Abstract:
This project consists on developing an automatic night driving system in a simulation environment. The simulator I have used is TORCS. TORCS is an Open Source car racing simulator written in C++. It is used as an ordinary car racing game, as a IA racing game and as a research platform. The goal of this thesis is to implement an automatic driving system to control the car under night conditions using computer vision. A camera is implemented inside the vehicle and it will detect the reflective light-markers placed along the roadside. The car is oriented only with the lights the camera can see.

Abstract:
For many older adults, night driving is difficult due to age-related changes affecting vision under low light and glare conditions. However, there is a lack of evidence for healthcare practitioners to base their advice to patients about visual fitness to drive safely at night. This research investigated the relationships between self-reported vision-related night driving difficulties, visual function tests and night driving performance. It was found that vision tests conducted under lower light levels, similar to the night driving environment, were important for predicting poorer night driving

It is important for drivers not only to see but also to be seen. This project is primarily concerned with the latter criteria with particular reference to the conspicuity value of vehicle lighting during dusk. A one year survey of vehicle light use in dusk was carried out at a number of sites in the South-East Queensland area. The use of vehicle lights was found to be extremely variable and influenced by a number of factors, especially the weather. Clear skies at dusk appear to mislead many drivers as to their vehicles conspicuity at the roadway level. Consequently they often delay

Methods chosen were recordings of pedestrian behaviour in Linköping by means of a stationary video camera as well as video camera mounted in a car. Pe

This study compared two LED luminaires and their abilities to provide detection distance and color recognition distance of potential roadway hazard. Detection distance is regarded as a metric of visibility. Color recognition distance is a metric for comparing the impact of the (Correlated Color Temperature) CCT of each luminaire and their color contrast impact. Mesopic vision, the mode of vision most commonly used for night driving, was considered in this study. Off-axis objects were presented to participants to assess the peripheral abilities of the luminaires. The impacts of luminance and co

Further, we tackle the specific problem of localising an autonomous vehicle at night, in urban environments, using vision. In general, robotics applications have some unique and unusual data requirements. The curation and management of such data are often overlooked. An emerging theme is the use of large corpora of spatiotemporally indexed sensor data which must be searched and leveraged both offline and onli
