Although Accord+Escort applied in a cut/spray treatment resulted in the lowest population of trees after two years, this treatment also had the most persistent negative effect on non-target ground cover. Krenite had the least negative impact on ground-cover. Spraying sooner rather than later after cutting improves treekill b

From its inception the GATT had guided international trade most successfully until the early 1970s. However, afterwards the developed countries (DCs) increasingly recurred to new forms of trade restrictions not covered by the GATT rules. These measures constrained international trade exactly at the time when the LDCs started penetrating developed markets. One of the main objectives of the Uruguay Round (UR) accord was to restrict the surge of protectionism. The accord was the most ambitious and detailed

Abstract UNS A95052 (AA 5052) results very attractive for desalination applications due to its good corrosion resistance in seawater at temperatures up to 125°C, low cost, good thermal conductivity, and non-toxic corrosion products. The pitting potential, Epit, and the pit repassivation potential, Er, pit, of AA 5052 were measured in deaerated 65,000 ppm sodium chloride solutions at 30, 60 and 85°C. Pitting potential decreased with temperature, in accord with literature results. Er, pit was a function of anodic charge passed during pit growth stage. A complete evaluation of suitability of this

Modern methods for axial compressor design are capable of shaping the blade surfaces in a three dimensional way. Linking these methods with automated optimization techniques provides a major benefit to the design process. The application of non-axisymmetric contoured endwalls is considered to be very successful in turbine rotors and vanes. Concerning axial compressors non-axisymmetric endwalls are still a field of research. This two-part paper presents the recent development of a novel endwall design. An aerodynamic separator, generated by a non-axisymmetric endwall groove, interacts with the

Droplet particle erosion easily causes hazardous medium leakages, even leading to fire and explosion phenomena and economic losses. A droplet-particle erosion phenomenon happened in connecting pipe between the static mixer and the silicon tetrachloride evaporator of the polycrystalline silicon production unit. Nine Large Eddy Simulation (LES) methods are used to simulate flow through two labyrinth seal geometries and are compared with a wide range of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solutions. These involve one-equation, two-equation and Reynolds Stress RANS models. Also applied are linear and nonlinear pure LES models, hybrid RANS-Numerical-LES (RANS-NLES) and Numerical-LES (NLES). RANS is found to have a maximum error and a scatter of 20%. A similar level of scatter is also found among the same turbulence model implemented in different codes. In a design context, this makes RANS unusable as

The present paper investigates the predictive attitude of three non conventional turbulence closures in simulating the physics pertinent to decelerating turbomachinery flows. The performance of a cubic k-ε model and an algebraic Reynolds stress model adopting a non-linear link between turbulence and velocity gradients have been exploited with reference to their capabilities in predicting anisotropy effects and the sensibility to streamlines curvature. In addition, a modification of the kinetic energy production term in standard isotropic model has been also tested, in accord with Kato and Laun
