis pelos quais a l?ngua passa em decorr?ncia das mudan?as s?cio-hist?ricas. Our research aims at investigating the following question: how Tunisian immigration to the Alpes-Maritimes department does mange to overcome the legal immigration restrictions set by Tunisian and French government to control the migration flow? ” To answer this question, we intend to explore the human, economic and social conditions in which the migration trajectories are embedded. Firstly, in order to refine our research question, we highlight the historical context of Tunisian immigration in France (1956-1984). During this period, Tunisian economy couldn’t offer job opportunities to fight against unemployment. At the same time, the rapid growth of French economy was very tempting for thousands of Tunisians. On both sides of the Mediterranean Sea, public authorities strive to build a legal framework that help controlling migration flow. Yet, these regulations weren’t effective and couldn’t master Tunisian immigration movement. Secondly, we pay attention to the evolution of strategies adopted by Tunisian to reach Alpes-Maritimes department. The interest of Tunisians in this region could be explained by the administrative and economic attractiveness of the department as well as the implementation of Tunisian social networks in this region. Finally, we will consider the question of urban, economic and social insertion. We focus on opportunities provided by the Alpes Maritimes department in terms of employment as well as housing. Similarly, we analyse how the membership of a clan, a social or a familial network could help Tunisian immigrants in facing different kind of difficulties

AbstractOn 9 December 2020, the International Association of Universities (IAU) celebrated the 70th anniversary of the historic signing of the IAU Constitution. The IAU was called into life when UNESCO and its Member States brought together universities of the world to jointly draft the founding text, signed on 9 December 1950, in Conference, in Nice, France. By doing so, they officialised the creation of an Association with a unique global mandate. The text of the Constitution opens with the following words, which still mark the work of IAU.

Abstract:
After 1937 and the Spanish Civil War, although Dos Passos remained concerned with the individual’s struggle for self-determination, his work now focused on his conviction that the paramount monolithic force threatening personal liberties was Communism. That concern likewise shaped his attempts in the 1950s and 1960s to adapt U.S.A. into film. A dramatic revue of U.S.A., by Paul Shyre with Dos Passos, was staged between 1953 and 1960. NBC scheduled but never produced a television adaptation of The Big Money in 1957, and a lawyer, Nick Spanos, held a film option on U.S.A. during the 1950s and early 1960s but never secured a production deal. In 1956, however, Dos Passos undertook the project himself, creating a full screen treatment of U.S.A. that he titled “One Life Is Not Enough.” Never produced, its manuscript focuses on just a few characters, narrative arcs, and modal segments, but does retain his critique of the film industry. Its attempt to translate the trilogy’s film-inflected style into cinematic form lacks the novels’ innovative dynamic, however. Nor does this treatment allow form to articulate ideas as had the also-unproduced “Dreamfactory.” Overt anti-Communism drives the later treatment; its ideological agenda simplifies its aesthetics.

As a leading international economist with prior high-level policy experience, Richard Cooper brought to the National Intelligence Council chairmanship an unusual level of authority on economic issues. This proved valuable in internal policy disputes over Japan’s financial situation, in which the NIC successfully challenged the Treasury Department’s assessment. His tenure also saw the challenges of dealing with the former Yugoslavia after the Dayton Accords brokered a tenuous peace, as well as the NIC’s first foray into nontraditional security issues such as climate change. Finally, the NIC published an influential report called Global Trends 2010, looking out 15 years to anticipate future challenges—and initiating a series of reports issued by the NIC every four years thereafter.

Abstract:
Abstract The application of thermally sprayed coatings is often limited by their porosity as well as their low adhesion. A new approach for high energy beam surface treatment of thermally sprayed coatings is presented using simultanously a lower power level for continuous remelting and pulses of higher power in order to get coatings with good corrosion behaviour and improved adhesion. This technology is applied to titanium as well as to NiCr-coatings on steel substrates. The investigations prove that remelted thermally sprayed coatings with a smooth and dense surface layer, followed by a heat treated section of the coating and a reaction zone at the substrate/coating interface can be obtained. Therefore, a change in chemical composition of the coating is avoided, while at the same time the bond strength of the remelted coatings can be influenced by metallurgical reactions at the interface zone.

Abstract:
Abstract Addition of CaSi2 in steel melt leads to a decrease of oxygen content, an increase of the melt flow capability, an improvement of a metal ductility and weldability. For an estimation of CaSi2 and Si additions effect in conditions of thermal spraying composite powders were produced. A base material of these powders particles is nickel, nichrom and iron. CaSi2 and Si are additional components of the powders (3-12 wt. %). Plasma coatings produced with using of these powders exhibit high density and adhesion. The coatings structure has a high grade of microcrystallinity with a decreasing size of lamels. Oxides content in the coatings decreases with an increasing of CaSi2 and Si content in the composite powders, moreover this effect is more essential in case of CaSi2 addition. Addition of CaSi2 and Si to Ni-base coatings increases a microhardness from 1900-2000 MPa to 2200-2850 MPa. In case of NiCr-base coatings this increasing is from 1800-2100 MPa to 2400-3500 MPa.

Abstract:
Abstract: The text reflects the life experience of Le Corbusier in his humble hut of Cap Martin, where he establishes its particular pact with the nature, that finally becomes a pact with his life. The cottage was built in 1952 as an attached room to the snack bar that runs Robert Rebutato, plumber in Nice, fisherman, who met Le Corbusier during his stays in the E 1027. In the following years the architect endorses the site: L'Étoile Mer, its terrace, the carob tree and the work shed. It is the Mediterranean, but also the friendship with the fisherman, which will bind him to this place, until the day of his death on the rocks. This relationship is shown in several murals, including the portraying of the two friends "À l'Étoile de Mer règne l'amitié". The architect works too on some projects in this place: Roq et Rob and Unités de Vacances series. In these last ones Le Corbusier found to stay during his visits to the coast, but after the death of Yvonne in 1957, he chooses not to carry out their projects, and keep staying at Le Cabanon, the minimal cell room, parasitized to L’Étoile de Mer. He decides not to occupy the territory, keeping virgin it, building the minimum to maintain the maximum empty. Some drawings attest to the exchange of properties between Le Corbusier and Rebutato. In exchange to a large wedge of land that includes the cabin, the architect deliveries the Unités de Camping to Robert. So he becomes owner of an extension of rocks where isn’t possible to build anything, in the way to keep the landscape intact and protect its loneliness. Umińska pozostała aktywna do ostatnich miesięcy swego życia.

Abstract:
Artykuł dotyczy udziału Amerykanek w wysiłku wojennym Stanów Zjednoczonych podczas I wojny światowej w świetle poczytnego magazynu „The Ladies’ Home Journal”. W ramach National Council of Defense powołano oddzielną sekcję – Woman’s Committe (Komitet Kobiecy), którą kierowała Anna Howard Shaw, znana lekarka i zasłużona sufrażystka, honorowa przewodnicząca NAWSA. W artykułach i felietonach zachęcano do różnych form obywatelskiej i patriotycznej aktywności, m.in. poprzez akcję oszczędzania żywności (hooverize), prace charytatywne, zakładanie ogródków wojennych, pomoc farmerom w sezonie letnim, etc.

Together with the qualitative analysis, the founding fathers of urban morphology also proposed quantitative measures of urban fabrics. Allain's methodological work (2004) presents an overview of these quantitative analyses of topological, dimensional and geometrical relations among form elements in urban fabrics. However, urban morphologists have traditionally resisted computer-based geoprocessing of urban form and their calculations were mainly carried out manually. Thanks to technological developments, the number of quantitative studies in urban morphology has increased and fully integrated geoprocessing. More sophisticated computer-aided analyses have increased the potential applications in urban design and in environmental psychology research. Space Syntax (Hillier 1998) and Multiple Centrality Assessment (Porta et al. 2006) are configurational, multi-scale approaches to the analysis of the urban street network, but miss the interplay between streets, building and parcels composing urban fabric. Space Matrix (Berghauser Pont and Haupt 2010) and, more recently, Multiple Fabric Assessment (Araldi and Fusco 2017) are geoprocessing quantitative approaches to the analysis of urban fabric morphology. This study has two aims; (1) classify quantitative urban morphology methods and (2) discuss how these methods could be applied in urban design and environmental psychology. First, the evolution of these methods along with the theories in urban morphology from qualitative to quantitative approaches will be discussed. Methods will be classified by combining their goals, as well as the morphological objects and the scales on which the analyses will focus. Finally, we will discuss how these methods could be combined and used in two different research perspectives: urban design and environmental psychology. Abstract:
Human foreskin fibroblasts secrete several different serine protease inhibitors which differ in size and protease specificities. These proteins, called protease nexins (PNs) all form SDS-resistant complexes with their protease targets. Fibroblast surface receptors recognize the protease-PN complexes and mediate their delivery to lysosomes. PNI is a 45 kilodalton glycoprotein that rapidly inhibits several arg or lys-specific proteases including trypsin, thrombin, and urokinase (k assoc.∼ 4×l06,∼ 6×105 and ∼ 2×105, m−1s−1 respectively). Like antithrombin III, PNI binds heparin and inhibits thrombin at a vastly accelerated rate in the presence of this glycoaminoglycan. Immunofluorescence studies show that in addition to secreting PNI foreskin fibroblasts carry this inhibitor on their surfaces. PNI cDNA has been cloned and sequenced. A mixed oligonucleotide probe derived from PNI N-terminal sequence was used to probe a foreskin fibroblast cDNA library constructed with λGT10. Identification of PNI cDNAs has been verified by sequencing and by expressing active PNI protein in mammalian cells. The full amino acid sequence of PNI, deduced from cDNA sequencing, is 392 residues long and has 30% homology to antithrombin III. An arg-ser pair 32 residues from the C-terminus of the inhibitor is proposed as the reactive center P1-P1 residues. In the hinge region a lys residue is present in a position occupied by a ginor glu residue in other serpins. PNI mRNA exists in 2 slightly different forms:One (αPNI) yields a thr-arg-ser sequence wherethe other βPNI) yields a thr-thr-gly-ser sequence. The presence of the appropriate splice acceptor sites in the genome indicates that these forms are generated from a single gene by alternative splicing. Expressed aPNI and 0PNI proteins both bind thrombin and urokinase. In foreskin fibroblaststhe α form of PNI mRNA predominates over the β form by about 2:1. In foreskin fibroblast cultures secreted PNI inhibits the mitogenic response to thrombin and regulate secreted urokinase. Purified PNI added to human fibrosarcoma (HT1080) cells inhibitsthe tumor cell-mediated destruction of extracellular matrix and transiently, but dramatically, inhibits tumor cell growth. PNI or PNI-like inhibitors may function at multiple physiological sites. The β form of PNI is virtually identical to a glia-derived neurite promoting factor, the cDNA for which has been recently cloned and sequenced by Gloor et al (1). The neurite outgrowth activity of PNI may result from inhibition of a thrombin-like protease that is associated with neurons, since a number of thrombin inhibitors stimulate neurite extension. Recent immunofluoresence experiments, carried out with D. Hantai (Inserm; Paris) demonstrate that anti-PNI antibody intensely stains neuromuscular synapses. In addition, a PNI-like inhibitor is associated with platelets. At low (0.5 nM &lt;) 125I-thrombin concentrations formation of 125I-thrombin-platelet PNI complexes accounts for most of the specific binding of 125I-thrombin to platelets (2). Although the platelet-associated form of PNI is electrophoretically and immunologically indistinguishable from fibroblast PNI, it does not bind urokinase, suggesting that it may be distinct.(1) Gloor, S., K.
