En este artículo se analiza la flexión en los sustantivos relacionales en mayangna y se argumenta que estos sustantivos constituyen una clase propia, cuya flexión se debe a la aplicación de una restricción que prohíbe la presencia de grupos consonánticos dentro de la sílaba. Se propone así un patrón flexivo CV(μ).CVAfijoC. Abstract:
The article critically examines the history and recent developments of the Polish memory studies. The authors trace the genealogies of this intellectual field, starting with categories formed by Stefan Czarnowski, Marceli Handelsman, Kazimierz Kelles-Krauss, Ludwik Krzywicki, Florian Znaniecki, and Nina Assorodbraj-Kula. Then, they describe reformulations and varied methodological application of memory concepts within Polish historical studies, cultural studies, as well as within qualitative and quantitative sociology. They also summarize main research themes and projects conducted up to date. Finally, they point out to some flaws within the field having to do with its institutional weakness and the selective reception of western intellectual traditions.

Abstract:
The subject of this article is the use of public consultations in the process of planning a participatory museum. The authors start by mentioning current discussions about participation in culture and debates among museum curators, culture experts, and sociologists concerning a new type of museum. In this context, they present Nina Simon’s idea of a participatory museum, which is a theoretic frame of reference for the long-term activities of the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek, an institution desiring to establish a modern participatory museum in a certain social context. At the end, the results of the public consultations are presented. The data shows that one condition for the creation of a participatory museum is an effective, institutionalized, interactive system of communication. Three areas connected with the local community in which the museum could develop participatory projects were also indicated: the joint creation of memorial sites, community integration, and exhibition and educational activities.

En este estudio realizado del 2008 hasta la época seca del 2012 se presenta los resultados de un monitoreo sobre el estado de las poblaciones de macroinvertebrados acuáticos (MAIA) y su valor bioindicador en cuatro microcuencas: Lunku Creek, Walpatara, El Pool y Esconfran. Estas microcuencas están situadas en los alrededores de la ciudad de Bluefields, y las principales problemáticas que presentan son la reducción de la cobertura vegetal y el crecimiento de la población. El estudio dio como resultado que las zonas más críticas tanto en la estación seca como en la lluviosa fueron: la parte media y baja de las microcuencas de Walpatara y el Pool. Abstract:
En este artículo se presenta los resultados de un programa de investigación en que se cuantifican y analizan los procesos y mecanismos involucrados en la dinámica de regeneración de la especie de bosque húmedo tropical D. oleifera. Los resultados de las observaciones de campo indican que las semillas fueron acumuladas por murciélagos bajo palmas donde éstos perchan. De estas semillas, una fracción fue consumida por mamíferos terrestres y otra fue dispersada al no ser encontrada; la dispersión de semillas por mamíferos terrestres redujo la probabilidad de mortalidad de semillas. Los resultados muestran que la dispersión de semillas lejos del árbol congénere más cercano se correlaciona con altas tasas de sobrevivencia de plántulas y bajas tasas de daño causado por herbivoría insectívora. La presencia de arañas en plántulas se correlacionó con niveles bajos de herbivoría insectívora. Vástago, el estadio de crecimiento subsiguiente, presentó una distribución de reclutamiento al azar y bajas tasas de herbivoría insectívora. El documento que presentamos aquí fue extraído de una investigación más amplia que tiene como título Canal de Nicaragua: Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (por sus siglas ESIA), que la compañía ERM realizara por encargo de la entidad ejecutora del proyectado canal por Nicaragua. El segmento aquí traducido al español es una evaluación de los efectos negativos que tendría el proyecto canalero sobre los pueblos indígenas rama-kriol, principalmente, en cuanto a: la tenencia tradicional de la tierra y de los recursos naturales, las actividades de la vida cotidiana, las prácticas culturales, la identidad y la precaria sobrevivencia del idioma. Al final del informe propone medidas de mitigación conducentes a reducir los efectos perjudiciales. El contenido del informe fue aprobado en noviembre del 2015 por el gobierno de Nicaragua junto con sus recomendaciones. Abstract:
The musical performances of Nina Simone are situated in her activist context, influenced by the civil rights movement and her friends, including playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Simone’s relationship to leftist performance is explored through her uses of materials authored by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, and the differences between her approach and Brecht’s proposed techniques underscore Simone’s black expressive mode and illustrate modernity’s reliance on blackness. Attention to Simone’s uses of voice, piano, dress, and presence construct a sense of a radically politicized performance mode. Using the song “Four Women” and the legacy of Du Boisian double consciousness, Simone enacts a kind of quadruple consciousness that uses excess to multiply, rather than resolve, the alienations and displacements of black subjectivity in an agile and mobile performance of difference.

In the 2000s and 2010s, screen jazz stories explored new forms to tell a new century’s jazz stories—longform television included. The surreal comedy Be Kind Rewind critiques jazz narrative conventions, with a movie within a movie: a new trend in jazz pictures. Born to Be Blue depicts a Chet Baker biopic within the biopic. A Miles Davis biopic is configured as a self-contained double feature, dividing his charming and evil personas. Nina Simone and Joe Albany biopics likewise focus on lulls in their careers. Queen Latifah plays Bessie Smith in a sexually frank biopic. Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash is hysterical like a too-fast drum solo, and his La La Land echoes Scorsese’s New York, New York in various particulars. As the jazz film approached the music’s centenary on record, new stories keep harking back to early ones—even the earliest, drawing connections back to The Jazz Singer.

As each of us siblings—Starker, Luna, Carl, Nina, and i— matured and entered our professional lives in different parts of the country, we carried with us a hankering to have a place in the country, a Shack of our own. It is not merely real estate, of course. Instead, it is a camping place for feeling close to the land, a place to work with the land and to observe the ecosystem and its fauna. To “own,” or as the first peoples saw it, to “belong” on a piece of land is exciting and special—a chance to become acquainted with a few favorite species, then to watch them grow. But of course it is way more than that. As Dad said, he chose his land for its backwardness, but it flourished in splendid isolation under our care. Shack land, as we conceived of it, had the potential of being inhabited by a vast number of native bird species, plus a diverse fauna of mammals, which got richer with time. We were excited that the Shack landscape itself had such physical variety; it had hills and dales, a grand river, a series of tributaries animated by spring and fall floods, a standing bottomland forest coursed by those floods and occupied by lively muskrats, with ducks flying in and out of the sloughs, as well as kingfishers and jays. Even though it was “degraded” agricultural land, Dad and Mother saw it as a land of opportunities for the family. While it had a “reduced level of complexity,” the soil was still there, and we could help improve it, which actually means that the right plants could make it better. Prairie is the perfect model for this kind of restoration and recovery. Dad described the upward flow of energy from soils through the plant community as a kind of circuit. After major disruption and loss of native species, the energy circuit is slowed and altered. He asked, “Can the land adjust itself to the new order?” He was sure it could if we reintroduced the native plant species on that cornfield, on that terrace, on that hill, in order for a genuine prairie, with its very efficient energy-flow, to become reestablished.
