Abstract:

Le domaine de cette thèse est la théorie des modèles, une branche de la logique mathématique.Ce travail porte sur l'étude d'une classe de théories, appelés théories NIP, qui inclut en particulier des corps ordonnés et corps valués. On y étudie plusieurs aspects. Tout d'abord, on définit une classe particulière de mesures sur ces structures, appelées "mesures génériquement stables". On montre qu'elles ont des propriétés analogues aux types dans une théorie stable, puis on donne des constructions pour en produire. On étudie aussi une forme faible de définissabilité des types. Enfin, on définit une notion de théories NIP "purement instable" et on montre comment on peut, dans le cas général, détecter des parties stables de types.

Abstract:

Paper in a calender nip is subjected to a pressure pulse which reduces its thickness and roughness, thus improving the product quality. Strain recovery after the nip is time-dependent, and some permanent strain remains. The material behaviour is viscoelastic; recovery depends on the pulse magnitude and duration, and does not occur immediately on exiting the nip. An improved description of the viscoelastic response to a calender pulse would allow design of adaptive control systems using feedforward techniques. Measurements of paper thickness in the nip, immediately after the nip and 24 hours after calendering were made with newsprint sheets running through an experimental calender operating at industrial conditions. The calculated strains were first related to the operating conditions using empirical curve-fitting methods, then using linear viscoelastic models. Empirical results describe the data well, and can be used to design improved control systems. Linear viscoelastic modeling was less successful since the material behaviour is not linear. Photomicrographs of sheet cross-sections were taken, and the observed non-linearities were discussed qualitatively in terms of paper and fibre properties.

Abstract:

L’obtenció de recobriments compòsits mitjançant la incorporació de partícules en una matriu determinada ha conduit a una nova generació de materials amb unes propietats particulars, depenent tant de la naturalesa de la matriu com de les partícules emprades. En els darrers anys ha sorgit un gran interes en l’obtenció de compòsits amb partícules nanomètriques, ja que s’ha constatat que la reducció de la mida de la partícula pot modificar substancialment les propietats del dipòsit i permet la reducció de la mida del suport, tot obrint un nou ventall d’aplicacions. L’aplicació de la tecnologia electroquímica a l’obtenció d’aquests recobriments té dues etapes de difícil control: l’obtenció de les dispersions de les partícules i el propi procés de codeposició. La disminució de la mida de les partícules exalta els problemes d’agregació a les dispersions, donant lloc a la formació d’agregats de mida sub-micromètrica. El sistema NiP/X, format per una matriu de níquel i partícules ceràmiques, es escollit pel seu interès tecnològic, cercant analitzar l’efecte de la mida de les partícules sobre les propietats dels compòsits obtinguts per incorporació de nanopartícules de SiC i Si3N4 dins una matriu de níquel, mantenint en tot moment la referència al comportament de les micropartícules i emprant la via electroless. Segons això, la tesi s'estructura en tres parts: 1. Caracterització de les nanopartícules de SiC i Si3N4 i de les seves dispersions: la distribució de mida de partícula (PSD) i el potencial zeta (ζ) són dos paràmetres importants per caracteritzar el comportament de les partícules suspeses en un medi i relacionats amb les caracteristiques de la seva superfície. Es detalla el treball fet sobre la caracterització de l'estructura i composició superficial de les nanopartícules, l'estudi del seu comportament en suspensió i de l'efecte dels diferents components d'un bany electroquimic sobre aquestes propietats, amb especial èmfasi en les determinacions efectuades sobre electròlits concentrats i a temperatura relativament elevada i amb la presencia de fluorosurfactants fins ara no estudiats. 2. Obtenció de compòsits per electroless i la seva caracterització: es tracta el procés de deposició i la caracterització dels dipòsits obtinguts. S'estudia la morfologia, composició i estructura així com les propietats de resistència a la corrosió, duresa i resistència al desgast dels recobriments. Buscant l'aplicació directa dels compòsits obtinguts, es treballa amb un bany comercial que proporciona recobriments amb propietats contrastades. D'altra banda, per a l'estudi de l'efecte dels fluorosurfactants s'utilitza un bany de composició més simple. 3. Anàlisi comparativa de la duresa, la resistència al desgast i la fricció: el principal objectiu de la incorporació de partícules ceràmiques a un dipòsit de matriu metàl.lica és l’augment de la seva duresa i resistència al desgast. Existeixen molts mètodes d'assaig d'aquest tipus de propietats i se'n pot obtenir informació molt diversa, encara que els més habituals estan dimensionats per l’avaluació de materials màssics. En aquest capítol es discuteix la seva aplicació a l'avaluació de recobriments compòsits, fent una anàlisi comparativa global de tota la tecnologia avaluada. Quan es va comencar aquest treball, es va considerar interessant dur a terme un estudi final comparatiu dels sistemes NiP/X obtinguts per electrodeposició. Pel seu interès tecnològic es va escollir un bany de sulfamat de nóquel com a electròlit de treball. Però la manca de dades de referéncia sobre el comportament electroquímic d'aquest bany (no es troben referencies bibliogràfiques sobre l'estudi de l'electrodeposició de Ni a partir d'aquest tipus d'electròlits ni de l'obtenció de NiP i els seus composits), ha reduït aquesta part a l’estudi inicial del comportament del bany, l’anàlisi del procés d’electrodeposició i la caracterització dels dipòsits obtinguts. NiP electroless is widely used because of its corrosion and wear resistances and its uniform coating thickness. Moreover, it is known that the incorporation of particles onto this NiP matrix provides enhanced surface properties, depending on the particle nature. Hard particle-containing deposits have been developed when the main requirement for the composite coating is wear resistance. Among these coatings, the combination NiPSiC has proved to be the most cost-effective and best-performing combination. The final properties of these coatings depend on the phosphorous content of the NiP matrix, which determines the structure of the coatings, and on the characteristics of the embedded particles such as type, shape and size. Most studies concerning NiP-hard particle systems are performed using micron-sized particles and some commercial processes exist to obtain such composites. However, the development of nanotechnologies has raised the interest on the metal matrix nano-composite coatings because of their unique mechanical, magnetic and optical properties. With the commercial NiP electrolyte and the ceramic particles used in this study, two different patterns have been observed when trying to obtain composite coatings. In the range between 0.6 and 2 ,m, no significant differences have been observed between the SiC and Si3N4 particles. In both cases, the amount of embedded particles increases with particle size and their incorporation modifies neither the phosphorous content nor the deposition rate of the process. The composite coatings show uniformly distributed particles and the hardness and wear resistance are improved, particularly with the SiC particles and after annealing. However, when nano-sized particles are used, the behaviour of the two ceramics diverges: SiC is incorporated to a relatively high amount, while Si3N4 is not. At this size level, the nature of the particle seems to be the most important factor in determining its incorporation into the metallic matrix. The presence of SiC nano-particles reduces the rate and modifies the coating morphology, altering NiP growth to a much greater extent than do micro-sized ones. Nano-composites show excellent properties, even better than those of micro composites, as lower amounts of embedded particles are needed to obtain the same response.

Abstract:

The hydrodynamics and mechanical behaviour of a soft nip between a rubber-covered roller and a rigid roller has been studied. The thesis reports the developments and the results of a combined theoretical and experimental investigation into the nip flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids operating under various roller mechanical engagements, speeds and other design parameters. The theoretical model has been developed based on a Finite Element method (FEM) to solve for the equation set of generalised pressure and plane strain elasticity equations under a pure rolling contact. Several numerical studies for Newtonian fluid were then carried out to verify the basis of the present model. As far as the author is aware, no published work has hitherto studied the effect of non-Newtonian fluid flow in a soft contact. The comparison between the present Newtonian and non-Newtonian models suggests considerable variation in the film thickness caused by the shear thinning action in the non-Newtonian fluid. Concurrently, an experimental programme was conducted using a real printing unit which was converted to an experimental test rig. The parameters that were measured were pressure, film thickness, speed and temperature. The results provide detailed behaviour of the rollers investigated, and these were used to verify the predicted nip behaviour. The measured results showed that very small speed differentials occur in the nip, and the hysteresis of the rubber was the major source of the heat build-up in the roller. Also, comparison of predicted and measured pressure showed close agreement for low levels of roller engagement and at low speeds. Systematic numerical case studies were carried out to ascertain the parameters which most affect the nip behaviour. Supported with the comparisons of published data where possible, the results showed that rubber modulus, roller engagement, viscosity and speed were the most influential parameters.

Abstract:

Dans ce présent travail des revêtements composites à matrice métallique Ni-P chargés de particules de SiC (tailles moyennes 600 et 30 nm) sont électrodéposés à partir d'une solution de sels de nickel et d'un précurseur phosphoreux H3PO3, dans laquelle les particules sont mises en suspension. Par des mesures de viscosité, de vitesse de sédimentation nous montrons que la taille des particules est une caractéristique importante qui joue sur la stabilité des suspensions. Nous montrons que l'ajout d'additifs organiques dans le but de modifier le comportement des suspensions, peut avoir suivant la taille des particules, un effet sur leur taux d'incorporation dans le dépôt. Nous observons qu'au-delà d'une certaine concentration en particules dans la suspension, le taux d'incorporation évalué en fraction volumique atteint un palier, caractéristique de la saturation de la surface cathodique alors que pour les fortes concentration de la suspension le procédé devient sélectif et les particules de plus faibles tailles sont incorporées préférentiellement. Des analyses thermiques, des mesures mécaniques et des analyses életrochimiques par voltametrie cyclique et d´impedance électrochimique, mettent en évidence l'effet de la quantité et de la taille des particules incorporées sur le comportement thermique, la microdureté et la résistance à corrosion des revêtements composites Ni-P / SiC In this work electrodeposited Ni-P/SiC composites coatings had been electrodeposited from a nickel salts solution containing H3PO3 and SiC particles in suspension (600nm and 30nm). Through measures of viscosity and sedimentation speed it was evidenced that the size of particles is a very important characteristic and it influences in the suspension stability. We had shown that organic additives modifies the characteristic of suspensions. Depending on size particles the organic additives can change the number of incorporated particles. It was observed that depending on the particles concentration in suspension, the number of incorporated particles in deposits can be changed. The incorporation rate evaluated as a function of the fraction in volume reaches a plateau, but continues to increase if it´s evaluated as a function of the number of particles. For the suspensions with raised particles concentration, the incorporation process becomes selective, and the particles with small size are preferentially incorporated. Microhardness measurements, thermal analysis and electrochemical analysis, (cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) were used to evaluate the influence of the amount and distribution of SiC incorporated particles on the microhardness, corrosion and thermal behaviour of Ni-P/SiC composite coating

Abstract:

Nous avons élaboré des poudres NiP de teneur en phosphore de 8% at P à 17% at P en maintenant constant tous les paramètres physico-chimiques excepté la concentration en phosphore dans les bains. Les poudres obtenues par cette nouvelle technique sont identifiées par diffraction de rayon X comme étant amorphe. Nous avons cherché à caractériser le comportement des différentes poudres pendant les étapes de compactage uniaxial. On a pu retenir l'existence de mise en forme (300 à 600 MPa) ou les particules de poudres subissent un réarrangement, la deuxième étape pour des pressions supérieurs à 600 MPa est attribuée à la déformation plastique des particules de poudres. La stéréologie a permis de caractériser la structure interne des agglomérés de poudre et de décrire leur évolution ainsi que celles des propriétés physiques et mécaniques depuis l'état du comprime jusqu'au stade ultime du frittage. Au cours de la montée en température, on a pu atteindre 95% de la densité théorique pour toutes les poudres compactées à haute pression. Les mesures de la résistivité électrique nous ont permis de mettre en évidence une transition de phase amorphe-cristal vers 300 °C pour tous les comprimés, une deuxième transition de phase apparait vers 500 °C pour les comprimés à 12% at P et 17% at P ou la cristallisation se fait en deux étapes, précipitation de Ni puis Ni3P et croissance cristalline au sein du matériau. La microdureté Vickers ainsi que le module d'Young évoluent de manière cohérente avec la montée en température We have elaborated five powders of NiP with 8% at P et 17% at P. The chemical and physical parameters are kept constant except concentration of phosphorus into bath. The powders obtained with this new technique are identified amorphous with X rays. We have tried to caracterize behaviour of different powder during uniaxial compacting stage. There are two stages during compaction, the first one for low pressure compacting (300 à 600 MPa) when the aprticles of powder undergo arrangement, second stage for high pressure was attributed to the plastic deformation of powder particles. Stereology made it possible to caracterize internal structure, to describe behaviour, physics and mechanics properties of conglomerate of powder compacted till ultimate of sinttering. During temperature rising, we have attained 95% of theorical density for all compacted at high pressure. We could bring to the fore one transition of amorphous-crystal phase at 300°C with measurements of electrical resistivity for all compacted, second transition became visible at 500°C for powder at 12% at P and 17% at P who cristalization it made of two stages, precipitation of Ni then Ni3P and growth within material. Abstract:

Advances in hardware technologies combined with decreased costs have started a trend towards massively parallel architectures that utilise commodity components. It is thought unreasonable to expect software developers to manage the high degree of parallelism that is made available by these architectures. This thesis argues that a new programming model is essential for the development of parallel applications and presents a model which embraces the notions of object-orientation and implicit identification of parallelism. The new model allows software engineers to concentrate on development issues, using the object-oriented paradigm, whilst being freed from the burden of explicitly managing parallel activity. To support the programming model, the semantics of an execution model are defined and implemented as part of a run-time support system for object-oriented parallel applications. Details of the novel techniques from the run-time system, in the areas of lazy task creation and object-based, distributed shared memory, are presented. The tasklet construct for representing potentially parallel computation is introduced and further developed by this thesis. Three caching techniques that take advantage of memory access patterns exhibited in object-oriented applications are explored. Finally, the performance characteristics of the introduced run-time techniques are analysed through a number of benchmark applications.

Abstract:

The study of root nodule symbiosis between nitrogen-fixing bacteria and leguminous plant species is important because of the ability to supplement fixed nitrogen fertilizers and increase plant growth in poor soils. Our group has isolated a mutant called nip in the model legume Medicago truncatula that is defective in nodule symbiosis. The nip mutant (numerous infections with polyphenolics) becomes infected by Sinorhizobium meliloti but then accumulates polyphenolic defense compounds in the nodule and fails to progress to a stage where nitrogen fixation can occur. Analysis of the transcriptome of nip roots prior to inoculation with rhizobia was undertaken using Affymetric Medicago Genome Array microarrays. The total RNA of 5-day old uninoculated seedlings was analyzed in triplicate to screen for the NIP gene based on downregulated transcript levels in the mutant as compared to wild type. Further microarray data was generated from 10 days post inoculation (dpi) nip and wild type plants. Analysis of the most highly downregulated transcripts revealed that the NIP gene was not identifiable based on transcript level. Putative gene function was assigned to transcripts with altered expression patterns in order to characterize the nip mutation phenotypically as inferred from the transcriptome. Functional analysis revealed a large number of chaperone proteins were highly expressed in the nip mutant, indicating high stress in the mutant prior to infection by rhizobia. Additionally, a database containing the information regarding the nip expression profile at both 0 days post inoculation (dpi) and 10 dpi were created for screening of candidate genes as predicted from sequence in the genomic region containing NIP.

Abstract:

Cette thèse est consacrée à la théorie des modèles des groupes abéliens valués. Nousdonnons à la fin du premier chapitre un exemple assez simple montrant qu’au contrairedes groupes abéliens ordonnés, les groupes abéliens valués ne sont pas tous dépendants(NIP). La question de la propriété d’indépendance est d’ailleurs au coeur du manuscrit.Nous travaillons dans un langage à deux sortes constitué de symboles pour : la loi de groupe,le symétrique et l’élément neutre (sorte du groupe), l’ordre sur la chaîne et l’infini (sortede la chaîne de valuation) et enfin la valuation elle-même. La première partie (chapitres 2,3 et 4) traite le cas du groupe additif Z des entiers relatifs muni d’une valuation p-adique(avec p premier) et de la théorie commune à ces structures. Dans chaque cas, on obtientune axiomatisation et une élimination des quanteurs dans un langage un peu enrichi, lecaractère NIP est démontré et une étude succincte des types définissables est proposée.La deuxième partie commence par le seul chapitre généraliste du texte, où l’on adapte lapp-élimination des quantificateurs dans les modules au cadre des groupes abéliens valués.Le chapitre 6 s’intéresse aux groupes valués à chaîne finie construits sur Z : on y axiomatiseleur théorie commune et les complétions de celle-ci, pour lesquelles on donne également uneélimination des quanteurs. Enfin, le chapitre 7 s’appuie sur les résultats des chapitres 5 et 6pour fournir une élimination des quantificateurs dans le cas d’un groupe valué quelconqueconstruit sur Z et pour en déduire le caractère NIP The purpose of this thesis is to study model theory of abelian valued groups. At theend of the first chapter, a basic example is given, showing that, in sharp contrast to orderedabelian groups, abelian valued groups may not be dependent (NIP). The topic of IndependenceProperty is focused on throughout the manuscript. The language used is two-sortedand contains symbols for : the group operation, the inverse and the identity element (sortof the group), the order on the chain and the infinity (sort of the value chain) and finallythe valuation itself. The first part (chapters 2, 3 and 4) deals with the case of the additivegroup Z of integers endowed with a p-adic valuation (with p a prime number) and withthe common theory to these structures. In each case, an axiomatization and a quantifierelimination in a language a bit larger are obtained, the lack of the Independence Propertyis proven and a short study of definable types is propounded. The second part begins withthe only general chapter of the work, where the pp-elimination of quantifiers for modules isadapted to the framework of valued abelian groups. The chapter 6 aims at studying valuedgroups with finite chains, with Z as the underlying group : their common theory and itscompletions, for which a quantifier elimination result is also given, are axiomatized. Ces travaux sur l'étude de l'élaboration et de la cartérisation de revêtements composites NiP/SiC électrodéposés. Nous montrons que la présence de particules dans l'électrolyte perturbe les porcessus de co-dépot du phosphore et du nickel. Il s'ensuit une baisse de la teneur en phosphore ainsi qu'une augmentation du volume d'hydrogène occlus. Si la désorption d'hydrogène au cours de sollicitations thermiques augmente le niveau de métasytabilité ses solutions solides en abaissant la température de cr stallisation de phosphures métastables NixPy, les patrticules de SiC présentes dans la matrice retardent leur coalescence. Les propriétés mécaniques des composites sont dépendantes de leur état structural. L'état brut, trois domaines de composition apparaissent, correspondant a trois domaines structuraux où les propiétés de micro-dureté sont contrôlées par des mécanismes mettant en jeu la phase majoritaire(cristallisée, intercristalline ou amorphe). La microdureté de la matrice peut-être augmentée par des traitements thermiques conduisant à une relaxation des contraintes de la phase cristallisée ou une précipitation des phosphures à partir de la phase désordonnée. . .

Abstract:

Large amounts of industrial fertilizers are used to maximize crop yields. Unfortunately, they are not completely consumed by plants; consequently, this leads to soil pollution and negative effects on aquatic systems. An alternative to industrial fertilizers can be found in legume plants that provide a nitrogen source that is not harmful for the environment. Legume plants, through their symbiosis with soil bacteria called rhizobia, are able to reduce atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia, a biological nitrogen source. Establishment of the symbiosis requires communication on the molecular level between the two symbionts, which leads to changes on the cellular level and ultimately results in nitrogen-fixing nodule development. Inside the nodules hypoxic environment, the bacterial enzyme nitrogenase reduces atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia. Medicago truncatula is the model legume plant that is used to study symbiosis with mycorrhiza and with the bacteria Sinorhizobium meliloti. The focus of this work is the M. truncatula nodulation mutant nip (numerous infections and polyphenolics). The NIP gene plays a role in the formation and differentiation of nodules, and development of lateral roots. Studying this mutant will contribute knowledge to understanding the plant response to infection and how the invasion by rhizobia is regulated. Previous genetic mapping placed NIP at the top of linkage group 1 of the M. truncatula genome. A NIP mapping population was established with the purpose of performing fine mapping in the region containing NIP. DNA from two M. truncatula ecotypes A17 and A20 can be distinguished through polymorphisms. Positional mapping of the NIP gene is based on the A17/A20 genetic map of M. truncatula. The NIP mapping population of 2277 plants was scored for their nodulation phenotype and genotyped with flanking molecular genetic markers 146o17 and 23c16d, which are located ~1.5 cM apart and on either side of NIP. This resulted in the identification of 170 recombinant plants, These plants' DNAs were tested further with different available genetic markers located in the region of interest, to narrow the genetic interval that contains the NIP gene. Segregation data from genotyping analysis of recombinant plants placed NIP in the region between 4L4 and 807 genetic markers.

Abstract:

Doutoramento em Biologia NIPP1, for nuclear inhibitor of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1), is a multifunctional scaffold protein that regulates cell signaling, pre-mRNA splicing and transcription by targeting PP1 to specific nuclear substrates. The global deletion of NIPP1 in mice is embryonic lethal at the onset of gastrulation, precluding its functional analysis in adult tissues. This prompted us to generate a tamoxifen-inducible NIPP1 knockout (iKO) mouse model. Unexpectedly, the deletion of NIPP1 was not efficient in the examined organs except for testis. The loss of NIPP1 caused an age-dependent progressive loss of testicular germ cells, culminating in a Sertoli cells-only phenotype. iKO testis showed a decreased proliferation of (un)differentiated spermatogonia and an increased level of apoptosis. Likewise, neonatal iKO testis exhibited an almost complete loss of gonocyte-derived (un)differentiated spermatogonia during the first wave of spermatogenesis. In addition, GFRA1+ progenitor cells isolated from induced iKO testis displayed a reduced proliferation potential. These data suggest that NIPP1 is required for the maintenance of undifferentiated spermatogonia. We also found that the observed phenotype was associated with the deregulation of genes that are implicated in the control of cell proliferation and survival. At the molecular level, the deletion of NIPP1 was associated with the loss of core components of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2), which affects gene expression through trimethylation of histone H3 at Lys 27. The loss of PRC2 components could be explained by the hyperphosphorylation and degradation of EZH2, the catalytic subunit of the PRC2 complex, resulting in the destabilization of other PRC2 core components. The testis phenotype of the iKOs could be phenocopied by the chemical inhibition of EZH1/2 in organotypic testis cultures. Overall, our study uncovers a key function for PP1-NIPP1 in the regulation of EZH2 phosphorylation and stability, which is essential for the maintenance of germ cells. Este facto incitou-nos a gerar um modelo de ratinho knockout induzível (iKO) para a NIPP1. Inesperadamente, a remoção da NIPP1 não foi eficiente na maioria dos órgãos analisados, com exceção do testículo. A deleção da NIPP1 causou uma perda progressiva de células germinativas do testículo dependente da idade, culminando num fenótipo denominado Sertoli cells-only phenotype. O testículo adulto nos ratinhos iKO apresentaram uma diminuição na proliferação das espermatogónias (in)diferenciadas e aumento dos níveis de apoptose. De modo análogo, o testículo dos neonatos exibiu uma perda quase completa das espermatogónias (in)diferenciadas derivadas de gonócitos, durante o primeiro ciclo de espermatogénese. Adicionalmente, culturas celulares enriquecidas em células progenitoras GFRA1+ isoladas do testículo dos ratinhos iKO apresentaram uma diminuição do seu potencial proliferativo. Estes resultados sugerem que a NIPP1 é necessária para a manutenção das espermatogónias indiferenciadas. Demonstrámos também que fenótipo observado está associado à desregulação de genes implicados no controlo da proliferação e viabilidade celular. No que concerne o mecanismo molecular, a deleção da NIPP1 resultou na perda dos componentes centrais do complexo PRC2 (Polycomb Repressive Complex 2), o que afetou a expressão genética através da trimetilação da histone H3 no resíduo Lys27 (H3K27me3). A perda dos componentes integrantes do complexo PRC2 foi explanada pela hiperfosforilação e degradação da proteína EZH2, o componente catalítico central do complexo PRC2, resultando na subsequente destabilização de outros componentes deste complexo. Em conformidade, o fenótipo foi reproduzido através da inibição química da proteína EZH1/2 em culturas organotípicas de testículos. De modo geral, este estudo revela a importância da fosfatase PP1-NIPP1 para a regulação da fosforilação e estabilização da proteína EZH2, essencial para a manutenção das células germinativas.

Cette étude porte sur la caractérisation des propriétés de revêtements à matrice Ni-P chargés en particules de talc à empreinte écologique réduite. Les réponses locales des revêtements bruts ou traités thermiquement, soumis à des sollicitations thermomécaniques statiques et dynamiques, ont été obtenues par nano- et -microdureté, microtraction, nanorayage et essais tribologiques. La dureté et la rigidité augmentent après un traitement thermique de cristallisation à 420°C (précipitation de Ni3P). Un traitement à plus haute température (T>600°C) diminue par survieillissement ces caractéristiques. Le traitement à 420°C améliore l'adhérence des revêtements et leur cohésion quelle que soit la teneur en talc. Des essais tribologiques ont été réalisés à température ambiante et à 600°C. A température ambiante, les revêtements NiP-talc traités ont un très bon comportement à l'usure. A 600°C, les mécanismes de dégradation sont nettement intensifiés et affectent les échantillons et les frotteurs.

Abstract:

During manufacturing of tissue paper, large amounts of energy could be saved with an optimized press nip. In the press nip, water is pressed out of the paper and depending on both machine and paper parameters, the dewatering effect will vary. The dewatering process is however, a complex process which is not fully understood. With the facility to simulate different tissue machine concepts in a lab-testing machine, theoretical models of the dewatering process could be tested and evaluated. Karlstad university has started a three-year project with the purpose of building a lab-test equipment for simulation of pressing of paper, and one of their partners during this project is the company Valmet AB. This master thesis was a part of this three-year project and was carried out in collaboration with Valmet AB. The aim of the master thesis was to determine important parameters affecting the pressing process and the requirements to be considered during the design of the lab-test equipment. The goal was also to develop some concrete concept proposals. During the literature study it was found that the most important parameters of the equipment affecting the result were nip pressure, duration time and process temperature. Paper parameters with the biggest effect on the result were compressibility resistance, flow resistance, ingoing moisture and temperature stability. After discussion with the engineers at Valmet AB, customer requirements of the equipment were determined and these, in combination with the information gathered from the literature study, were used in order to determine the product requirements of the equipment. The most important product requirements turned out to be load capacity, changeable load, process time, distance between upper and lower plate and incorporation of load cells. Several different concept proposals were developed and four of them where evaluated further. The biggest challenge in designing a lab-test equipment for simulation of pressing of paper is the short duration time in combination with high loads, and therefore, all concepts were evaluated according to this as a first step. Plenty of work still needs to be done before any of the generated concepts are finished, but three of them, Three weight, Profile and Electromagnet are seen as potential solutions. Vid tillverkning av mjukpapper kan stora mängder energi sparas genom att optimera pressnypet. Detta då man i pressnypet kan avlägsna stora mängder vatten från pappret med hjälp av en presskraft, men beroende på både maskin- och pappersparameterar varierar avvattningsförmågan. Avvattningsförloppet är dock en mycket komplicerad process som ännu inte är helt förstådd. Med möjligheten att simulera olika maskinkoncept i en lab-testmaskin kan teoretiska modeller av avvattningsförloppet testas och utvärderas. Karlstads universitet har nyligen startat ett treårigt projekt med syfte att bygga en lab-testmaskin för pressning av papper och en av deras samarbetspartners är företaget Valmet AB. Detta examensarbete var en del av detta treåriga projekt och utfördes i samarbete med Valmet AB. Målet med examensarbetet var att bestämma vilka parametrar som påverkar avvattningen i pressnypet och vilka krav som måste beaktas under designen av lab-testmaskinen. Målet var även att ta fram konkreta konceptförslag. Från litteraturstudien framkom det att de parametrarna hos utrustningen vilka kommer påverka resultatet mest var nyptryck, varaktighet och processtemperatur. De pappersparametrar vilka har störst betydelse för resultatet visade sig vara kompressabilitetsmotstånd, flödesmotstånd, ingående fukthalt och temperaturstabilitet. Efter diskussion med ingenjörer på Valmet AB kunde kundkraven bestämmas, och dessa i kombination med den sammanställda informationen från litteraturstudien användes för att bestämma produktkraven för utrustningen. De viktigaste produktkraven visade sig vara lastkapaciteten, ändringsbar kraft, processtid, avstånd mellan övre- och nedre plattan, samt att lastceller ska vara inkluderade. Av alla de koncept som togs fram under genereringsarbetet, utvärderades fyra av dem. Den största utmaningen vid design av en lab-testutrustning för simulering av pressning av papper är den korta pressningstiden i kombination med den höga lasten, och därför prioriterades en utvärdering av koncepten utifrån dessa aspekter. Mycket arbete återstår innan ett färdigt koncept står klart, men tre av de utvärderade koncepten, Tre vikter, Profil och Elektromagnet, har potential till att utvecklas till realiserbara utrustningar som möter de uppsatta kraven.

Abstract:

This PhD thesis presents the outcome of employing both nanosecond and femtosecond pulsed lasers in order to modify the surface structure of a material at the micro and nano scales. Literature review was carried out on micro/nano fabrication technologies involved in the semiconductor industry, which are the basis of many current micro and nano-manufacturing processes. The first experiments concentrated on direct laser scanning of Si to produce surface microstructures. This type of texturing was very effective at reducing surface reflectivity and can be implemented in photovoltaic devices. It was also found that the ablation efficiency can be improved if laser processing is performed in an argon environment where oxidation can be suppressed. Moreover, a significant relationship between laser-texture characteristics (i.e. topography/morphology and periodicity) and total surface reflectance was demonstrated. Short-circuit modelling of the laser texture showed that electrical performance of the cell can be improved by 41.3% in the 360-1100 spectrum, even in the near-infrared for which Si is a weak absorber. From these experimental results, it was also noticed that the laser-generated micro-structures made the surface significantly wettable; but as the laser fluence was reduced, the contact angle of the surface could be changed. This led to the investigation of the wetting properties of nano-bumps produced on Si at fluences below the ablation threshold. Their wetting behaviour was reported for the first time. An effect named as 'invisible marking' in this thesis was demonstrated: vapour condenses into water drops of different size depending on the lattice arrangement of c-Si or a-Si. Such an interaction at the near-ablation threshold was also explored for another type of material: NiP/Al data storage disks. From this research, elliptical bumps with vertical dimension in the sub-nanometre scale were fabricated with extremely high repeatability (± 0.4 nm). In addition, it was found that elliptical bumps can offer better stiction performance than circular shapes, even at ultra-low flying height. This type of laser texture could be utilised as a means for tribological optimization of surfaces that are in close proximity and relative motion. Following the use of low-fluences by nanosecond pulses, this was also applied to scanning over a microsphere lens array. So far, the research on near-field effects produced at the bottom of transparent particles has focused on how to generate parallel nano-patterns by single pulses. However, the present work has demonstrated that a focused beam with a tight-focus can be used to fabricate single lines or shapes rather than repeated patterns. In this way, a femtosecond laser was introduced to meet such a challenge. Moreover, laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) by fs pulses were also identified along the near-field generated nano-patterns. The evolution of such a periodic, self-assembly structuring was also investigated, and new optical characteristics of structural colour were found.

Estabeleceu-se a freqüência de NIP em ressecções transuretrais da próstata, prostatectomias abertas, biópsias de agulha e prostatectomias radicais bem como a distribuição por faixa etária e cor dos pacientes. Os pacientes foram considerados amarelos, brancos e não brancos. Estes últimos englobavam pardos e negros. Fez-se um estudo comparativo com carcinoma clinico ou histologicamente detectávél tentando-se contribuir para o significado biológico da NIP e da conduta frente a este diagnóstico. NIP isolada foi encontrada em 40/769 (5,20%) dos espécimes de biópsia por, agulha e em 9/769 (1,17%) das biópsias por agulha com carcinoma associado. Em espéçimes de RTU a freqüência de NIP associada a adenocarcinoma foi de 5/630 (0,79<'/ó), e isoladamente foi de 29/630 (4,60%). Em prostatectomia aberta foi de 12/100 (12%) e associada a adenocarcinoma de 1/100 (1%). Em prostatectomias radicais obtivemos associação de NIP e adenocarcinoma em 11 delas, ou seja, 31,42%, sendo que 23/35(62,87%) prostatectomias radicais restantes apresentavam exclusivamente adenocarcinoma e 1/35(2,85%) apenas NIP isolada, sem qualquer outra associação. Para adenocarcinoma a década predominante foi dos 70-79 anos (37,60%) em brancos (75,80%). Para NIP houve um predomínio dos 60-69 anos (45,63%) em brancos (79,61%). Vimos ainda que a NIP aumentou sua incidênciacom a idade do paciente, como também observado por outros autores; e a mesma, precedeu ainda o carcinoma aproximadamente em uma década. The materiaIswere processed by the Department of PathologicalAnatomy, using the traditional method ofparaffin caking and blades were tinted by hematoxiline-eosina(HE). The frequency ofPIN was established in transurethral resections ofthe prostate, transvesical prostatic enucleations, needle biopsies and radical prostatectomies, as well as the distribution by age groups and races of the patients. Patients were classi:tiedas being of the yellow,white and non-white groups. This 1astgroup included mulattos and blacks. A comparative study with clínical or histologica11ydetectable carcinoma was conducted, attempting to contribute to the biological significance of PIN and the conduct when faced with this diagnosis. Isolated PIN was found in 40/769 (5.20%) of the needle biopsy specimens and associated with carcinoma in 9/769 (1.17%) OfCBs. In TURP specimens,the frequency of PIN associated with adenocarcinoma was 5/630 (0.79%) and, in the isolated form, it was 29/630 (4.60%). In transvesical prostatic enucleations (TV) it was 12/100 (12%) and 1/100 (1%) when associated with adenocarcinoma. Furthermore, we observed that the incidence of PIN increased with patient age, as was observed by other authors; and it preceded carcinoma by almost a decade. Métodos novos como a Estereotomografia préempilhamento e a Tomografia da onda NIP são ferramentas poderosas e bastante sugestivas para este propósito. Basicamente, a Estereotomografia pré-empilhamento se baseia no conceito de eventos localmente coerentes interpretados como reflexões primárias e associados com pares de segmentos de raios, que tem um mesmo ponto de reflexão em profundidade. Na Tomografia da onda NIP um evento sísmico é representado por uma onda hipotética NIP, que está relacionada a um ponto de reflexão em profundidade. Os atributos da onda NIP são determinados no decorrer do Empilhamento de Superfície de Reflexão Comum (empilhamento CRS). Este trabalho tem como objetivo, fazer um estudo comparativo de ambos os métodos de determinação do modelo de velocidades em profundidade. Assim, é realizada uma revisão dos fundamentos teóricos de ambos os métodos tomográficos, destacando as principais diferenças e aplicando estas aproximações em um dado sintético e um dado real marinho (linha sísmica 214-2660 da Bacia do Jequitinhonha). Para avaliar os modelos de velocidades encontrados pelas aproximações, foi utilizada a migração pré-empilhamento em profundidade do tipo Kirchhoff e também as famílias de imagem comum (CIG). Os resultados mostraram que ambos os métodos tomográficos fornecem modelos de velocidades representativos. Contudo, constatou-se que a estereotomografia tem melhor desempenho em meios com variações laterais de velocidades, porém, aplicável somente em dados pré-empilhados com alta razão sinal/ruído. The determination of an accurate velocity model is a fundamental requirement for the seismic imaging. New methods, such as prestack stereotomography and poststack NIP wave tomography, are powerful and very suggestive tools for this task. The prestack stereotomography is basically based on the concept of locally coherent events interpreted as primary reflections and that are associated to ray segments that are linked through the same reflection point in depth. In NIP wave tomography a seismic event is represented by a hypothetic NIP wave that is associated to a reflection point in depth. The NIP wave attributes are determined during Common Reflection Surface (CRS) procedure. The objective of this work is to compare both methods of velocity model determination in depth. Then a review of the theoretical foundations of both tomographic methods are made, considering its main differences, and then applied to a synthetic data and a real marine dataset (seismic line 214-2660 of the Jequitinhonha Basin, Brazil). In order to evaluate the velocity models determined by these two approximations, the data were prestack depth migrated using the Kirchhoff algorithm and also generated Common Image Gathers (CIG). The results have shown that both tomographic methods yield representative velocity models. However, it was noticed that the velocity model estimated by stereotomography behaved better in laterally varying media, but only applied in prestack data with a high signal-to-noise ratio.

Abstract:

Abscisic acid (ABA) is a plant hormone that regulates various developmental processes and environmental stress responses. ABA modulates growth of both primary roots and lateral roots, helping to shape root architecture. The lateral root organ defective (latd) mutants, disrupted in the MtLATD/NIP gene, encoding a nitrate transporter, have severe root growth defects that can be rescued by applying ABA. However, the way in which ABA stimulates latd root growth is unclear, and the downstream components of MtLATD/NIP and ABA signaling are completely unknown. To answer these questions, this dissertation focuses on two major potential downstream regulators: Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and transcription factors (TFs). ROS are important signaling molecules required in ABA-induced stomatal closure under drought or osmotic stresses, but their role in ABA regulation of root development is unclear. I found that latd mutant roots have increased ROS levels, and the expression level of several MtRboh genes, which encode major ROS-producing enzymes, the NADPH oxidases, is also increased. ABA decreases the amount of ROS in latd roots and also reduces expression of MtRbohC, in particular. In addition, I observed that latd mutant roots have cell elongation defects, which can also be rescued by exogenous ABA. I demonstrated that pharmaceutically decreasing ROS levels using an NADPH oxidase inhibitor, or reducing the expression of MtRbohC using RNA interference can increase cell elongation and stimulate lateral root elongation in latd roots. These findings have revealed a mechanism by which ABA restores root growth in latd mutant roots via regulating ROS levels, and identified MtRbohC as an important downstream target of ABA signaling mediated by MtLATD/NIP. TFs act as regulatory nodes controlling the transcription of gene clusters and playing a crucial role in plant growth and development. Using a high-throughput TF profiling approach, I have identified 20 TFs that exhibit altered expression levels in latd mutant roots as compared to wild type, 60% of which can be restored to normal levels by ABA. My analysis also revealed that ABA regulates the expression of a different set of TFs in latd roots, suggesting that MtLATD/NIP is crucial for ABA regulation of TF expression. Moreover, ABA changes the TFs regulated by MtLATD/NIP almost completely, indicating a tight control of ABA on TFs regulated by MtLATD/NIP. Surprisingly, I found that the expression of NODULATION SIGNALING PATHWAY 2 (MtNSP2), a GRAS family TF required for nodulation, is regulated by MtLATD/NIP, ABA and nitrate in non-symbiotic roots. In symbiotic roots, MtLATD/NIP is required for the transcriptional signaling pathway downstream of MtNSP2 in the epidermis as well as induction of MtNSP2 expression by cytokinin and subsequent activation of its downstream targets in the cortex. These findings indicate that MtLATD/NIP functions in nodulation signal transduction upstream of MtNSP2, and mediates crosstalk with cytokinin. Together, these two approaches have begun to characterize a signaling pathway downstream of ABA and MtLATD/NIP that involves ROS, MtNSP2, and a core group of TFs in the regulation of root development and nodulation in M. truncatula.

Le cadre général de cette thèse est celui de la propriété d’indépendance en théorie des modèles. Les théories sans cette propriété sont appelées NIP ou dépendantes. L’objectif principal est de trouver de nouveaux exemples de théories appartenant à cette classe. Nous montrons d’abord un résultat isolé qui répond une question de Pillay : dans un groupe NIP possédant une partie infinie de classe de nilpotence finie, on y trouve un sous-groupe définissable de même classe de nilpotence et contenant cette partie infinie. Le reste de la thèse est motivé par deux cadres extrêmement proches : les groupes abéliens munis d’une chaîne de sous-groupes uniformément définissables, et les groupes abéliens valués. Dans le premier cas nous identifions une certaine théorie et nous étudions plusieurs extensions de cette théorie. Nous prouvons une élimination des quantificateurs dans chacune des ses extensions, grâce à laquelle la NIP en découle facilement. Le dernier résultat est le plus substantiel. The main objective of this thesis is to find new examples belonging to this class. Firstly, we prove an isolated result that answers a question stated by Pillay : if a NIP group contains an infinite set of finite nilpotency class, then there exists a definable subgroup of the same nilpotency class containing this set. The rest of this thesis is motivated by two extremely closed related contexts : abelian groups equipped with an uniformly definable chain of subgroups, and valued groups. In the first case we identify a theory and study several extensions of it. We prove quantifier elimination in each of these extensions, and use it to easily conclude that they are NIP. The last result is the most significant one. We prove that a natural theory of linear orderings equipped with quasi-automorphisms doesn’t have the independence property. Then we apply this result to a particular theory of valued abelian groups, which has been studied by Simonetta in the context of C-minimal groups, to conclude that it is NIP. We also prove in a rather straightforward way (using results by Rubin and Poizat) that a linear ordering equipped with automorphisms is NIP

Abstract:

The Medicago truncatula NIP gene is located on M. truncatula Linkage Group 1. Informative recombinants showed crossovers that localize the NIP gene between markers 146O17 and 23C16D. Marker 164N9 co-segregates with the NIP gene, and the location of marker 164N9 is between markers 146O17 and 23C16D. Based upon data from the Medicago genome sequencing project, a subset of the model legume Medicago truncatula bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) were used to create a physical map on the DNA in this genetic internal. BACs near the potential NIP gene location near marker 164N9 were identified, and used in experiments to predict the physical map by a BAC-by-BAC strategy. Using marker 164N9 as a center point, and chromosome walking outward, the physical map toward markers 146O17 and 23C16D was built. The chromosome walk consisted of a virtual walk, made with existing sequence of BACs from the Medicago genome project, hybridizations to filters containing BAC DNA, and PCR reactions to confirm that predicted overlapping BACs contained DNA that yielded similar PCR products. In addition, the primers which are made for physical mapping via PCR could be good genetic markers helpful in discovering the location of the NIP gene. As a result of efforts repotted here, gap in physical map between marker 164N9 and 146O17 was closed.

ABSTRACT The success of land plants can be attributed to the evolution of beneficial associations between plant roots and soil microbes. Root-microbe mutualisms extend the range of plant nutrient acquisition delivered through the hyphal network of mycorrhiza, an ancient and widespread plant symbiosis, or by the more recent adaptive innovation of nitrogen-fixing nodule symbioses. A plant’s genetic toolkit governs its selection of beneficial symbionts and the developmental extent of these intimate interactions. However, the evolutionary origins and function for only a few symbiotic signaling components have been explored. The central aim of this dissertation is to resolve the evolutionary events that contributed two, novel genetic components for establishing root symbioses, NPF1B and NPF1C. The Medicago truncatula (Mt) LATD/NIP/NPF1.7C transporter functions in root and nodule meristems and is a member of the large NPF1 gene subfamily. Here, I propose that LATD/NIP’s role in establishing nitrogen-fixing symbioses is derived from the ancient mycorrhizal signaling pathway. I used a comparative phylogenomic approach to investigate the evolutionary origins of the NPF1 gene across flowering plants and then asked whether diversifying or purifying selection forces influenced NPF1 gene retention. I postulated that such gene retention correlates with the adaptive traits of mycorrhizal or nitrogen-fixing root nodule symbiosis; to test this I measured trait correlation within my dataset. I found that the NPF1 phylogeny is comprised of five well-supported angiosperm clades, A, B, C, D1 and D2, that arose by successive duplications and have unequal gene retention. NPF1B is present as a single copy gene or lost entirely, while the other major NPF1 clades expanded to multiple genes within angiosperms. The NPF1A, B and C genes are under strong purifying selection while the NPF1D genes display positive, diversifying selection. My data revealed a statistically significant correlation of NPF1A, B, C, and D2, but not NPF1D1, gene retention with the ability of a species to form mycorrhizal associations. Additionally, the retention of the NPF1B, C, D1, D2, but not NPF1A, genes within a species is statistically correlated with its ability to form nitrogen-fixing symbiosis. Supporting this correlation, NPF1B genes are expressed in plant root tissues with and without mycorrhizal fungi yet available datasets failed to detect NPF1B expression in nodule tissues whereas the NPF1C genes are expressed in both symbiotic and non-symbiotic plant root tissues. In support of functional conservation, expression of legume LATD/NIP cDNAs from Cicer arietinum (Ca) and Lotus japonicus (Lj) restored, in part, the root and nodule defects of the Mtlatd mutant and resulted in the formation of peculiar hybrid lateral root-nodule structures while, in wild-type M. truncatula, significantly augmented root development. In L. japonicus, the disruption of LATD/NIP alters the number of lateral roots and nodules My thesis data support the hypothesis for an ancestral NPF1 gene function in establishing mycorrhizal associations in angiosperms and, consequent to the monocot-eudicot divergence, co-opted this function for accommodating nitrogen-fixing symbioses in eudicots. Successive duplications then yielded the NPF1B and NPF1C genes that, by neofunctionalization and natural selection, further refined their roles in root organogenesis and symbiosis; a prerequisite for the evolution of nodule organs.

Abstract:

In response to compatible rhizobia, leguminous plants develop unique plant organs, root nodules, in which rhizobia fix nitrogen into ammonia. During nodule invasion, the rhizobia gain access to newly divided cells, the nodule primordia, in the root inner cortex through plant-derived cellulose tubes called infection threads. Infection threads begin in curled root hairs and bring rhizobia into the root crossing several cell layers in the process. Ultimately the rhizobia are deposited within nodule primordium cells through a process resembling endocytosis. Plant host mechanisms underlying the formation and regulation of the invasion process are not understood. To identify and clone plant genes required for nodule invasion, recent efforts have focused on Medicago truncatula. In a collaborative effort the nodulation defect in the lin (lumpy infections) mutant was characterized. From an EMS-mutagenized population of M. truncatula, two non-allelic mutants nip (numerous infections with polyphenolics) and sli (sluggish infections) were identified with defects in nodule invasion. Infection threads were found to proliferate abnormally in the nip mutant nodules with only very rare deposition of rhizobia within plant host cells. nip nodules were found to accumulate polyphenolic compounds, indicative of a host defense response. Interestingly, nip was also found to have defective lateral root elongation suggesting that NIP has a role in both nodule and lateral root development. NIP was found to map at the upper arm of chromosome 1. In sli, infection threads were observed to bring rhizobia from infection threads to newly divided nodule primordium cells in the roots inner cortex. Polyphenolic accumulation in sli nodule/bumps was found. Lateral roots in sli were found to be clustered at the top of the root, indicating that sli like nip may be defective in lateral root development.

Background: Despite the importance of vaccination in disease prevention some people choose to remain unvaccinated. Nurses are influential in the choice to vaccinate. Considering the possibility of poor public understanding of vaccines and need for continued improvement in vaccination rates, it is essential for nurses to be knowledgeable and adept at addressing vaccine concerns. Vaccination education formally begins in nursing school. Objective: To identify nursing students' vaccine understanding by exploring information learned from formal online vaccine education specifically the Nursing Initiative Promoting Immunization Training Modules (NIP-IT). Design/Setting/Participants/Methods: Nursing students enrolled in a Community Health Nursing course were required to complete three online, self-study, modules entitled Vaccine Preventable Diseases, Vaccine Concerns, and Nursing Roles. The nursing students who completed these modules responded, in writing, to an open-ended prompt asking them to identify what new piece of information they learned. Responses gathered from 244 nursing students between September of 2016 and April of 2018 were categorized and grouped according to theme using a first and second cycle coding process. Responses containing more than one idea were considered separate responses and categorized accordingly totaling 273 responses. Results: Nursing student responses revealed five major themes regarding new information learned from the online modules: (1) barriers to vaccination; (2) components of vaccines; (3) the influence of nurses; (4) vaccine-preventable diseases; and (5) community immunity. Conclusion: Formal vaccine education is a critical component of a comprehensive nursing program. The nursing students in this study described information they learned when completing the NIP-IT modules, thus it was inferred the nursing students did not have a full understanding of vaccine concepts prior to viewing the modules. Formal nursing school vaccine education is essential in developing nurses capable of navigating vaccine issues and promoting health and preventing disease through vaccination advocacy.

Os dados de entrada para a inversão tomográfica, isto é, o tempo de trânsito e os atributos da onda PIN (raio de curvatura da frente de onda emergente e ângulo de emergência), são retirados de uma série de pontos escolhidos na seção afastamento nulo (AN) simulada, obtida pelo método de empilhamento por superfícies de reflexão comum (SRC). Normalmente, a escolha destes pontos na seção AN é realizada utilizando-se programas de picking automático, que identificam eventos localmente coerentes na seção sísmica com base nos parâmetros fornecidos pelo usuário. O picking é um dos processos mais críticos dos métodos de inversão tomográfica, pois a inclusão de dados de eventos que não sejam de reflexões primárias podem ser incluídos neste processo, prejudicando assim o modelo de velocidades a ser obtido pela inversão tomográfica. Este trabalho tem por objetivo de construir um programa de picking interativo para fornecer ao usuário o controle da escolha dos pontos de reflexões sísmicas primárias, cujos dados serão utilizados na inversão tomográfica. Os processos de picking e inversão tomográfica são aplicados nos dados sintéticos Marmousi e nos dados da linha sísmica 50-RL-90 da Bacia do Tacutu. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que o picking interativo para a escolha de pontos sobre eventos de reflexões primárias favorece na obtenção de um modelo de velocidade mais preciso. In this work, a new tomographic reflection inversion method is studied, with the objective of determining smooth and isotropic velocity models for real and synthetic seismic data. The velocity model is obtained by the program NIPTOMO, which is an implementation of a tomographic inversion method of the kinematic attributes of the hypothetical waves NIP (normal incidence point). The input data for the tomographic inversion, e. g., traveltime tables and NIP attributes (wavefront curvature radius and emergence angle) are obtained through a set of picked points on a simulated zero-offset (ZO) section, previously obtained by the common-reflection surface (CRS) method. The choice of picked points in a ZO section is normally made using automatic picking programs that identify locally coherent events in a seismic section, based in user-defined parameters. The picking process is one of the most critical steps in this new method, since the choice of non primary reflection events, such as diffractions and multiples, may lead to errors in the velocity model obtained by the tomographic inversion. This work has as main objective develop an interative picking program to give to the user the control of the choice of primary reflection points that are used as input for the tomographic inversion. The present picking program was tested on the synthetic Marmousi dataset and on a real data from the Tacutu Basin, Brazil (seismic line 50-RL-90). The results obtained show that the interative picking process for the choice of primary reflection events points favors the determination of a precise velocity model.

Les conditions d'electrodeposition d'alliages de nip, fep et nifep amorphes et microcristallises ont ete etudiees dans le but d'electroformer des spheres creuses a hautes caracteristiques mecaniques destinees a la fabrication d'un nouveau materiau composite. La presence d'agent de detentionnement dans les electrolytes de nip joue un role tres important sur le potentiel de degagement de l'hydrogene. Nous montrons que celui-ci intervient egalement dans le processus de codeposition du phosphore et par consequent sur la structure de l'alliage depose. L'etude de la cinetique des reactions cathodiques lors de l'electrodeposition des alliages de fep conduit a la formulation d'electrolytes de nifep stables. L'etude systematique de l'influence des differents parametres electrolytiques sur la composition chimique des depots de nifep montre que l'enrichissement des depots en phosphore s'effectue au detriment du fer. L'etude des caracteristiques structurales des alliages bruts d'elaboration et apres traitements thermiques, a revele que des trois etats: amorphe, microcristallise et cristallise, c'est l'etat intermediaire qui presente les meilleures proprietes mecaniques. Ainsi l'alliage ni#9#6p#4 permet d'obtenir une resistance a la rupture ameliore de 110% par rapport aux spheres de nickel pur cristallise, ce qui aboutit a un gain de resistance en compression du materiau composite de 72%

With this point of vision the Nacional Agency of Suplementary Health of Brazil (ANS) established a procedure called Intermediation Preliminary Notification (NIP), which allows the regulatory agency intermediate conflicts between beneficiaries and health care providers more quickly. From the perspective of healthcare companies these notifications can mean a high cost if not answered promptly. The aim of this work is to present a solution through the implementation of a computerized system requests management and workflow, so that healthcare companies can have ways to ensure the process of responding to requests with a quick information retrieval, allowing answers to ANS, others agencies and the media, timely whenever necessary. This work demonstrates that the implementation of a computerized system contributed to the efficiency of service and improvement of the quality of the services provided by the health care company, presenting significant results in quantitative terms, as well as providing indicators that allow managers to perform real-time monitoring, historical reporting, and quick retrieval of documents. It was used the methodology of action research (Martins & Theóphilo, 2009) in this work and it could contribute to the improvement of services and reduction of risks arising from primary intermediation notifications in healthcare companies. A Mediação Ativa de Conflitos foi definida como um conceito e um método de solução de conflitos que visa o consenso e a facilitação do diálogo entre as partes. Com esta visão a Agência Nacional de Saúde Complementar (ANS) estabeleceu um procedimento chamado Notificação de Intermediação Preliminar (NIP), que permite à agência reguladora intermediar e mediar conflitos entre os beneficiários e as operadoras de saúde com mais agilidade. Sob a ótica das operadoras estas notificações podem significar um elevado custo caso não sejam respondidas tempestivamente. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma solução, por meio da implantação de um sistema informatizado de gestão de solicitações e fluxo de trabalho, para que operadoras de saúde possuam meios de garantir o processo de atendimento às solicitações com uma rápida recuperação de informações, permitindo respostas a ANS, respostas a demais órgãos reguladores e resposta a mídia, tempestivamente, sempre que necessário. Como resultado este trabalho demonstra que a implantação de um sistema informatizado contribuiu para eficiência do atendimento e melhoria da qualidade dos serviços prestados de uma operadora de saúde, tendo apresentado como resultados significativos em termos quantitativos, além de proporcionar a apresentação de indicadores que permitem aos gestores fazer a monitoração da operação em tempo real, relatórios históricos e rápida recuperação dos documentos do processo. Neste trabalho foi utilizada a metodologia de pesquisa-ação (Martins & Theóphilo, 2009) e o resultado deve contribuir para as operadoras de saúde que buscam melhorias dos serviços prestados e diminuição dos riscos decorrentes das notificações de intermediação preliminar.

Ceci est une thèse en théorie des modèles appliquée à l'algèbre. Dans cette thèse nous étudions la théorie des corps pseudo-réels clos (corps PRC) et pseudo-p-adiquement clos (corps PpC) bornés d'un point de vue modèle-théorique. Les corps PRC et PpC sont des généralisations des corps pseudo-algébriquement clos (corps PAC), des corps réels clos, et des corps p-adiquement clos. Le résultat principal de cette thèse est une réponse positive à la conjecture de Chernikov, Kaplan et Simon : Si M est un corps PRC, alors M est borné si et seulement si Th(M) est NTP2. Dans le cas des corps PpC nous prouvons que si M est un corps PpC borné, alors Th(M) est NTP2. Nous généralisons également ce résultat pour obtenir que si M est un corps PRC (respectivement PpC) borné avec exactement n ordres (respectivement n valuations p-adiques), alors Th(M) est forte de fardeau n. Ceci permet également de calculer explicitement le fardeau des types et de décrire la déviation. D'autres résultats importants sont des résultats d'amalgamation de types et l'élimination des imaginaires pour les corps PRC bornés This is a thesis in model theory applied to algebra. In this thesis we study the theory of bounded pseudo real closed fields (PRC fields) and pseudo p-adically closed fields (PpC fields) from a model theoretic point of view. The classes of bounded PRC and PpC fields are generalizations of those of pseudo-algebraically closed fields (PAC fields), real closed fields, and p-adically closed fields. The main result of the thesis is a positive answer to the conjecture by Chernikov, Kaplan and Simon: If M is a PRC-field, then Th(M) is NTP2 if and only if M is bounded. In the case of PpC fields, we prove that if M is a bounded PpC field, then Th(M) is NTP2. We also generalize this result to obtain that, if M is a bounded PRC or PpC field with exactly n orders or p-adic valuations respectively, then Th(M) is strong of burden n. This also allows us to explicitly compute the burden of types, and to describe forking. Other results of independent interest are some amalgamation results, and the elimination of imaginaries for bounded PRC fields. Abstract:

Bioengineering M.S. NIBP is a prototype member of a novel protein family. It forms a novel subcomplex of NIK-NIBP-IKKB and enhances cytokine-induced IKKB-mediated NFKB activation. It is also named TRAPPC9 as a key member of trafficking particle protein (TRAPP) complex II, which is essential in trans-Golgi networking (TGN). The signaling pathways and molecular mechanisms for NIBP actions remain largely unknown. The aim of this research is to identify potential proteins interacting with NIBP, resulting in the regulation of NFKB signaling pathways and other unknown signaling pathways. At the laboratory of Dr. Wenhui Hu in the Department of Neuroscience, Temple University, sixteen partner proteins were experimentally identified that potentially bind to NIBP. NIBP is a novel protein with no entry in the Protein Data Bank. From a computational and bioinformatics standpoint, we use prediction of secondary structure and protein disorder as well as homology-based structural modeling approaches to create a hypothesis on protein-protein interaction between NIBP and the partner proteins. Structurally, NIBP contains three distinct regions. The first region, consisting of 200 amino acids, forms a hybrid helix and beta sheet-based domain possibly similar to Sybindin domain. The second region comprised of approximately 310 residues, forms a tetratrico peptide repeat (TPR) zone. The third region is a 675 residue long all beta sheet and loops zone with as many as 35 strands and only 2 helices, shared by Gryzun-domain containing proteins. It is likely to form two or three beta sheet sandwiches. The TPR regions of many proteins tend to bind to the peptides from disordered regions of other proteins. Many of the 16 potential binding proteins have high levels of disorder. These data suggest that the TPR region in NIBP most likely binds with many of these 16 proteins through peptides and other domains. It is also possible that the Sybindin-like domain and the Gryzun-like domain containing beta sheet sandwiches bind to some of these proteins. Temple University--Theses

Abstract:

Dans ce travail, nous avons étudié la structure électronique de l'oxyde de nickel massif, ainsi que les effets de reconstruction structurale des surfaces NiO(001) et NiO(111) terminée par un plan d'atomes d'oxygène. Pour se faire, nous avons utilise la méthode des ondes planes augmentées par projection (PAW), qui permet de déterminer la configuration géométrique et électronique de l'état fondamental grâce au concept de minimisation globale de la fonctionnelle énergie totale, développé par Car-Parrinello. Afin de tenir compte des effets de corrélation pour les électrons d, qui jouent un rôle prépondérant dans les propriétés électroniques de NiO, nous avons implémenté une correction de Hubbard multi-orbitales (LDA + U). Ceci nous a permis de reproduire correctement l'état fondamental antiferromagnétique isolant, ainsi que les propriétés optiques de NiO massif. Nous avons égalemment appliqué cette méthode aux surfaces NiO(001) et NiO(111). Les effets de reconstruction et les modifications de la structure électronique de la surface (001) de NiO comparé au volume restent faibles. En revanche, la surface polaire (111) en reconstruction octopolaire p(22) terminée par un plan d'atomes d'oxygène présente de profondes modifications dans la structure électronique ainsi que de relaxation atomiques.

Humankapital har ökat i betydelse då allt fler företag har blivit så kallade kunskapsföretag, vilka inriktar sig på att skapa värde genom att endast erbjuda personalens kunskap, kompetens och erfarenhet. Humankapitalet menar forskare, är en tillgång för företaget och borde därför också redovisas som en sådan, precis som företagets andra tillgångar. Dock får inte humankapital i dagens läge tas upp som en tillgång i den finansiella rapporten. Det redovisas därför ofta frivilligt av företagen i hållbarhetsredovisningar. Kunskapsföretagen borde enligt forskare vara de som redovisar absolut mest information om sitt humankapital, då det är företags viktigaste tillgång. Forskare menar också att företagens storlek är en faktor som påverkar hur mycket humankapital som redovisas. Är detta verkligheten? Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka om det finns några skillnader i hur kunskapsföretag och industriföretag redovisar sitt humankapital i sin årsredovisning samt om företagets storlek påverkar mängden humankapital som återfinns i företagens årsredovisningar. Metoden som används var en kvalitativ dokumentundersökning. I empiri och analys kapitlet finns företagssammanfattningar och vad Scoreboarden gav för resultat. Resultatet redovisas utefter Scoreboardens olika kategorier: anställda, anställdas utbildning, anställdas välmående och motivation, övrig kvalitativ information, styrelse och ledning. Resultatet analyseras också utefter kategori för att underlätta överskådligheten och analysen. Vi delar sedan upp Scoreboarden i två övergripande kategorier: ”Anställda” och ”Ledande befattningshavare”. En analys görs av dessa övergripande kategorier. ”Anställda” består av kategorierna: anställda, anställdas utbildning, anställdas välmående och motivation samt övrig kvalitativ information. ”Ledande befattningshavare” består av: styrelse och ledning. Sist analyseras skillnaden mellan företagens totala redovisning av humankapital. Slutsatser som kan dras utifrån undersökningen är att det finns en skillnad mellan kunskapsföretag och industriföretag om vi bryter ner informationen. Kunskapsföretagen redovisar mer information om ”Anställda”, medan industriföretagen redovisar mer om ”Ledande befattningshavare”. Studeras den totala bilden är skillnaderna mindre. Dock finner vi att industriföretagens redovisning av humankapital påverkas av företagets storlek, medan kunskapsföretaget inte uppvisar en sådan trend. Human capital has become increasingly important as more companies have become so called knowledge-based enterprises, which focuses on creating value by offering their staff knowledge, skills and experience. The human capital is, according to scientists, an asset to the company and should therefore be recognized as such, just like the company's other assets. However, human capital cannot be recognized as an asset in the financial report. Firms therefore often report this information voluntarily in sustainability reports. According to researchers, the knowledge companies should be the one that presents the most information regarding its human capital, since it is such a company's most important asset. Researchers also believe that corporate size is a factor that affects how much human capital is reported. Is this reality? The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether there are any differences in how knowledge- and industry enterprises reports its human capital in its annual report, and if the company's size affects the amount of human capital that can be found in corporate annual reports. The method used was a qualitative document examination. In the empirical evidence and analysis chapter, the reader can find company summaries and the results the scoreboard gave us. The results are reported according to the Scoreboards different categories: employees, employee training, employee well-being and motivation, other qualitative information, the board and management. The results are also analyzed by category to facilitate transparency and the analysis. We then divided the scoreboard into two overall categories: "Employees" and "Senior Management". An analysis is made of these overall categories. "Employee" is composed of the categories: employees, employee training, employee well-being and motivation and other qualitative information. "Senior management" consists of: Board and management. Finally, the difference between a company's overall human capital reporting is analyzed. The conclusions that can be drawn from the survey are that there is a difference between knowledge- and industry enterprises when they are broken down by categories. Knowledge Enterprises presents more information about "Employees", while industrial companies report more about "Senior Management". Looking at the total picture, the differences are minor; however, we find that the industrial firms' reporting of human capital is influenced by firm size, while the knowledge company does not exhibit such a trend.

Antike Texte aus dem Wüstensand @ Digitales Handwerkszeug lautet das Thema des diesjährigen Alfried Krupp-Sommerkurses für antike Schriftkultur an der Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig, der vom 7. bis 13. September 2014 in den Räumen der Bibliotheca Albertina stattfindet und sich der Papyrologie widmet. Dabei sind Texte aus dem gyptischen Kulturraum nicht nur auf Papyrus, sondern auch auf (Ton-)Scherben, Pergament und Papier geschrieben. Der Sommerkurs beschäftigt mit literarischen, paraliterarischen und dokumentarischen Texten auf Griechisch und Latein. Griechisch war etwa tausend Jahre lang die Verwaltungssprache Ägyptens, und zwar von der Eroberung des Landes durch Alexander den Großen im Jahr 332 v. Chr. – und der Gründung der Stadt, die seinen Namen trägt, im Jahr 331 v. Chr. – bis zur Eroberung durch die Araber mit der Einnahme von Alexandria im Jahr 641 n. Chr.
