Abstract:
Proxy-SU(3) symmetry is an approximation scheme extending the Elliott SU(3) algebra of the sd shell to heavier shells. When introduced in 2017, the approximation had been justified by calculations carried out within the Nilsson model. Recently our group managed to map the cartesian basis of the Elliott SU(3) model onto the spherical shell model basis, proving that the proxy-SU(3) approximation corresponds to the replacement of the intruder orbitals by their de Shalit-Goldhaber partners, paving the way for using the proxy-SU(3) approximation in shell model calculations. The connection between the proxy-SU(3) scheme and the spherical shell model has also been worked out in the original framework of the Nilsson model, with identical results.

Abstract:
The γ-decay from [Formula: see text] isobaric analog levels was studied in odd-mass nucleus 23 Na . The investigations were performed using the proton beam at E p = 1623, 1721, 1803 and 1835 keV. It was shown that during γ-decay, mainly low-lying levels of 23 Na are populated; among these levels, we could isolate rotational bands with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], based on the seventh [Formula: see text] and ninth [Formula: see text] orbits of the Nilsson scheme, respectively. The intensities of the M1 transitions were compared with the results of the calculations within the Nilsson model.

Abstract:
We present an alternative approach to shell diagonalizations for microscopic description of nuclear structure. First we minimized the total system energy solving the Hartree-Fock equations within the shell model valence space. The results are compared with exact shell model diagonalization and an exact soluble SU(3) hamiltonian. Then, we developed procedures to obtain the same of type calculations with constrained conditions on the quadrupole degrees of freedom to obtain the full potential energy surfaces. The angular momentum restauration was obtained through projection method to generate rotionnal spectra of nuclei in both axial and triaxial cases. Finally the generate coordinate method was applied to mix several of these non-orthogonal Slater determinants. Among several applications we managed to describe deformed nuclei along the N=Z line around 80Zr or a new island of deformation at N=50. Finally, a first application in the superheavy region predicts a spherical gap for the Z=114, N=184 isotope

Abstract:
The chapter gives an overview of nuclear physics from the discovery of the neutron to ongoing research topics. General properties of atomic nuclei are considered: the valley of stability, the nuclear potential, the pairing of nucleons and the strong force. The semi-empirical liquid drop model is presented as a description of relatively large atomic nuclei. The nuclear shell model is described, along with its relationship to magic numbers and beta decay, and is then refined to produce the Nilsson model. Gamow tunnelling is used to explain alpha decay and the Geiger–Nuttall law. It is then applied to nuclear fission and used to calculate rates for thermonuclear fusion in stars. ITER and controlled nuclear fusion are also discussed. Production of superheavy nuclei is detailed and the existence of exotic nuclei, such as halo nuclei, is considered. The Yukawa theory of the strong force is discussed, including its relationship to QCD.

Abstract:
Sensitive to the demands expressed by society concerning the need to boost foreign language competences in schools, The Faculty of Education of a university based in Catalonia, Spain, set up an English-Medium Teacher Education Bachelor's Degree (EMI-TED) based on the “Internationalisation at Home” model formulated by Nilsson. Basing itself on ethnographic and documentary data collected in the course of years 1 to 4 of the pilot project, this chapter reports on the process followed by the team of EMI instructors in their attempts to plan and deliver their subjects while remaining responsive to the unique challenges posed by the use of an additional language as the vehicle for learning. More specifically, it reports on their attempts to collaboratively design a planning tool that would help them to organise their teaching and cater for the simultaneous development of both the students' professional competences and their language and discourse competences in English. The chapter ends with a set of recommendations for L2-medium teachers and teacher educators.
