The increasing significance of the effects of climate change in Nigeria necessitates research on how stakeholders can respond. With climate change being a major focus of global action, and social media emerging as a key tool for social mobilization, this research focuses on understanding how Nigeria's social media space can be leveraged to improve climate change mobilization among Nigerian users. To understand the current interactions with climate change topics, this study examined Nigeria's Twitter space, analyzing the level of engagement and sentiments about climate change. Furthermore, the

Climate change is a global issue that affects every country, a pressing issue that requires global response. Nigeria is one of the countries that are most affected by climate change. The Nigerian government has recognized the impact of climate change on the country's economy, health, and environment, and has put in place laws and policies to address the issue. However, the question remains whether these laws and policies are effective in mitigating the impact of climate change or if they are simply symbolic gestures with no real impact on the ground. Abstract Nigeria, via the use of Hydrocarbon Reforming technologies, can create a unique link between its existing & planned petroleum projects and Hydrogen production; Clean Hydrogen will be produced from Petroleum fields, water resulting from hydrogen combustion could also be produced for host communities and climate change will be mitigated. This interdisciplinary paper identifies technologies that could be used to produce hydrogen from petroleum fields / refineries, facilitating cleaner energy generation. Abstract Over the years, immediate action has been required to prevent climate change effects through clean energy. However, this step represents a threat of existence to third-world countries such as Nigeria, which relies heavily on royalties and tax revenues from oil and gas reserves. The Nigerian government is a signatory to the Paris Agreement, but as part of that decarbonization project and the transition to net-zero, issues of gas come up, and we talk of just and equitable transition. It is thus important to consider the various realities of developing economies. This paper discussed Nig

Abstract. The cement-based construction industries particularly in developing countries like Nigeria faces numerous challenges amongst are natural resource depletion, energy consumption, production costs, and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) that contribute to climate change. Therefore, the creation of an innovative and environmentally friendly binder that will serve as an alternative building material with sound adaptation and application in construction is imperative. Portland Limestone Cement (PLC) binders have been replaced by an alkali-activated binder (AAB) which appears to have better pro

Abstract The population of Africa is estimated to be about 1.5 billion, 25% of world population but the continent accounts for only 3.2% of global electricity generation (2.2% coming from South Africa, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco). This translates to the lowest per capita energy of any continent. The rapidly growing population in Africa will inevitably result in the emergence of more African cities and this underscores a need to urgently address the energy poverty concerns presented. The global energy landscape is changing, and Africa finds herself at a vantage point in the complex interplay be

This article presents an analysis of the Electricity Act (EA) 2023 in Nigeria, a pivotal legislation that repeals the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) 2005 and establishes a new framework for the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). The study delves into the historical context of Nigeria's power sector, the challenges it has faced, and the reforms undertaken to address these challenges. The EA 2023 is examined in detail, highlighting its key innovations such as the decentralisation and de-monopolisation of the power sector, the establishment of State electricity markets, and th

Effective forest management is required to reduce deforestation, protect local communities, tackle climate change, and restore biodiversity. Like other countries in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Nigerian federal and decentralised governments have to find a balance between managing their forests sustainably, and other demands for the trees and land. Local actors use the forest for economic activities, such as harvesting trees for charcoal or timber, and others want to expand agricultural land. No single policy solution can guarantee to sustainably manage forests and halt deforestation. Land use reg

The success of any climate policy depends not only on how effective the solution is, but on the political will to make it happen. These two considerations have their own feedback loop. Detractors use doubts about performance, scale, and cost, to suppress political will. And without that will, solutions may fail to attract the investment needed to drive up performance and scale, and drive down cost. Various technologies that can help stop climate change appear to be caught in this vicious cycle. But what if the political will is misreading the electorate? What if the people want these technolog
