Abstract:
Kõik loomulikud kohanimed on sünnihetkel nime andva väikse kogukonna jaoks motiveeritud. Artiklis on tutvustatud nimeandmispõhimõtteid – millised on kohanimede tekkemotiivide kõige tavalisemad võimalused. Kohanimedes esinevate loomanimetuste puhul saab ilmekalt näidata, kuidas nime leksikaalse koostise mõistmine üksinda ei aita veel mõista, millisest situatsioonist on kohanimi alguse saanud või miks ühel konkreetsel kohal on just seda loomanimetust sisaldav nimi. Sissejuhatavalt peatutakse kohanimede leksikaalsemantilisel ja tekkesemantilisel läbipaistvusel. Nimeandmispõhimõtteid on artiklis klassifitseeritud loomanimetuste leksikaalse kategooriaga kõige paremini kokku sobival moel: 1) sündmus; 2) looma tüüpiline esinemine kohas; 3) nimes väljenduv metafoor; 4) tüüpilise esinemise või metafoori alusel tekkinud liitsõna; 5) kohaga on seotud inimene, kelle nimi pärineb loomanimetusest; 6) olemasoleva kohanime varieerimine. Animal and bird names in place names and emergent naming principles. All naturally formed place names are motivated by the small naming community at the moment of their birth. The article introduces some principles of naming, offering an insight into the most common motives and patterns of place name formation. Animal names occurring in place names exemplify how understanding a name’s lexical content is not enough to understand which situation has motivated this particular place name, nor why a certain place has a name containing that particular animal name. In the introduction, the lexical-semantic and syntactic-semantic transparency of place names are discussed. The naming principles in the article have been classified to most closely fit the lexical categories of the animal names. Those naming principles are: 1) event; 2) animal’s typical occurrence at the place; 3) metaphor expressed in the name; 4) compound word based on typical occurrence or metaphor; 5) person whose name comes from an animal name and who has some connection to the place; 6) variation of the existing place name. The article also discusses direct and indirect naming. When a name is given directly, a direct semantic link is created between the name and the place. In the case of indirect naming, the naming is based on associations occurring as a clearly undefined complex.

Abstract:
Understanding crystallization behaviors is of utmost importance for developing robust amorphous pharmaceutical solids. Herein, the crystal growth behaviors of amorphous anti-inflammatory drug nimesulide (NIME) are systemically investigated in the glassy and supercooled liquid state as a function of temperature. A sudden over-tenfold increase is observed in the bulk crystal growth of NIME on cooling below its glass transition temperature (T g). This fast growth behavior is known as a glass-to-crystal (GC) mode and has been reported in some molecular glasses. Fast surface crystal growth of NIME can persist up to T g + 57°C with a weak jump in its growth rates at 30–40°C. In addition, surface crystal growth and GC growth of NIME exhibit an almost identical temperature dependence, supporting the view that GC growth is indeed a surface-facilitated process. Moreover, the bubble-induced fast crystal growth of NIME is observed in the interior of its supercooled liquid with approximately the same growth kinetics as surface crystal growth. These findings are relevant for a full understanding of the surface-related crystallization behaviors and physical stability of amorphous pharmaceutical formulations.

Abstract:
Abstract Nearly two decades after its inception as a workshop at the Association for Computing Machinery Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) exists as an established international conference significantly distinct from its precursor. Although this origin story is often noted, the implications of NIME's history as emerging from a field predominantly dealing with human–computer interaction (HCI) have rarely been discussed. In this paper we highlight many of the recent—and some not so recent—challenges that have been brought upon the NIME community as it attempts to maintain and expand its identity as a platform for multidisciplinary research into HCI, interface design, and electronic and computer music. We discuss the relationship between the market demands of the neoliberal university—which have underpinned academia's drive for innovation—and the quantification and economization of research performance that have facilitated certain disciplinary and social frictions to emerge within NIME-related research and practice. Drawing on work that engages with feminist theory and cultural studies, we suggest that critical reflection and, moreover, mediation is necessary to address burgeoning concerns that have been raised within the NIME discourse in relation to methodological approaches, “equity, diversity, and inclusion,” “accessibility,” and the fostering of “rigorous” interdisciplinary research.

Abstract:
This article advocates for a dialogue about research traditions and paradigms within the community around New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME). Although the research community collectively values interdisciplinarity, the author argues that we have not done enough to acknowledge and account for the inevitable epistemological differences that emerge with disciplinary diversity. Over time, NIME has seen a rise in the proportion of technical reporting and a concomitant decline in practice-based research, which historically played a more central role. Exploration and explication of the values, assumptions, and expectations that circumscribe legitimacy in practice-based research are needed in order to maintain and advocate for its relevance.

Abstract:
BackgroundCytosine arabinoside (CA) and prednisolone are drugs commonly used together in the management of canine non-infectious meningoencephalitis (NIME). The aim of this study was to report the haematological findings before and after CA and prednisolone treatment and identify any adverse haematological events in this clinical setting, following the veterinary cooperative oncology group established common terminology criteria for recording adverse events following administration of chemotherapy or biological antineoplastic therapy.ResultsWhile 48 patients with a presumptive diagnosis of NIME had pretreatment haematology results, only 12 patients met the inclusion criteria of also having post-treatment haematology results available for review after being treated with prednisolone and CA at a standard dose (200 mg/m2) in a single referral hospital in the UK. Forty-nine post-treatment haematology results were available for these 12 patients.ConclusionsFour adverse haematological events were identified in four patients. None of these events were convincingly attributable to CA administration.

Abstract:
Over the last decade Laptop Orchestras and Mobile Ensembles have proliferated. As a result, a large body of research has arisen on infrastructure, evaluation, design principles and compositional methodologies for Computer Music Ensembles (CME). However, little has been addressed and very little is known about the challenges and opportunities provided by CMEs for creativity in musical performance. Therefore, one of the most common issues CMEs have to deal with is the lack of a systematic approach to handle the implications of the performative paradigms they seek to explore, in terms of their creative constraints and affordances. This is the challenging goal this thesis addresses, and for attaining so it first seeks to find a common ground in the strategies developed for assessing creativity in different performative setups, for later proposing an informed pathway for performative engagement in CMEs. Our research combines an exploratory stage and an experimental stage. The exploratory stage was informed by out artistic praxis with our own CME, the Barcelona Laptop Orchestra. Through the study of the multi-user instruments developed over the past years, we identified the creative constraints and affordances provided by different performative paradigms. Informed by the findings provided by our artistic research, the experimental stage addressed the study of musical creativity through the performance analysis on specifically designed multi-user instruments. For such purpose we proposed a novel computational methodology to evaluate the creative content of a musical performance. Two experiments were conducted to incorporate our computational methodology into ecologically valid scenarios, aimed at a better understanding of the relationship between topologies of interdependence and creative outcome. For both experiments, we captured performance data from ensemble improvisations, from where the creativity metrics were then computed. As a preliminary step, we investigated the performative engagement and sharing of musical ideations in an ensemble scenario. In a further step, we computed the creativity attributes to comparatively evaluate performances under different scenarios. The findings provided quantitative evidence of the differences between musical creativity in individual, ensemble and interdependent scenarios. Additionally, the findings point out what strategies performers adopt to best keep their own musical voice in interdependence scenarios, and what novel creative behaviors may be promoted through new topologies of interdependence. Our findings shed light on the nature of performers’ creative behavior with interdependent multi-user instruments, and show that the introduced methodology can have applications in the broader context of analysis of creativity in musical performance.

Abstract:
Our work with the Bachelors thesis has resulted in nine short informational movies which have as a purpose to give information about BTH ( Blekinge Institute of Technology ), and the region to interested people. Four of these movies include information on the region, living/transportation, the school and the social amenities provided for the students. We have also made four movies about different students from BTH. We want to show that there are students from Kiruna in the north to Lund in the south, and that there are many different kinds of people you can meet when you begin your time as a student here. Due to the fact that there are nine different movies there will be variation, and you will accept the information in a better way than in traditional informational movies. Last but not least, we made an event movie which does not include a speaker text but instead communicates through the clips and the music in it. In this movie there is also a showreel with different projects from students on BTH.

Abstract:
We consider the problem of finding, constructing, and classifying nice polynomials. After a short history of previous results, we present a general property of nice polynomials which leads to an important modification of the concept of equivalence classes of nice polynomials. We give several important results on nice symmetric or antisymmetric polynomials with an odd number of roots, which dramatically increase the speed of a computer search for examples. We present complete solutions to the symmetric three root case, the general three root case, and the symmetric four root case. We also give the relations between the roots and critical points for the general four root case and the symmetric five, six, and seven root cases. Using the relations for the general three and four root cases, we state, without proof, the suggested pattern for the relations for the general N root case. We present several important examples antisymmetric polynomials with five distinct roots and the first known examples of nice polynomials with six distinct roots. To conclude our study, we present several open problems and new conjectures suggested by our results, examples, and computer searches.

Abstract:
Tarkastelen pro gradu -tutkielmassani suomalaisten jääkiekkoseurojen nimiä. Aineistoni sisältää kaikki vuonna 2015 Suomen Jääkiekkoliittoon kuuluvien seurojen nimet. Niitä on yhteensä 360. Jääkiekkoseurojen nimistössä on tällä hetkellä menossa murrosvaihe. Seurat vaihtavat nimiään monesta eri syystä. Vanhat nimenosat halutaan usein säilyttää uudessa nimessä.

Abstract:
This is a collection of short stories that traces a chronological movement through one family's experience of the mother's illness. Each piece in the collection is meant to be an independent, free-standing short story. Each story is different, told from distinctive points-of-view, angles, and voices. However, every story covers a span of time within the nine months of the family's experience, in the presented order, as part of a collective movement toward the core. All together, the pieces hope to reflect a mosaic of sorts--one that tells a story that cannot otherwise be told.

Abstract:
The field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is devoted to understand the interplay between people and computers. However, it is mainly based on explicit control by means of devices such as the keyboard and mouse. As systems become increasingly complex, this traditional approach constitutes a bottleneck for seamless HCI. However, HCI can incorporate implicit user information through Physiological Computing, which monitors psychophysiological states (affective, perceptive or cognitive) for adapting computer systems without explicit user control. At the output level, sound appears as an excellent medium for representing implicit states, as it can be processed faster than visual presentation, can be easily localized, it has a good temporal resolution, and account for multiple data display. In this dissertation we conceptualize, prototype and evaluate sonic interactions for implicit Physiological Computing in the context of HCI, focusing on their perceptualization quality, the role of mapping complexity, and their meaningfulness in the musical domain.

Abstract:
In this workshop, we propose the first steps towards consolidating a Latin American (LATAM) New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) Research Community. We aim to start a discussion and generate ideas around shortterm actionable initiatives that a LATAM NIME Research Community could explore in the near future. We will discuss various topics centered around three main areas: (1) The creation of a LATAM NIME network, (2) Exploring LATAM NIME perspectives, and (3) the Next Steps for LATAM NIME. After this activity, we will have a plenary discussion where we will share ideas for action and reflections. Lastly, we list a series of expected outcomes of the workshop, although we acknowledge that many others may emerge during the workshop. We look forward to taking the first steps towards a LATAM NIME Community and the future of this community within and beyond NIME, opening to other communities in LATAM, and stirring policy changes to support the development of our local communities.

Petersen, Rodney, Danielle Santos, Matthew C. Smith, Karen A. Wetzel, and Greg Witte. Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework). National Institute of Standards and Technology, November 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.6028/nist.sp.800-181r1.

Full text
Abstract:
This publication from the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) describes the Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework), a fundamental reference for describing and sharing information about cybersecurity work. It expresses that work as Task statements and describes Knowledge and Skill statements that provide a foundation for learners including students, job seekers, and employees. The use of these statements helps students to develop skills, job seekers to demonstrate competencies, and employees to accomplish tasks. As a common, consistent lexicon that categorizes and describes cybersecurity work, the NICE Framework improves communication about how to identify, recruit, develop, and retain cybersecurity talent. The NICE Framework is a reference source from which organizations or sectors can develop additional publications or tools that meet their needs to define or provide guidance on different aspects of cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development.
