Full textMore or less sport in schools is a big debate that divides Sweden. Studies show that daily physical activity during school hours improves the grades of the students and also increase satisfaction of the students’. What happens if there is too much sport? Good? Bad? The purpose of the study is to examine students' perceived health, motivation and development over time of the NIU football. How the amount of training does affects school, sport and leisure time? The method that was chosen in this study is a qualitative approach where five semi-structured focus group interviews were conducted, and one semi-structured interview. Eleven girls and eleven boys participated in the study from grade one and grade three on three different nationally approved sports programs in upper secondary school (NIU). The results showed that the amount of training that became in the beginning of the time of the NIU-football was above many. They often became sick / injured early in upper secondary school. Students’ priority in most cases football before school. Students were agreed that all had been developed and a major in terms of football records, many had also received another image of football. During the students' first time at NIU teachers / coaches should prioritize lectures on nutrition and recovery instead of three sessions a week during school hours. Increase the amount of exercise gradually and let the students enter secondary school world. Should all this be moved up to the academic level instead (university / college)?

Full textAim The purpose of this study was to investigate if relative age effect occurs at Swedish cross-country ski schools and if there were a differences in the presence among boys and girls, and between Riksidrottsgymnasier (Country-wide sport academy) and Nationell Idrottsutbildning (National sport academy). Method To answer the aim, statistical data were analyzed using a Pearson Chi2-test. The analysis has been done by examining birth month, sex and education among students at Swedish cross-country ski schools between 2010-2015. Results The result shows that there is a significant evidence of relative age effect at Swedish cross-country ski schools (p= <0,05). When the results were partial between Riksidrottsgymnasier and Nationell Idrottsutbildning, the relative age effect was only seen at Riksidrottsgymnasierna. There were no significant evidence for relative age effect when boys and girls where analyzed separately. Conclusion The results show that relative age effect appears on Swedish cross-country ski schools; however, there were some varies between analyzed variables. Strongest evidence for relative age effect was seen at Riksidrottsgymnaiserna. Further research is needed to get a overview of the consequences of relative age effect at cross-country ski schools, and the consequences it has in Swedish cross-country skiing overall, both for younger and older skiers.

Full textSammanfattning Inom den svenska gymnasieskolan förekommer det specialidrottsutbildningar med syfte att ge eleverna en möjlighet att kombinera studier och sin specifika idrott. I denna uppsats kartläggs utfallet av en NIU-fotboll gymnasiala utbildning samt skolornas förmåga att utbilda elitspelare. Syfte frågeställning Syftet med studien var att kartlägga sambandet mellan genomförd specialidrotts utbildning och elevers framtida elitkarriär. Studien kommer att besvaras genom följande frågeställningar: Hur många spelare på elitnivå har genomfört en NIU-fotboll utbildning? Skiljer sig skolorna åt gällande antal elever som når elitnivå? Påverkar skolornas geografiska placering hur många som når elitnivå? Påverkar skolornas föreningssamarbete hur många som når elitnivå? Existerar det någon skillnad mellan kvinnor och män? Metod En kvantitativ ansats har använts för att undersöka 2400 manliga och kvinnliga fotbollsspelare. Insamlingen av materialet har skett genom kontakt med alla 68 NIU-skolor samt Svenska fotbollförbundet som tillhandahåller informationen om spelarnas lag-tillhörigheter och nivå. Resultat 51,8% kvinnor, 53,8% män samt 53% av det totala antalet spelare på elitnivå har genomgått en NIU-fotboll utbildning. De observerade skolorna skiljer sig åt gällande antal elever som når elitfotboll. 5,68% ±5,47% elever per skola når elitfotboll, gällande män 4,62% ±6,08% och kvinnor 8,31% ±10,66%. Ett oparat T-test visade ingen signifikant skillnad (p<0,05) gällande geografisk placering för totalt antal spelare (p=0,747), män (p=0,817) eller kvinnor (p=0,807. Skolornas samarbete med en elitförening visade signifikanta skillnader (p<0,05) gällande totalt antal spelare (p=0,006) och män (p=0,004). Dock fanns det ingen signifikant skillnad gällande kvinnor (p=0,462) Slutsats En NIU-utbildning tycks öka elevernas chanser till en elitkarriär. När det kommer till skolornas elitsamarbete så tyder resultaten på att det är gynnsamt för män. Den geografiska placeringen tycks dock inte påverka resultatet. Slutligen, framtida studier behövs för att påvisa anledningarna till varför vissa skolor får fram fler spelare till elitnivå.

Full textAim The purpose of this study was to investigate whether handball instructors who teach special sports in Swedish national approved education in special sport schools experienced stress in their profession, based on the Demand-Control-Support-theory. Questions Which demands does instructors experience in their profession? What control does instructors experience that they have in their profession? Which support do instructors experience in their profession? Method The purpose of this study was to obtain descriptive data concerning how coaches in elite sport in the school perceive different stressors in elite sport in the school. Therefore, we chose to conduct a qualitative interview study that was based on the Demand-Control-Support-theory. Interviews were conducted by telephone in order to implement include instructors across the country. The selection group consisted of eight male handball instructors in Sweden. They are 40 years or older and are all working within the NIU (nationally certified athlete program) in high school. Results The instructors felt demands from both Swedish handball association (SHF) and from the players themselves to create a high quality education. They had a great opportunity to influence their own work situation and they had a good support. The results showed that the instructors experienced relatively high demands in combination with high support and a high control. According to the Demand-Control-Support-theory, this occupation falls under the category participating leaders, combined with active. Conclusion The conclusion to bethat was drawn from this study was that handball instructors within NIU according to the Demand-Control-Support-theory belonged to the category participating leaders, combined with active. According to the demand-control-support-theory, this suggested that individuals, despite the high demand placed upon them, are given the opportunity to test their own solutions. This leads to reduced stress. The social support the instructors experienced created further opportunities for stress management and also helped instructors to deal with changes that may occur in the aspect of demand and control.

Full textAim The aim of this study is to investigate and increase knowledge, and gain a deeper understanding of assessment in special sports. Questions: 1: How does educated teachers who teach in special sports at NIU assesses practical skills in handball and football? 2: How familiar and to what extent do educated teachers in special sport use assessment guides and topic plan? Method The study used a qualitative approach in the form of interviews. The interviews were conducted by a semi-structured interview guide. A total of six people were interviewed in the study. The data were processed and interpreted by two theoretical points, curriculum theory and Bourdieu's theory and the related concepts used to each theory. Results The results show that teachers are familiar with the curriculum, but think that it is unclear and vague. The teachers have read the assessment supports but does not use them. Further, it discusses the teachers on continuous assessment, and that is something all teachers working with. The teachers base their assessment of student achievement, but the teachers also mentions that the main purpose of the special physical education is that students should be given the opportunity to develop into that great athletes as possible in their sport. Conclusions The first conclusion is that teachers at NIU do not use assessment supports the extent of schooling certainly had hoped for, and in the sense pins assessment support its purpose. The second conclusion is that the assessment is ongoing and that the assessment is based on student performance. Students will have the opportunity to develop and are given feedback by the ongoing assessment, but the assessment is based on the results students are performing in their sport.

Full textAbstract Aim The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of mental health in National elite athletic students. Furthermore, the aim was to examine attitudes towards help seeking if needed. Differences, similarities and correlation between groups was also examined. Are the students experiencing mental illness and to what extent? Is there a difference between girls and boys? Is there a correlation between hours of training and mental illness? Is there a difference between girls and boys? What are the attitudes towards help seeking if needed? Is there a difference between girls and boys? Method The number of recruited NIU-students were 146. 62 of them were girls and 84 of them were boys. Six different schools were selected by a comfort selection. The survey was digital and answered through the participants’ mobile phones. Furthermore, the survey was conducted either before, in the middle or after a lecture. The study contained two different surveys which were GHQ-12 and MHSAS. The aim of the study was shortly presented to the students before the survey was conducted. Results The results demonstrates that 42 % of the students are experiencing mental illness. Girls are experiencing mental illness in greater occurrence than boys with a significant difference (Z=-5,321, p<0,001). The participants who perform more training hours per week are also the ones experiencing a higher grade of mental illness (r=0,230 och p=0,005). There was a correlation between boys’ mental illness and hours of training (r=0,292, p=0,007). More than 55 % of the participants are having a positive attitude towards help seeking in case of eventual experienced mental illness. No significant differences were found between groups. Conclusions The results of this study suggests that more than a third of the students are experiencing mental illness. This study also shows girls experiencing a higher grade of mental illness than boys. Hours of training and perceived mental illness was found to correlate for the total group. A correlation was also found between boys’ perceived mental illness and hours of training. The findings can be used for further studies to establish more comprehension and information related to young athletes’ mental health.

Full textSummary Aim The aim of the study was that by four football instructors examine how any stress experienced in their profession in special sports at NIU schools (national sports training). Questions What requirements it is felt, by the instructor, is in his profession? How does the instructor to handle the demands made on him in his profession? How does the instructor think his needs for support are met? Method We have in the study chose to limit ourselves to four coaches operating in Stockholm. Our ambition is not to express an opinion of the entire group soccer instructors at NIU schools. The aim is to describe some trainers inner thoughts and feelings. Another limitation is that we chose to only interview the men in the study. In the context of the sample, there is no female soccer instructors operate. We chose to conduct a qualitative study in the form of descriptive interviews based on demand-control-supportmodel and even based some from Carlsson & Lindahl (2012) structure as they have had in their thesis regarding whether handball instructors who teach in special sports at NIU schools are experiencing stress in their professional capacity. Results All instructors are experiencing demands in their professional capacity, but mostly internal demands made by the individual himself. Three of the instructors feel they have control on the specified requirements and a good support in their professional capacity. One instructor perceives little control on the specified requirements and also lack support in his professional capacity. Conclusions We can see that three of the four football instructors do not feel that the professional role is stress-related. However, we can deduce that one football instructor experience his professional role as stress-related.

Full textAim The aim of this study is to examine how five teachers view talentidentification, how they execute the tryout process to elite academy schools and also how they relate to relative age effect(RAE) in the tryout process. The questions being answered in this study are: 1. How do the teachers view talentidentification? 2. How is the tryout process being performed and what difficulties do the teachers experience with the tryout process? 3. What knowledge do the teachers have in regards to RAE and how do they relate to RAE during the tryout process? Method The method being used is qualitative and is executed by performing semi-structured interviews. The purpose of our interviews is to examine how the teachers experience the tryout process and their approach when working with RAE. The reason for the explorative nature is because we have an area to survey and also gather deeper information about, in this case, RAE in relationship to the tryout process to elite academy schools. The selection consisted of five teachers (teacher 1, teacher 2, teacher 3, teacher 4 and teacher 5) that all had different experiences of working as a teacher and with elite academy school. Results The result showed that there are differences among teachers involved in individual sports in relation to teachers working with team sports, in regards to what kind of attributes a talent should possess. For the teachers, teacher 3 and teacher 4, which represented individual sports it appeared that sport specific knowledge was most important when identifying a talent. This identification can be performed at an early age. Teacher 1, 2 and 5 which represented team sports stressed the importance of the psychological skills that a talent must possess, in order to be identified as a talent. The result also showed that the tryouts is an equivocal process where the tryouts is executed differently depending on the sport and in some cases which school. In regards to difficulties with the tryout process and what the teachers valued similar responses were received. All teachers described the fear of eliminating someone who could possibly develop late and they all valued attributes as drive and dedication. All teachers also mention that they do not take RAE in consideration during the tryout process. Teachers 2 and 5 mention taking the physical development into consideration during the tryout process, however not which month a student applying is born. Conclusions This study brings up a problem that is very current due to the equivocality which is present during the tryout process to elite academy schools. The study also showed that the teachers had different opinions in regards to what talent is and how to identify it. The result showed that RAE is a rife phenomenon however it is not being taking into consideration during the tryout process to elite academy schools.

Full textAim This study aims to investigate from a gender perspective whether elite sports girls are affected by body perception of elite sports girls is affected by social media. This has been done with the help of the following questions: 1. What does the use of social media look like among elite girls? 2. How do the girls present themselves on social media? 3. How do the girls feel that they are influenced by the body ideal that is presented on socialmedia? Method The questions have been answered through a qualitative method where six semi-structuredinterviews have been conducted with elite sports girls in high school where the convenienceselection was used. To analyze the result, the gender theory has been used and the discussioninterpreted with the help of the behaviorist perspective. Results The results show that the informants use social media for up to four hours a day, especially during transport, when they are bored and to communicate with friends. When respondents publish material on their own channels, they choose to present themselves on the basis of what they think is their best side, which usually does not reflect the reality in which the girls live. This is because they attach great importance to the reactions that come with a publication, in the form of likes, comments and followers. Most of the interviewees describe that social media has a great impact on everyday life and that it can have a number of different consequences, including eating disorders and comparative behaviors. Conclusion The conclusion of the study is that elite sports girls in high school, who were interviewed for this survey, are influenced by the body ideals found on social media. This is mainly due to the number of photos that abound on women who represent an unattainable ideal on, for example, Instagram. Gender theory believes that this can be explained by society's construction of what is considered to be female and male, respectively.

Full textAim of the study The aim of this study is to investigate and to broaden the knowledge of assessment in physical education studies and the courses in sports specialization 1, 2 & 3, centered on the coaches’ descriptions of the practical part of the subject. This study aims to answer the following question formulations: 1. How do the coaches describe learning in the practical part of physical education studies, emphasizing on football? 2. How do the coaches work with assessment in the practical part of physical education studies, emphasizing on football? 3. How do the coaches interpret the curriculum in the practical part of the subject of physical education focused on football? Method We carried out a qualitative study where six coaches participated from national sports high-schools in Stockholm. The study is based on semi-structured interviews, which based from an interview guide. The requirement to participate in the study was that all coaches were active at an national sports high school in 2016/2017. The premise of the paper is John Deweys theories of learning and Göran Lindes curriculum theory. Result The result shows that the interpretation of the curriculum differs among the coaches. Furthermore, the result shows that the coaches assess the students differently. Most of the coaches in the interview considered that learning was to be about acquiring skills and to develop these skills. According to the result, the coaches agrees to that the aim of the students is to reach national elite level in football when the graduate from high-school Conclusion The authentic situations that the coaches put their students in, vary among the coaches, which depends on how the coaches choose to interpret and realize the curriculum. The subject physical educationand the specialisation courses in sports have weak boundaries which leads to the difficult and open interpretation of the curriculum. The coaches may form their own interpretation of the curriculum, which means that the trainers in the study assess their students differently and teach different according to what is stipulated in the curriculum. In view of the outcome, there is a need for a common view of what to assess and how it should be applied practically in teaching.

Resumo: Neste trabalho, investigamos a viabilidade do mecanismo de pólo do píon ('gama"gama"seta"'pi'POT.0"seta"niu"niu'BARRA') como mecanismo alternativo para o resfriamento do núcleo estelar de estrelas de alta massa durante o processo de colapso gravitacional. Em especial, concentramos nossa atenção no vínculo para a luminosidade de neutrinos emitidos pela supernova SN1987A. Mostramos que ao incorporar os efeitos do meio nuclear denso no propagador piônico através da eoria de Migdal para sistemas fermiônicos finitos, o mecanismo de pólo do píon é suprimido e que por causa diss não conseguimos obter nenhum vínculo significativo para o decaimento do píon em neutrinos.
Abstracts: In this work, we investigate the viability of the pion pole mechanism ('gama"gama"seta"'pi'POT.0"seta"niu"niu'BARRA') as an alternative mechanism for the cooling of stellar nucleus of massive stars during the gravitational collapse. In particular we concentrate our attention on a possible constrain on the neutrino's luminosity from the supernova SN1987A. We show that incorporating the effects of the dense nuclear medium througt the Migdal's theory for finite fermionic systems in the pion propagator, the pion pole mechanism is supressed and we cannot obtain any meaningful constrain for the pion decay into neutrinos.

Full textSammanfattning Syfte och frågeställningar Syftet med min studie är att ta reda på hur mycket resurser och fokus som läggs på utbildning av målvakter på nationellt godkända idrottsutbildningar (NIU) Vilken uppfattning har lärare i specialidrott om målvaktsträning, och hur denna ska bedrivas? Finns det tillgång till utbildad målvaktstränare, och i så fall hur ofta finns de(n) tillgänglig(a)? Metod Studien är kvalitativ. Empirin är insamlad med hjälp av semistrukturerade frågeställningar via mailkontakt och telefonintervju. Urvalet till min studie baseras på ett totalt urval, där jag kontaktade samtliga 30 NIU med innebandy i Sverige. Totalt svarade 26 av de 30 tillfrågade skolorna. Som teoretiskt ramverk har helhets- och delkapacitetsteorin använts. Resultat Resultatet visar att det anses som en väldigt viktigt del i utbildningen att bedriva specifik målvaktsträning. Samtliga skolor bedriver också specifik styrke- och konditions träning för målvakterna. Det framgår att det är stor brist på kompetens och resurser vad gäller utbildade målvaktstränare. Dels saknas tidigare forskning på just målvakters krav och kapaciteter, dels kunskap om hur och varför målvaktsträning bör bedrivas, men det är även brist på ”kunniga” och utbildade målvaktstränare. Det framgår också att, även där det finns målvaktstränare så är tillgängligheten minimal. Den mest avgörande faktorn för tillgängligheten av målvaktstränare anses den ekonomiska aspekten vara. Ett alternativ som efterfrågas både från aktiva och från tränare är utvecklings- och utbildningsmaterial för just målvakter. Slutsats Det råder enighet om att det bör bedrivas specifik träning för målvakter med specialutbildade tränare. I studiens resultat framkommer att, för just de specifika positioner som en innebandymålvakt har, ses en helhets- och delkapacitetsträning som en optimal träning. Det föreligger dock en stor diskrepans mot hur träningen faktiskt bedrivs. I praktiken är det väldigt låg tillgänglighet på målvaktstränare, vilket anses bero på dels brist på ekonomiska resurser, dels brist på kunniga tränare.

Full textAim: The aim of this study was to investigate how elite athlete students in Swedish high schools are motivated towards their sports by Self-determination Theory and Organismic Integration Theory, regarding the Modified Sport Motivation Scale (SMS-6). The study further aims to investigate if elite athlete students had developed symptoms of burnout, regarding the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ). Finally, this study aims to investigate if there exist any correlations between student’s motivation and symptoms of burnout. Studies have reported findings of elite athletes as a special vulnerable group towards symptoms of burnout. Elite athletes train close to their limits, strain themselves to highest achievements. They are also part of that special vulnerable population who may experience symptoms of burnout due to a prolonged stress and pressure associated with elite sports. Methods: Data collection was obtained by emails between the investigators and high schools in Stockholm. 15 sport high schools were contacted by email and 7 of these high schools participated in the study. 131 elite athlete students participated in the study by answering a questionnaire which contained 39 items, specifically 24 items by SMS-6 and 15 items by ABQ. The questionnaire were answered by a 7 point Likert scale. Results: The three highest scored means by SMS-6 was the integrated motivation (M = 5,7), identified motivation (M = 4,9) and introjected motivation (M = 4,7). ABQ measure of burnout was (M = 3). The two major findings in the present study was a negative significant correlation reported for integrated motivation and burnout (-0,18) and a positive significant correlation reported for amotivation and burnout (0,37). Conclusion: By the results in the present study it seems as high levels of self-determinated motivation counteract symptoms of burnout. Thus it also seems as low levels of self-determinated motivation may contribute to symptoms of burnout.

Full textAim The aim of this study has been to investigate how teachers assess students practical skills in floorball at the Elite Sports Programs in the Swedish Upper Secondary School. Furthermore, the study aims to compare teachers assessment with the standards of attainment formulated by The Swedish National Agency for Education (SNAE) What skills do the interviewed teachers assess? How do the interviewed teachers assess the student’s skills? How do the interviewed teacher experience the work with assessment? Method With regards to the study's qualitative approach interview was chosen as method. The study delimits itself to the teachers who teach floorball as special sports. The selection was made taking into account the geographical spread and six teachers from six different schools participated in the study. As a theoretical approach, a measure theory were used where true amount, the teachers expressed assessments, compared to the symbol rate, the curriculum expressed judgments. The analysis of teachers' assessment used the model of "Performance analysis" as departure point. Results The results show that teachers assessed students in technique, technical use, tactics, movement and behavior based on the model, "Performance Analysis", as well as physical ability and pupils development over time. The assessment differed and there was an emphasis on a subjective assessment. Teachers experienced the grading process as challenging and fuzzy regarding the guidelines from the SNAE. Conclusion Teachers are well capable of assessing. Their basis for assessment is in accordance with research of athletic performance. There are no clear guidelines from SNAE or the Swedish Floorball Federation regarding the skills that should be assessed and furthermore how the assessment should form the basis for grading. This means that the assessment differs from school to school, with the risk that the grading is based on different grounds.

Full textMost elite sports careers have their start in sport clubs, and approximately 90 percent of all kids and adolescences in Sweden have, during their childhood, been members in a sport club. For most kids, the sport clubs imply a positive environment where all children should have an opportunity to participate on equal terms – until they suddenly don’t anymore. The play turns to seriousness and is now more and more becoming a matter of selection and talent identification. By being selected to a sport school the athletes have a good chance of combining the studies with their sports, which is an important motive in the Swedish sports model. The sports education has never been as varied as it is today, and it’s common to think that the athletes who have been selected to a sport school automatically will reach the top. Despite this, there are athletic adolescences who choose to quit their career after three years in a sport school. The purpose of this study was to investigate why young, talented handball players quit their career after three years in a sport school. Furthermore, it is investigated how the players experienced both their time at the sport school and their own disengagement process, and what handball associations should work with in order to get more young, talented handball players to stay in the sports. Qualitative interviews were conducted with eight former talented handball players in the ages 18-22, all of whom went to a sport school for three years. A semi-structured interview guide was constructed and all of the interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed. The main findings of the study show that drop-outs rarely depends on one single factor, and that most of the drop-outs for the adolescences’ in this study happened due to lack of social support, amotivation, the coaches, performance anxiety or a mix of multiple factors. The players drop-out process was analyzed with Ebaughs’ disengagement process. Furthermore, the impact of the sports environment for young, talented handball players and the importance of a social support for them is discussed and shows that these factors should be available for the players in sport schools to a greater extent. A good communication between the sport school and the players clubs was also considered important according to the former players.

Full textLas experiencias tempranas tienen un papel importante en el desarrollo cerebral y las respuestas emocionales. La separación maternal supone un factor de riesgo de desarrollar enfermedades psiquiátricas, mientras que el modelo de nido en comuna se ha propuesto como una condición protectora. Además, el estrés crónico durante la infancia aumenta la vulnerabilidad a desarrollar trastornos por uso de sustancias, principalmente durante la adolescencia. Por ello, los estados depresivos están asociados con una mayor vulnerabilidad para el uso de drogas puesto que los pacientes depresivos podrían consumir drogas para aliviar sus síntomas. Nuestros resultados demuestran que las experiencias adversas durante la infancia reproducen la mayoría de las alteraciones comportamentales y neuroquímicas relacionadas con depresión en el ratón. Además, la separación maternal puede considerarse como un modelo conveniente para el estudio de la comorbilidad psiquiátrica entre depresión y el trastorno por uso de drogas, ya que reproduce alteraciones emocionales y motivacionales en el animal de experimentación, así como en el sistema dopaminérgico. Sin embargo, no podemos confirmar el papel protector del nido en comuna debido a las alteraciones comportamentales que hemos encontrado en nuestros estudios, probablemente debido a que dicho modelo origina costes energéticos y aumenta la competencia por la comida entre las crías.
