Full textNumbers with missing digits and palindromic numbers (with respect to a fixed basis) are subset of the integers. This subsets are defined by digital conditions and are scattered. We study if this sets have multiplicative properties similar to those of the integers. Firstly, we evaluate the high moments of the generating series of numbers with missing digits. As a application, we show that there is a 0 < c < 1 such that for all integer k, the integers n with missing digits which have a factor p^k with p^k~n^c and p a prime, are innumerable. Moreover the number of such integers has the expected size. Secondly, we establish a result of sieve where the modules with an abnormally large number of divisors are expelled of the error term. We deduce consequently the existence of a positive proportion of numbers with missing digits which have no large prime factors. Thirdly, using elementary methods, we show how to reduce the study of the generating series of the palindromes to a series close to that of the numbers with missing digits. This makes possible to study their repartition in the arithmetical progressions and thus to obtain an upper bound for the palindromic primes. We deduce in particular that the palindromes with at most 372 prime factors in basis 10 are endless

Full textThis thesis presents some constructions of pseudo-random sequences inspired by natural questions in number theory. We use two measures introduced by A. Sárközy et C. Mauduit to discuss some aspects of a priori testing of these sequences. They are the well-distribution measure and correlation measure of order k. On the one hand, thanks to a work of A. Weil, some Dirichlet characters give a large family of interesting examples of constructions. On the other hand, our study on a construction based on the distribution of the greatest prime factors do not supply any sufficiently exploitable estimate. However, we observe the bias on some congruence classes of prime factors. We also discuss some probability aspects of both measures. A brief history on the randomness is presented to help better comprehension, as well as some subjects in cryptology which are given in an appendix

Full textThis work delineates the three main stages in the history of the attempts to define natural integers from Frege to Quine. The first defining paradigm, revolving around the infinity axiom, appears around 1880 in Frege's, Peano's and Dedekind's writings. With the emergence of paradoxes, and until 1912, a period of philosophical and mathematical debates goes on between Hilbert, Poincaré and Russel. These debates focus on the status of complete induction and umpredicativity. Then, with Zermelo, a second paradigm appears. It shifts the problem towards the characterization of finite sets, and several rival versions of such a characterization are provided from Tarski to Quine. Finally, this historical process is re-examined from the perspective of the philosophy of mathematics and of contemporary research in numerical cognition

Full textThis thesis addresses some questions related to the sum of digits function and friable integers. The first chapter is dedicated to an introduction that gathers the origins of the main topics covered in this thesis, as well as a background and the necessary notations for the rest of the work. The main results obtained during this research will also be presented. The second chapter focuses on the behaviour of the set ({ n leq x : n ext{ is } k ext{-free}, , s_q(Q(n)) equiv a pmod{m} }), where ( a in mathbb{Z} ), ( k ), and ( m ) are natural numbers greater than or equal to 2. The function ( s_q ) represents the sum of digits in base ( q ), ( k )-free integers are those not divisible by the ( k )-th power of a prime number, and ( Q ) is a polynomial of degree greater than or equal to 2. To show our main result, we evaluate exponential sums of the type(sum_{n leq x atop{ n ext{ is } k ext{-free}}} e(alpha s_q(Q(n)))), where ( alpha ) is a real number such that ((q - 1)alpha in mathbb{R} setminus mathbb{Z}). In the end, we establish an equidistribution result modulo 1. The third chapter, we focus on the distribution of the Zeckendorf sum of digits over friable integers in congruence classes. An integer is called ( y )-friable if all its prime factors are less than or equal to ( y ). We use the notation ( P(n) ) to denote the largest prime factor of ( n ), and ( S(x, y) := { n leq x : P(n) leq y } ) to denote the set of ( y )-friable integers less than or equal to ( x ). The main objective of this chapter is to evaluate the set ( { n in S(x, y) : s_varphi(n) equiv a pmod{m} } ), where ( a in mathbb{Z} ) and ( m ) is a natural number greater than or equal to 2. Here, ( s_varphi ) is the sum of digits function in the Fibonacci base. As in the second chapter, to prove the main result, we use exponential sums, and we utilize the property of decomposition of friable integers into intervals for our demonstration to evaluate the exponential sum(sum_{n in S(x, y)} e(vartheta s_varphi(n))), where ( vartheta in mathbb{R} setminus mathbb{Z} ). The fourth chapter deals with the average of sums of certain multiplicative functions over friable integers. In this chapter, our goal is to determine estimates for the following expressions: sigma_s(n) = sum_{d mid n} d^s, varphi(n) = sum_{d mid n} mu(d) n/d, and psi(n) = sum_{d mid n} mu^2(n/d) d, where ( s ) is a non-zero real number, when (n) runs over the set (S(x,y)). The last chapter presents an application of the Turán-Kubilius inequality. It is well known that this inequality deals with additive functions and has also been used to prove the Hardy-Ramanujan theorem for the additive function (omega(n)), which counts the prime divisors of the integer (n). In this chapter, we move into the space of friable integers and focus on the additive function ilde{omega}(n) = sum_{p mid n atop{s_q(p) equiv a pmod{b}}} 1, where ( a in mathbb{Z} ) and ( b geq 2 ) are integers. Firstly, we provide an estimate of ( ilde{omega}(n)) when (n) runs through the set (S(x,y)), we then use the Turán-Kubilius inequality in the space of friable integers established by Tenenbaum and de la Bretèche to present few applications

Full textThis dissertation is devoted to studying three problems, all linked to estimates for sums of multiplicative functions over friable integers. An integer n is called y-friable if its largest prime factor P(n) does not exceed y. In a first part, we consider a random multiplicative function in the sense of Wintner, i.e. a multiplicative arithmetic function f supported on squarefree integers and such that, for each prime p, f(p) is a Bernoulli random variable taking each value +1 and -1 with probability 1/2. Elaborating on previous works by Wintner, Erdös, Halasz, Lau, Tenenbaum and Wu, we investigate upper bounds for the summatory function of f over y-friable integers not exceeding x. In the second part, we provide asymptotic estimates for sums of certain multiplicative functions, including Euler's totient, over shifted friable integers. This study depends on the distribution of friable integers in arithmetic progressions. In the third part, we consider a friable extension of the Arcsine law for the mean distribution of the divisors of integers. The original study is due to Deshouillers, Dress and Tenenbaum (1979). We describe the limit law in terms of the Dickman functions and we show that, as the friability parameter u = (log x)/log y increases, the mean distribution drifts from the Arcsine law towards a Gaussian behaviour

Full textThe 3D numerical model which we developed in this thesis presents two main features: a Low-Mach-Number approximation for water along with an open boundary condition formulation. Indeed, the difficulties related to the former point stand in a computationally efficient adaptation of the water equation of state in the framework of Low Mach number approximation, whereas the difficulties related to the latter concern the introduction of Open Boundary Conditions in the projection algorithm used. We have computed a mixed convection flow in a horizontal channel uniformly heated from below and compared the results obtained with both the Boussinesq approximation and experimental results

Full textThe influence of radiative transfer on natural convection flows in cavities is studied numerically in turbulent regimes. The study considers DNS and LES approaches for the convection problem and discrete ordinate method (MOD) to solve the radiative problem combined with the SLW real gas model. The studied configuration is based on an experimental differentially heated cavity in air located at the Pprime Institut with a vertical aspect ratio of 4, for Rayleigh numbers ranging from 1,5x109 to 1,2x1011. The first part of the study focuses on hybrid MPI + OpenMP parallelization of the DOM. The methods developed show performance improvements of 13 to 1600% compared to the classical wavefront method. Then, a study of convection-wall radiation coupling is achieved through a flow sensitivity study to walls emissivities for different values of the Rayleigh number. Then, the gas radiation is added, and its impact is measured through a variation of the relative humidity of the dry air + steam. The results are compared to the case of a convectively adiabatic cavity (i.e. zero convective flux at the passive walls). Radiative transfers have the effect of reducing the central thermal stratification and increase the overall dynamics of the flow. The emissivity of the passive walls drives the location of the laminar-turbulent transition on the active walls and the central thermal stratification, while the gas radiation seems to impact the boundary layers of the horizontal walls

Full textThis work deals with the study of internal structure of acyclic automaton. Thus, we propose an algorithm to compute all subautomata of a given automaton. This study can be used in applications whose aim is to decompose a very large FSA into smaller ones, to discover frequently occurring data and to reduce memory consumption. The second part of our work is devoted to the application of our algorithm for compression and indexing of automata that represent electronic dictionaries. Also, we propose a compression algorithm to reduce the memory required to store the automata and to preserve an effective access to data. The main propositions are, on the one hand, the application of the direct acyclic word graph, initially dedicated for indexing text, to index the subautomata, and, on the other hand, heuristic to select the most interesting substructure to factorize. The best candidates to factorize must increase memory storage efficiency and reduce the size of the initial automaton

Full textA new turbulence model dedicated to buoyant flows is developped using the differentiallyheated vertical plane channel flow configuration as test case. For each convection regime, the examination of available DNS databases pointed out the failure of classical modeling topredict buoyant flows. Neither the coupling between thermics and dynamics nor the anisotropy, both due to the buoyancy, are considered by these models. So, algebraic models are used. Theweak equilibrium assumption is validated in a large part of the channel except in the wall regionand close to zero velocity gradient whatever the convection regime. The wall and homogeneousmodels for the pressure terms are investigated and selected. Then, an EARSM and an EAHFMare developped to include the buoyant terms. These models both include wall treatments. Theyare coupled with a model modified to improve the representation of the turbulentkinetic energy maximum close to the wall. The complete model is finally compared to theDNS on the channel flow configuration for all convection regime thanks to a priori tests andcomplete computations, showing encouraging results and better predictions than classical models

Full textMy work’s object is the study of the idea of system which is practised by Plotinus and the kind of henological determination implied by this idea. In that perspective, my researches are shared out in three mains subjects :firstly, the function of the indetermination in the constitution of being’s system ;second, the number as expression of the determination of reality ;third, the presence of the external indetermination inside the being’s system. My researches show the existence of a system’s permeability with regard to the double indetermination which surrounds it, namely those of the One and of the ultimate Matter. This permeability ensure a vitality to the system, vitality of which the double movement of procession and conversion testifies.

Popescu, Elena-Roxana. "Numerical simulation of the interaction between an external flow, laminar or turbulent, and liquid/vapor phase change." Thesis, Toulouse, INPT, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019INPT0058.
Full textIn a launcher tank, the cryogenic fuel can suffer a liquid/vapor phase change due to a thermal gradient induced by solar radiation or by engines residual thermal diffusion. The quantity of vapor released by the phase change process can highly increase the internal pressure. Due to a poor knowledge of these phenomena, at present, the operations led to regulate the internal pressure induce fuel loss. It is therefore of great importance to investigate the liquid/vapor phase and the physical processes taking place at the interface. This is the context of the present thesis, thattakes place in an effort to extract better understanding of the above underlined phenomena by means of Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS). The work is split into three studies : the interaction between a liquid pool at saturation and an external flow of subcooled or superheated vapor, both in laminar and turbulent regime flows, and the interaction between natural convection mouvements and liquid/vapor phase change. Firstly, the laminar regime flow is investigated. In this framework, a parametric study is conducted with the objective of finding behaviour laws for the heat transfer and the friction coefficient at the interface between a static liquid pool at saturation temperature and a laminar boundary layer flow of vapor. Both vaporization and condensation are studied. The second project was on the numerical simulation of a turbulent boundary layer flow of superheated vapor interacting with the velocity field induced by vaporization. To this extent, a turbulent fluctuations injector is implemented and validated for the spatial development of a boundary layer flow over a flat plate with heat transfer. A study on the influence of the velocity field induced by vaporization on the Nusselt number, the friction coefficient, the Stanton number and the turbulent quantities is conducted. Finally, we lead a preliminary numerical study on a configuration describing the interaction between natural convection flow and liquid/vapor phase change in a cryogenic tank. A new solver is implemented in the in house code to account for the density variations in the liquid. Preliminary results are obtained on the influence of the Grashof number on the thermal flux at the liquid/vapor interface

Full textThe rate of pyrolysis of a fire-exposed solid fuel is a key parameter to evaluate the intensity of fire and its effects on surroundings. The present study is experimental, theoretical and numerical. It focuses on the determination of the steady-state pyrolysis rate of a vertical slab of PMMA. An original experimental set-up is thus developed along with a specific procedure in order to locate the regressing surface of the solid material. A theoretical approach which is based on the reactive laminar boundary layer theory (LBL) assumptions and a numerical two-dimensional CFD model are used. Experimental results show that a three-dimensional behavior appears for small slab widths. In the laminar part of the flow, near to the leading edge, experimental and numerical results reveal a decreasing power-law of the pyrolysis rate, in agreement with the LBL theory. Radiative and convective effects that are not taken into account by the theory are responsible for discrepancies on scaling laws. The assumptions of the LBL theory are discussed. It is found that for free flows the pyrolysis rate is inversely proportional to the normal gradient of the gas velocity at the fuel surface. A transient pyrolysis model based on the mass transfer number is proposed, avoiding the calculation of the thermal and flow fields of the gas phase

Full textThis thesis aims to extract a sample of texts used as a training population for a markov process. This latter model is applied for a part-of-speech (pos) tagging. We adopted a stratification sampling. We set up a software called "multivariatesampling" which extracts a sample from a stratified and ambiguous corpus minimizing "the loss of information" in a certain sense, the results obtained are very satisfying since we improved the number of parts of speech tagged correctly. The case of vague and uncertain variables are also treated we evaluated the conditional probability of a sentence to check simultaneously a certain number of criteria given their probabilities separately. This probability is not unique whatever topologies used. The li isometries show us that it is impossible to obtain a unique solution to this problem. A unique solution constraints the "true" and "false" representation to be the same. It appeared that one has to distinguish the "true" associated to a logical formula from "the certain event" known in the probability theory finally, we proposed a new markov model capable to take into account he context associated to a pos

Full textThe present work is a contribution to the understanding of the mechanisms of combined heat and mass transfers in natural convection during the evaporation of a liquid film with negligible thickness in a wavy vertical channel. The flow is laminar and two-dimensional. The equations governing the phenomenon are resolved using the finite volumes method and the treatment of the coupling between velocity and pressure is carried out by the projection method. The influences of the heat flux density, the temperature and the humidity of the inlet air and the shape of the channel wall on the transfers are studied. The results are presented in the form of cstreamlines, isotherms and iso-concentrations.The numerical simulations carried out have allowed the detailed study of the flow structure as well as the thermal and mass fields. We also represent the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers
