Temperatures of the northern wall, ceiling and floor of a 2 × 12 milking house as well as of a waiting area in front of the milking house were measured for 24 hours a day in the winter season with an average external daily temperature of –8.6°C. The influence of low external temperatures on the temperatures of cows’ mammary glands was measured with a non-contact thermometer RAYNGER ST 6 equipped with laser. The analysis showed that the low external temperatures and insufficiently warmed external walls [average 24-hour temperatures: (t<

This paper reviews current approaches to the registration of the electrocardiogram for a long period. A review of existing solutions based on contact adhesive and fabric electrodes and non-contact ones is carried out. The last type of electrodes is offered as an optimal solution. The fundamental principle of operation of the new electrodes is fixing the capacitance parameters, in contrast to the classical voltage registration. The ability to operate through a tissue, thereby providing a suitable level of comfort for long-term utilizing of these electrodes is advantage in comparison with the co

Abstract The Multifactorial Prediction and Deviation Analysis (MuPDAR) method (Gries & Deshors 2014) represents an influential methodological advance in studying variation in contexts where linguistic choices in a “peripheral” variety (learner language, New Englishes) are studied in relation to the “central” variety. In this article we demonstrate how the method may be extended to study how varieties produced in settings of language contact (including translation) differ from non-contact varieties, particularly with respect to the degree of lexicogrammatical explicitness. The paper deals with the detection of “idle milking” times for individual quarters of the udder in a group of dairy cows (randomly selected) in a parallel 2 × 12 milking parlour. A non-contact laser thermometer Raynger ST-6 was used to measure temperatures of the inner surfaces of liners instantly after milking. In a group of 12 dairy cows, the minimum liner temperature after milking was 15.3°C, the maximum temperature was 28.9°C. It follows from the regression correlation that an increase in the cooling time by 1 second decreases

Leidenfrost phenomenon has been studied extensively for its role in applications ranging from nuclear reactor cooling, to metals manufacturing, combustion, and other fields. Herein, Leidenfrost phenomenon is pursued towards non-contact distillation processes with hopes of reducing or even eliminating contaminant fouling. In particular, the microgravity environment of a drop tower is exploited to demonstrate the facility with which droplets achieve and sustain the Leidenfrost state. Dynamic Leidenfrost impacts in microgravity are presented for impacts on hydrophilic and superhydrophobic planar

Abstract:
This thesis describes the development of a non-contact inspection system, used in providing a comparative method for gauging a surface. The purpose of this system is not to measure the 3-D shape of a part. The volume difference between the part to be inspected and a master, is merely part of the decision criteria, where if this difference exceeds a certain threshold value, then the component under inspection is deemed to have failed. The technique involves a combination of fringe projection and image subtraction. The system comprises two sub-systems, a low-cost pc based image processor and a w

This thesis explores and investigates the feasibility of a non-contact photoplethysmography system operating in both transmission and reflection modes. Several issues are addressed in the implementation of the non-contact system, including the dynamic range of PPG signals, ambient artefacts and effects of direct coupling, which is light that is detected without any interaction with the measured tissue area. Plethysmography has been used in a range of biomedical applications to study blood volume changes. All current applications employ contact probes, where the transducers are positioned direc

Accurate determination of surface texture is essential for the manufacturing of mechanical components within design specifications in engineering and materials science disciplines. It is also required for any subsequent modifications to physical properties and functional aspects of the object. A number of methods are available to characterize any surface through the measurement of roughness parameters that can then be used to describe surface texture. These methods may be divided into those in that direct contact is made with the surface and those where such contact is not required. This repor
