Abstract:
In the paper a static analysis of two-fingered grips is presented. Importance of grasp analysis in human performance engineering and hand therapy is discussed and assessment methods are proposed. Two precision grips were examined in the study: nippers pinch and tip pinch. We have built a grip-measuring device assessing the endpoint forces of two-oppositional grips. The instrument developed is based on a robotic force-wrist sensor and designed to suit human fingers. Through the simultaneous use of an optical measuring system and the grip-measuring device, the finger positions and the grip force acting on the object were obtained. A static model of the hand was also developed. A recursive computational method was used to calculate the joint torques of the fingers from the measured coordinates and the endpoint force vector. The estimated joint torque corresponds to the amount of load on the tendon during isometric muscle contraction. The force output of the two grips considered is presented and compared in two healthy individuals. The calculated joint torques for the index finger and thumb are presented and the maximal values of the finger joint torques acquired in the study are shown.

Abstract:

Abstract:
PURPOSE: To analyze the viability of using SITRACC® (single-portal access) to make partial or total nephrectomy in pigs and also to describe the technical difficulties found during these surgical procedures. METHODS: Ten pigs (Landrace specie) with 20kg in average were distributed in two groups: Group A - total right nephrectomy - and Group B - partial left nephrectomy -. The anesthetic procedure was initially done with thiopental (10mg/kg) and maintained with halothane. The surgical procedures were performed inside the Surgical Technique Room from Pontifical Catholic University of Parana (PUCPR). RESULTS: It was analyzed the surgery duration, time to insert SITRACC®, the volemic loss and the size of the organ. In the first surgeries, the surgical time and blood volume loss were higher (between 15 to 43 minutes and 120 to 400 mL, respectively). The more the procedure was performed, the more the surgeons were used to the technique, so the bleeding and the time of surgery was significantly reduced to 15 minutes and 50 mL of blood loss, respectively. The difficulties found were associated with the nippers, however that was not relevant for the surgical technique. It was also found that the intra-body suture caused an expressive volemic loss. CONCLUSION: The total and partial nephrectomy through umbilical single-access by using SITRACC® was feasible and safe in pigs.

Higgerson, Amanda. "An investigation of Surf Life Saving Australia's Junior Development Program for Nippers." Thesis, Federation University Australia, 2020. http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/HandleResolver/1959.17/174691.

Abstract:
The primary aim of Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA), through their State and Territory bodies is to provide safe coastal environments for Australian beach goers. With over 312 affiliated clubs across Australia, SLSA provides an opportunity for primary school aged children (Nippers) to experience water safety and aquatic education in an open water environment. Nippers in the Under 8-Under 13 years age groups are involved in a participation-based education program known as the Junior Development Program (JDP), which aims to develop skills required for future lifesaving (Giles & Slade, 2012). The overall aim of this research was to identify and explore the barriers and enablers to involvement in SLSA’s JDP from the perspective of the participants, their parents/carers and those involved in the delivery of the program. Utilising a multiphase mixed method design, 341 Nippers from eight surf lifesaving clubs in New South Wales completed a questionnaire and 30 interviews were conducted – 19 with parents/carers from seven of the eight participating lifesaving clubs, and 11 Age Managers from six of the eight clubs. The findings indicated that the Nippers perceived most lifesaving skills were important and were happy/very happy to be learning about safety of themselves and how to assist others in the surf. Most concerns related to unknowns in terms of sea creatures and adverse weather conditions like storms and lightening. Interviewees believed Nipper participation was based on interpersonal and intrapersonal reasons, with socialisation a positive aspect of the program. In line with common fears reported by Nippers, interviewees reported unfavourable environmental conditions, including big surf, cold weather, weed and stingers, as barriers to participation. The findings and opinions from those involved in the JDP provide insights into barriers and enablers to participation in the program, which is intended to provide important guidance for future delivery of the JDP across Australia.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Ultrasound examination is widely used in many areas of veterinary medicine, including in the diagnosis of endometritis and pregnancy in cows. However, visual diagnosis of the udder in cows has not been widely used in practice, as it does not allow to make a final diagnosis. At the same time, using ultrasound, we have the opportunity to get a clear visualization of structures, understand the severity of changes in tissues, and ultrasound is also a good method of assessing the quality of treatment in dynamics, especially for scientific purposes. In the study, patients with cow mastitis were treated with platelet autoplasm (TAP) and the healing time was compared with the use of standard antibiotic therapy.

Abstract:
Stainless steel fittings such as elbows, tees, nipples and so on have been widely used in mechanical structures and chemical plants, it is well known that the leakage in the fittings used sealing tapes is less than that without the sealing tapes. In a practical design, it is necessary to examine the stress states and the leakage in the fittings under internal pressure and external loads such as tensile loads, bending moments and so on. This paper deals with the FEM stress analysis of the fittings subjected to internal pressure. In the FEM calculations, the engaged screw threads are taken into consideration as helical threads in the three-dimension. The leakage tests for the fittings under internal pressure were also conducted by using liquid (oil). Using the results of the leakage tests and the calculated stress states in the fittings, the sealing performance of the fittings under internal pressure was evaluated and the effect of the tightening torque was clarified on the sealing performance. In addition, the numerical results were compared with the experimental results. As the result, the effects of the sealing tapes on the contact stress distributions were also clarified.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract An advanced downhole sub-surface safety valve (SSSV) has been developed to create an improved well control solution for slim-line, cable deployed Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) applications. The new SSSV enables all safety regulations to be met whilst simplifying deployment and retrieval. During traditional ESP deployments the production tubing is replaced, allowing power cables and control lines to run outside the tubing. However, slim-line cable deployed ESPs are retrofitted through existing tubing, which means the ESP cable and SSSV control lines can cause an obstruction to the existing SSSV. To maintain a functioning SSSV a modified valve can be retrofitted into an existing safety valve profile nipple and is designed to seal around the ESP cable. However, this option is limited to wells with existing wireline retrievable SSSV profile nipples and associated control lines that are in acceptable condition. The new advanced SSSV does not require a control line and functions based on the ESP intake to discharge differential pressure signal. The valve is installed at the ESP depth and opens when the ESP is pumping, with a fail-safe closing mechanism when the ESP is switched off. The deployment configuration can be varied to suit the application, either as an ingrated part of the cable deployed ESP assembly, or separately. As sealing around the ESP cable is not required, the new technology significantly reduces cost and complexity of cable deployed ESP installations where a SSSV is required. The new technology can also be used in other artificial lift systems.
