Abstract:

Activities of Czech scientists of the late XVIII-XIX centuries. concerning the study of the Slavic peoples, continued by the prominent Czech Slavic scholar, archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, philologist Lubor Niederle (1865–1944) are discussed in the article. The scientist had a good European education on anthropology and archaeology, studying in Germany and France and during his scientific trips to Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Russia, and the Balkan countries. Collected material formed the basis of his first comprehensive monograph about humanity during the prehistoric era, in particular on the lands inhabited by the Slavs. Among a large number of published researches, most important was the multivolume monograph “Slovanské starožitnosti”, in which scientist analyzed the history of the Slavs from the prehistoric period till the early Middle Ages. Publications of L. Niederle were of great interest to Ukrainian scholars (M. Hrushevskyi, F. Vovk, M. Bilyashivskyi, V. Hnatyuk, etc.). They criticized his Russophile position and defending of the dubious claims of Russian researchers about Ukrainian history. Abstract:

O objetivo do presente trabalho é discutir o papel do associativismo rural na articulação dos agricultores familiares para a busca de estratégias que garantam melhorias em suas condições de vida. Inicialmente, apresenta-se uma discussão relacionada à produção e dinâmica da agricultura familiar no Brasil ao longo do tempo. Em seguida, é refletido sobre a relação entre agricultura familiar e políticas públicas, em especial, o Programa Nacional de Fortalecimento da Agricultura Familiar (PRONAF), enfatizando a importância do mesmo para essa categoria. Por fim, faz-se uma abordagem da questão do associativismo rural como prática significativa para viabilização da consciência dos direitos e deveres dos agricultores familiares e do suprimento das suas necessidades básicas que muitas vezes os são negados. Processo que influencia consideravelmente no processo de produção e reprodução da agricultura familiar. Abstract:

This study deals with the reflections of personality and works of N.I. Kareev in the Czech and Slovak historiography. The contemporary historical science considers N.I. Kareev to be one of the most original and most important representatives of Russian scholarship in the field of social sciences during the late 19th–early 20th centuries. His interdisciplinary and manifold scientific interest in history, sociology, philosophy of history, culturology, and methodology of science has been reflected in the Czech and Slovak humanities. In 1895, N.I. Kareev published in Czech one of his most popular works “The Letters to Studying Youth” (‘Listy studující mládeží’). The introduction to this work, directly addressed to the Czech readers, was particularly valuable. N.I. Kareev’s second work “The Introduction to Sociology” (‘Úvod do sociológie’) was translated into Czech and published in 1907. His articles and the reviews of his works were published on the pages of several Czech journals. N.I. Kareev met in person with many historians, such as Jaroslav Bidlo, Jaroslav Goll, Josef Pekař, and Ľubomír Niederle, as well as with some politicians, such as Tomáš Masaryk and Karel Kramář. His scholarly works on the history of Western Europe were based on both his research on the Austrian Empire and his good knowledge of local realia (including the Slavic ones). After 1989, the Czech and Slovak scholars – historians, philosophers, and sociologists – became increasingly focused on the academic work of N.I. Kareev.

Abstract:

Abstract Over the past one hundred years, folk clothing has been considered one of the most significant elements of cultural heritage and has been perceived in this way not only by experts but, for many decades, by its wearers as well. In the present study, the author seeks to find an answer, based on an analysis of older expert texts, as to what formed the theoretical basis for this process, who were its representatives, at what conclusions they arrived, and how the methods of their work were reflected in the formulation of their conclusions. From the historical perspective, the study summarises the opinions on folk clothing, projected through the idea of Slavic unity, as can be observed in the case of Jan Koula and, through the reception of these opinions, also in the case of Lubor Niederle, Drahomíra Stránská and Viera Nosáľová. This work also offers newer reflections from the studies by Alena Jeřábková on the shaping of folk clothing within the Carpathian culture. Through the example of women’s linen skirts, the material part of the study seeks to point out the pitfalls of these approaches and highlight the need to study the construction of folk clothing from a longer historical perspective. Only in this way is the effect of clothing styles in the form of domestication of the individual pieces of stylish clothing evident, combined with older clothing layers. Even though most parts of folk clothing are not proto-Slavic and do not necessarily relate to the culture of the Carpathian curve, as a whole, they prove well the way the countryside managed to accept the transformations of contemporary fashion over the last four centuries and to incorporate them into a unique clothing complex.

Abstract:

The article presents the interest of Polish archaeology before 1945 in the prehistory and early history of the Slavs. The pioneers were Count Jan Potocki towards the end of the 18th century a representative of the Enlightenment period, and then Zorian Dołęga Chodakowski. Chodakowski’s work from 1818 about the Slavs before Christianity opened the Romantic period in Polish antiquarianism. At this time the greatest Polish poets were writing important works relating to the pre-Christian past of Poland, and a statue of the pagan god Światowid (Światowit) was found in the river Zbrucz. Studies of the earliest Slavs were continued by the positivists. At the beginning of the 20th century, one of them was E.Majewski from Warsaw, a promotor of the works of L. Niederle devoted to Slavic antiquities. In the period when the cultural-historical school dominated, prehistoric archaeology was becoming ever more closely associated with nationalism and politics (G. Kossinna). Majewski was one of the first critics of Kossinna’s method and works. In the years 1919–1944 Majewski’s pupil, L. Kozłowski, and J. Czekanowski studied the origin of the Slavs. Both were professors of the University in Lviv. Together with J. Kostrzewski, a prehistorian from Poznań, they regarded the Lusatian culture from the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age as ancient Slavic. This view was important as propaganda in the political and scholarly dispute with prehistorians of the Third Reich. Its significance increased after the discovery and start of excavations of a fortified settlement of the Lusatian culture in Biskupin, in northwestern Poland. During the Second World War, Biskupin was excavated by H. Schleif from the SS-Ahnenerbe. The intention was to refute Kostrzewski’s views. At the same time, Kostrzewski and Kozłowski were writing works intended to confirm the ancient Slavic character of the Lusatian culture. Today their views constitute an interesting chapter in the history of science. Key words: early history of the Slavs, Światowid, Biskupin, Romantic period, Lusatian culture.

Abstract:

Abstract Background Bendamustine is a chemotherapeutic drug with structural similarities to both alkylating agents (nitrogen mustard derivative) and purine analogues (benzimidazole ring). Theoretically, due to its nucleoside-like properties it might be associated with more infections. Data in the literature is lacking regarding the infection-related adverse events of bendamustine-containing regimens. Thus, we aimed to assess this risk. Methods Systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials comparing bendamustine containing regimens (alone or combined with other chemotherapeutic agents and/or rituximab) to any other regimens. Trials evaluating bendamustine for any indication (hematological as well as solid malignancies) were included. A comprehensive search of The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, conference proceedings and references was conducted until July 2013. Two reviewers appraised the quality of trials and extracted data. Outcomes assessed were: any infections, grade 3-4 infections, fatal infections, grade 3-4 neutropenia and grade 3-4 lymphopenia. For dichotomous data, relative risks (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated and pooled. We used fixed effect model to pool data, unless there was significant heterogeneity, in which case we used the random effects model. Results Ten trials conducted between the years 1998 and 2013 and randomizing 2360 patients were included. We included 4 trials of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (Rummel 2013, Rummel 2010, Herold 2006 and the Bright study 2013), 3 trials of CLL (Knauf 2009, Niederle 2013, LeBlond 2013), 1 trial of patients with multiple myeloma (Ponish 2006) and 2 trials of breast carcinoma patients. The bendamustine arm included: bendamustine alone (2 trials), bendamustine-rituximab (BR) (4 trials), bendamustine, vincristine, prednisone (BOP) (1 trial), bendamustine, MTX. 5FU (BMF) (2 trials) and bendamustine, prednisone (BP) (1 trial). The comparator arms in 8 of the trials included other alkylating agents: chlorambucil, R -CHOP, cyclophosphamide, MTX, 5-FU (CMF) and melphalan-prednisone (MP) – each regimen used in 2 trials and COP used in 1 trial. In 2 trials the comparator arm included fludarabine based regimens (alone or with rituximab). There was no statistically significant effect for bendamustine on the rate of any type of infection (RR 1.06 [95% CI 0.83, 1.34], 6 trials, figure). This analysis included only trials of hematological malignancies. There was no increase in the rate of grade 3-4 infections (RR 1.45 [95% CI 0.86, 2.45], 7 trials) or fatal infection (RR 0.69 [95% CI 0.30, 1.58], 3 trials). Data were too scarce to analyze by specific types of infections separately. There was no increase in the rate of grade 3-4 neutropenia in the bendamustine arm (RR 0.9 [95% CI 0.58, 1.42], 6 trials). This was true both when the comparator was alkylating agent containing regimens (RR 0.87 [95% CI 0.52, 1.48], 4 trials) or fludarabine containing regimens (RR 1.02 [95% CI 0.54, 1.91], 2 trials). There was a significant increase in grade 3-4 lymphopenia in the bendamustine arm compared to alkylating agent containing regimens (RR 1.95[95% CI 1.54, 2.47). Conclusions Our systematic review demonstrates no effect of bendamustine on the rate of infections when compared to either alkylating agents or fludarabine, in hematological as well as in solid malignancies, despite an increase in lymphopenia. Thus, bendamustine remains a safe therapeutic option. The main drawback of this meta-analysis is the heterogeneity between malignancies and treatments. Abstract:

The purpose of the study was the comparison of production costs and profitability of dessert apple production between Poland and Germany in the years 2000-2014. To accomplish this data from farms located at Niederelbe region in Germany published yearly in one of local trade journals for growers, were used. In Poland the data were taken from, commercial apple farms located in Grójec region, which were purposively selected from bigger set of farms investigated previously by authors. The farms from Niederelbe region turned out to be more profitable than Polish ones. The biggest comparative advantage of lower human labour costs on the site of Polish farms seem to be not threatened in the coming years. To strengthen their competitive position, the Polish apple producers should seek to increase the orchard area in holdings.

Abstract:

Zusammenfassung. Viele verschiedene Strukturen des Auges werden in der Höhe nicht nur wegen der dort herrschenden Hypoxie, sondern auch aufgrund weiterer relevanter Umweltfaktoren wie UV Strahlung, Kälte oder niedere Luftfeuchtigkeit beeinträchtigt. Diese Veränderungen zeigen sich sehr häufig an den der Umwelt exponierten, meist avaskulären Strukturen wie der Hornhaut oder dem Tränenfilm. So kommt es in der Höhe zum Beispiel zu einer akuten Photokeratitis, einem Hornhautödem oder zu einem instabilen Tränenfilm. Die Schädigungen dieser Strukturen können bis zu einer relevanten Funktionsbeeinträchtigung des visuellen Systems mit verminderter Sehfähigkeit führen. Insbesondere präventive Massnahmen sind deshalb von entscheidender Bedeutung.

Abstract:

Zusammenfassung Der Beitrag untersucht das Spannungsfeld zwischen Reflexion und Intuition, welches sich durch die hohe Komplexität von Beratungssituationen ergibt. Auf Grundlage der Theorie der Persönlichkeits-System-Interaktionen (PSI) unterscheiden wir eine niedere und eine höhere Form von Intuition, um einer undifferenzierten Verwendung des Begriffs Intuition entgegenzuwirken. Dazu werden Zwei-Prozess-Modelle der Informationsverarbeitung erweitert, welche lediglich zwischen bewusst-analytischen und unbewusst-assoziativen Prozessen unterscheiden. Eine zusätzliche Differenzierung bietet Lösungen für Berater/innen, die zwar nach einer Vereinfachung komplexer Beratungssituationen suchen, gleichzeitig aber dem Reflexionsanspruch der Beratungsformate Coaching und Supervision gerecht werden wollen.

Zusammenfassung Im Sommer 1812 sah das Russische Reich einer militärischen wie finanziellen Katastrophe entgegen. Noch bevor die napoleonische Grande Armée russisches Territorium betrat, hatte sich das Russische Imperium, erschüttert durch vergangene Kriege, in einer tiefen Schuldenkrise befunden. Mit dem Vormarsch der französischen Truppen geriet das Zarenreich zudem an den Rand der militärischen Niederlage. Russland stand einer doppelten Krise gegenüber – dem drohenden Staatsbankrott wie der erwarteten Eroberung seiner Hauptstadt. Denn anders als die Meistererzählung jüngerer Darstellungen nahelegt, gingen Zar Alexander I. und seine Berater davon aus, Napoleon werde St. Petersburg – und nicht etwa Moskau – angreifen und erobern können. Wie bewältige Zar Alexander I. die Kontingenz der Krise? Der Ungewissheit über den Fortgang des Krieges und der Unsicherheit seiner finanziellen Verteidigungsressourcen, zweier ineinander verschränkter Bedrohungen, begegnete der Zar durch aktives Zukunftshandeln: Binnen weniger Tage verordnete er, Schätze und Geldreserven aus St. Petersburg zu evakuieren und Assignaten in großer Stückzahl zur Kriegsfinanzierung zu drucken. Die Strategien finanzpolitischer und evakuatorischer Prävention lassen erkennen, wie der Zar seinen Staat verstand, wie es seinen Beamten gelang, die Verteidigungs- und Regierungsfähigkeit des Reiches zu wahren und welchen Anteil die zivile Verwaltung daran hatte, die Niederlage Russlands 1812 abzuwenden.
